Chapter 2 : Kyle Ragnar (1)
Pramo, who had been preparing for the final battle atop the fortress wall, fixed his dazed gaze on Kyle, who was spewing white flas.
There was no mistaking it.
Having white hair was proof of Ragnar blood.
No people on the continent possessed white hair.
Of course, there were many cases where hair turned white with age, but it was extrely rare for soone young to have white hair.
On the continent, the only bloodline that bore white hair was Ragnar.
‘You have returned, Brother…….’
At the mont he thought his life was at its end, the one he had been waiting for appeared like a savior.
At Kyle’s return, Pramo’s body trembled faintly, and in the anti, the Commander of the Ragnar Knight Order hurried up onto the wall.
“L, Lord Head! Am I seeing this correctly?”
The Knight Commander stamred, unable to believe the absurd sight before him.
At the faintly trembling voice of the Knight Commander, Pramo nodded.
That was right.
Those white flas were unmistakably the Frostfire Swordsmanship of the founding Head of the Family who had established the Ragnar Family. And the one who had learned it was his own elder brother who had left the family.
A man who lightly cut down the Orcs attacking from all sides.
It was slaughter in the truest sense of the word.
Pramo, who had been watching the scene in a daze, ca to his senses and looked at the Knight Commander.
“Commander, Ragnar’s guardian deity has returned.”
Clenching both fists tightly, Pramo smiled through his tears.
At that, the Knight Commander nodded strongly.
“Just being able to see that man stand on this land again leaves
with no regrets.”
Even the Previous Head of the Family, who had lost his life four years ago, had hoped only for Kyle’s return as he lay dying.
Leaving behind last words that he would have no regrets if he could see Kyle’s face one more ti, he ultimately died in battle.
Though not alive, the wish of the Previous Head of the Family, who had asked him to return once more, was fulfilled.
From the end of all battles to the sight of him walking toward the wall while dragging the bisected giant Orc, it was perfect.
“Open the gate!”
At the sight of Kyle approaching, Pramo issued orders to the knights.
As he quickly went down beneath the wall, Pan followed after him.
Arriving in front of the gate with Pramo, Pan issued a quiet command to the knights.
“I will go out. Open the gate.”
“My Lord! They are foreigners whose identities we do not know. It could be dangerous…….”
So much had changed over fifteen years that most of the knights did not recognize Kyle’s face.
Most of those who knew Kyle’s face were dead, and the only ones who could recognize him were Pramo and a few knights.
Despite the knights’ objections, Pan ran straight toward the pulley that could open the gate.
“C, Commander!”
Kiiiiiik—
Pan opened the gate with all his strength.
Soon, the gate opened wide, and Pramo slowly walked toward Kyle.
“……Pramo.”
The younger brother had grown into a man and now stood before Kyle.
In a voice filled with a complex mix of emotions, Pramo spoke with a stiff expression.
“……I will not ask for details. Are you truly my elder brother?”
At Pramo’s question, Kyle revealed a faint smile and nodded.
“It has been fifteen years.”
“Do you know how long I waited for you?! Do you know how much Father searched for you when he passed away…… do you know?”
Pramo made a choking expression, as if he were about to burst into tears at any mont.
An elder brother who had left no news for fifteen years.
Everyone had judged that he was dead.
“……I’m sorry. I ca far too late.”
Pramo stepped forward and embraced Kyle tightly as he wore a bitter smile.
Kyle released his grip on the giant Orc’s head and patted Pramo on the back.
After holding each other for a long while, the brothers looked at each other’s faces once more.
“Just the fact that you returned alive is more than enough. But…….”
Stopping mid-sentence, Pramo turned his gaze to the giant Orc’s head lying on the ground.
“……You really butchered an expensive mutant Orc.”
He had expected an emotional reunion, but Pramo smacked his lips with a regretful expression.
“……Were you serious?”
“The Territory’s finances are at rock bottom right now. We have to pay attention to monster byproducts that can be sold for a high price.”
Kyle erased his flustered expression and let out a small laugh.
Pramo’s reaction was unexpected, but it wasn’t bad.
Kyle stared at his younger brother’s face for a while, then continued speaking calmly.
“You grew well. Yes, that is enough.”
“……Brother.”
Pramo clasped the hand Kyle extended with both of his own.
Talent : Territory Managent S-rank
Potential : National Administration SS-rank
Unawakened Abilities : King’s Dignity S-rank, Ruler’s Bearing S-rank
The mont he held Pramo’s hand, Kyle could see the talents he possessed and the abilities he would develop in the future.
The reason Kyle Ragnar had left the family.
It was because of the family’s policy of strictly adhering to the principle of eldest-son succession.
‘Rather than , Pramo suited the position of Head of the Family better. That was all.’
He looked proudly at the younger brother who must have grown through bone-grinding effort.
With Pramo’s current abilities, he would not be lacking even if he were imdiately entrusted with the position of a nation’s chief minister.
“Even if I have returned, the Head of the Ragnar Family is you.”
Kyle drove the point ho.
It was also an admonition not to relinquish the position of Head of the Family, but to continue carrying it forward as it was.
“Brother…….”
“I will say it again. The Head of the Ragnar Family is you. Now, and in the future as well.”
Kyle smiled lightly and placed his hand atop Pramo’s head.
While the brothers were sharing their feelings, a wobbling middle-aged man ca running out from the inner castle.
“Pramo! What in the world is going on here?!”
Pramo was the Head of the Ragnar Family.
Considering that position, no one was allowed to speak to Pramo informally.
However, the fat middle-aged man very naturally called Pramo by na and spoke down to him.
“Pramo, explain yourself.”
At Kyle’s cold voice, Pramo bowed his head.
“The elders still do not acknowledge .”
“Who survived?”
There were a total of four elders in the Ragnar Family.
Before Kyle left the family, the elders had followed Rai, the Head of the Family of that generation, without question.
But unlike the past, much had changed now.
“Only Elder Modello remains among those visible. The remaining elder positions were inherited by others.”
“So it wasn’t only the monsters that were ruining the Territory.”
Losing the Iron Mine to monsters had certainly been a heavy blow, but that alone had not driven Ragnar to the brink of collapse.
Pramo spoke while looking at Elder Modello, who could be called the root cause of it all.
“Brother, now is the ti to endure.”
“And the reason?”
“Because the Territory’s people are supporting the elders’ side.”
Despite Pramo’s explanation, Kyle wore an expression that said he could not understand.
“Pramo! How dare you not answer when I speak to you?”
How dare……
The mont he heard that word, the light in Kyle’s eyes changed.
Kyle brushed aside the hand Pramo had on his arm and walked forward.
Seeing Kyle approaching, Modello shouted angrily.
“Who are you?!”
“I’ll ask just one thing. Why are you not using honorifics toward the Head of the Ragnar Family?”
“Hmph! You look like an outsider, so do not ddle in the Ragnar Family’s affairs. That one is not the family’s eldest son.”
Even if he was not the eldest son, the current Head of the Family was Pramo.
And any mber belonging to the family was supposed to follow the Head of the Family’s will.
In the first place, Kyle himself had left the family precisely because he was only talented at swinging a sword, while Pramo was different.
‘My younger brother possesses the prayer of a king. He is a talent who can change Ragnar.’
Although Kyle had inherited the Frostfire, he lacked the ability to properly develop the Territory.
His one outstanding strength lay in recognizing talent and raising knights.
But that alone was not enough to beco a great Head of the Family.
Kyle looked at Modello with icy eyes.
“Elder Modello, have you been waiting for Kyle Ragnar, who went missing fifteen years ago?”
“Of course! The only one our elders can acknowledge is Kyle Ragnar, and no one—!”
Elder Modello, who had been raising his voice, trailed off as he noticed Kyle’s hair and eye color.
A man who possessed every defining trait exclusive to the bloodline of the Ragnar Family.
That man looked down at Elder Modello and opened his mouth.
“Pramo Ragnar, listen.”
At Kyle’s solemn voice, Pramo bowed his head.
“Father passed the position of Head of the Family not to , but to you. Defying his will must never happen. Therefore, the Head of the Ragnar Family is you.”
Though he had already driven that point ho once before, Kyle stated it again.
It was a demand that since he, Kyle Ragnar, acknowledged Pramo as Head of the Family, the family mbers must do the sa.
Flustered by Kyle’s declaration, Modello stamred as he rebelled.
“The position of Head of the Family is noble and full of dignity. This is not sothing to be decided so abruptly!”
Pramo stepped forward and spoke firmly.
“There is no need for the elders’ council’s recognition.”
“Y-You……!”
Enraged at Pramo, Modello turned his gaze toward the knights behind him.
“What are you all doing, Ragnar Knight Order! The eldest young master who went missing fifteen years ago could not possibly have returned alive! Arrest that man who dares to impersonate the eldest young master’s na!”
A group that was practically the symbol of the Ragnar Family.
And the one who led them was Pan.
However, Pan rely observed the situation and did not follow Modello’s command.
Watching this quietly, Kyle sneered at Modello, who was making such an absurd argunt.
“So in the end, you refuse to acknowledge it, is that what you’re saying?”
“That’s right. Kyle Ragnar is dead!”
“By your claims so far, you said you could not acknowledge Pramo as Head of the Family because I had not returned. But now you say I am dead. Then shouldn’t you acknowledge Pramo? There seems to be a contradiction in your argunt.”
“……I admit that there is a contradiction in my claim. The elders’ council will acknowledge Pramo Ragnar as Head of the Family! So subdue the impostor who is tarnishing the honor of the deceased eldest young master at once!”
Pramo closed his eyes at the sight of Modello showing such ugliness to the very end.
Once again, the Ragnar Knight Order did not follow Modello’s command.
‘Ha…… for soone who calls himself the Chief Elder…….’
By his own words, he should have been following the command of the Head of the Family—himself—yet Modello, flustered, was spewing nonsense, which looked pitiful.
Shaking his head, Pramo walked up to Modello and looked at him steadily.
With a twisted expression, Modello pointed at Kyle.
“Did you not say you would acknowledge him as Head of the Family? Then deal with that fake at once—!”
“Shut up.”
At Pramo’s harsh words, Modello ground his teeth.
But since he had already acknowledged him as Head of the Family, he had no choice but to accept even that.
“……Head of the Family!”
“You said it was the Sinoah rchant Guild, didn’t you? Did you think I wouldn’t know that you joined hands with a slave rchant guild to swallow the Ragnar Territory?”
Pramo had been carefully gathering evidence of what Modello and the elders’ council were preparing.
However, since he had yet to grasp the true nature of the place called the Sinoah rchant Guild, he had intended to keep Modello alive and use him as bait.
But now that Kyle had returned, even that seed aningless.
Judging by his montum, it would not have been strange for him to cut off Modello’s head on the spot.
‘I cannot show my brother, who returned after fifteen years, such a pathetic state.’
Having decided to strike down Modello and the elders’ council, Pramo drew his sword and aid it at him.
“Ragnar Knight Order, listen!”
At Pramo’s shout, Pan and the knights belonging to the Ragnar Knight Order bowed their heads simultaneously.
“Including the traitor Modello, execute the remaining elders imdiately on the spot!”
Internal family matters were sothing that Pramo himself, as Head of the Family, had to resolve.
Kyle was rely the eldest young master of the Ragnar Family—nothing more, nothing less.
In the end, all decisions had to be made by the Head of the Family, and under his leadership, the Territory had to be stabilized.
Watching Pramo’s decisiveness, Kyle showed a relieved expression.
‘It’s a relief he hasn’t grown timid.’
He liked the way Pramo dealt with Modello.
Still, with the current strength of the Ragnar Territory, it seed unlikely they could handle everything.
Sensing killing intent drifting from all around the inner castle, Kyle opened the mouth he had kept tightly shut.
“They reek of an intense stench of blood.”
