Chapter 102: What Happened at the Coronation Ceremony (1)
The Northern Army that had seized the Royal Palace moved busily.
They did not return to the North and instead remained in the Capital City, focusing all their attention on preparing Pramo’s Coronation Ceremony.
“Your ceremonial robes are ready.”
“You’ve worked hard, Elise.”
“I can’t tell you how fortunate I feel to personally prepare my brother-in-law’s ceremonial robes.”
The maids brought the ceremonial robes Elise had personally designed and bowed their heads respectfully.
“It seems I won’t be able to call you by your na so freely anymore.”
Once the Coronation Ceremony scheduled for tomorrow ended, Elise would beco the woman who would serve as queen of this nation.
He had always called her na comfortably until now, but once the ceremony ended, he would no longer be able to do that.
It felt unfortunate, and also worrying.
Becoming the king and queen of a nation ant that the responsibilities they had to bear would increase just as much.
Kyle revealed a trace of apology toward his younger brother and sister-in-law, who would have to live with that heavy responsibility.
After noticing his gaze, Elise responded with a pure smile.
“I’ll do well, brother-in-law.”
“You must. Don’t worry. I will support you so that you and Pramo can lead the state affairs excellently.”
From the perspective of the maids who rembered the cold look in Kyle’s eyes when he seized the Royal Palace, the sight of him looking at Elise with warm eyes felt unfamiliar.
Even now, the maids stood stiffly as if they were frightened.
When Kyle rose from his chair, Elise personally took the ceremonial robe from the maid’s hands.
“May I help you put it on?”
“……Very well.”
She would beco the most noble woman of the new kingdom, but she had no intention of displaying authority even toward Kyle.
The man who made it possible for her to reach this place.
After Rai’s death, he was the only man whom Pramo and Elise could still call family.
After carefully helping Kyle put on the ceremonial robe, Elise admired his appearance.
“The clothes rely complent you.”
Kyle examined the way the robe fit him and let out a small exclamation.
“Excellent. You designed this yourself?”
“Yes. Many people helped.”
“With this much skill, you won’t be outdone by any noble ladies or ladies of the house anywhere.”
After putting on and removing the ceremonial robe, Kyle turned his gaze toward the maids.
“Could you leave us for a mont?”
At Kyle’s request, the maids bowed politely and left the room.
Then Elise neatly hung the ceremonial robe on a hanger and sat down in front of Kyle.
“No one knows what may happen tomorrow.”
“I know. The Kingdom of Daon was ranked at the very bottom among the Seven Kingdoms. The envoys who co may look down on the new royal family.”
“There is no need to worry about their gazes. I will stand in front of you and Pramo.”
“Yes. I won’t shrink back from their stares.”
Kyle nodded after seeing the bold and confident look in Elise’s eyes.
At that sight, Elise ford a faint smile.
“Oh, and the preparations to officially announce the Great General’s new status are complete. Supre Commander of the North. Your title will be Duke.”
“That is sufficient.”
“Since this is a kingdom, we cannot grant the title of Grand Duke, but we’re planning things so that the North you govern can operate independently.”
“That matter will be handled by Aron or Viscount Rak.”
Titles and status did not matter to him.
What mattered now was tomorrow’s Coronation Ceremony.
“Seros will not be able to attend. Just in case, you should know that as well, Elise.”
Unfortunately, Seros’s face was far too famous.
Soone among the envoy delegations from the various kingdoms would surely recognize him.
For that reason, it had already been decided that the entire Special Operations Unit would not participate in the Coronation Ceremony.
“Brother-in-law, do you still intend not to tell us where you were for the past fifteen years?”
“……I will tell you when the ti cos.”
There were too many problems in revealing that he had lived as Ian Kailers for fifteen years and acted as the Strongest Sword of the Empire.
It was partly to protect the safety of the two of them, but also because he did not want to burden Pramo and Elise while many different forces were intertwined.
“……Alright.”
“Do not feel too disappointed.”
“I believe there must be a reason you didn’t tell us, brother-in-law. I’ll wait, so please tell
when the ti cos.”
Kyle nodded at Elise’s words and took out a small box from inside his clothes.
“This is……?”
“As Pramo’s older brother, I could not even attend your wedding ceremony. And it is unlikely our late father could have given you a wedding gift.”
With the family’s finances in their worst state, it was obvious they could not give Elise any wedding gift.
So even if it was a bit late, Kyle wanted to give her sothing he had prepared himself.
“……”
Elise carefully opened the lid of the small box Kyle handed her.
A pair of earrings.
They were beautiful pieces of craftsmanship embedded with blue and red gemstones.
“They are earrings enchanted with magic. One contains a defensive spell, and the other contains a teleportation spell. The defensive spell can be used once a day, and the teleportation spell once a month.”
“Sothing this precious…….”
“Would it not be shaful if I could not do at least this much for you, who endured difficult tis beside my younger brother?”
As Elise gently caressed the earrings Kyle had given her, her eyes beca moist.
He was the benefactor who had placed a sword in the hands of an orphan who had no family and had even given her a chance to work as a maid despite being an outsider.
“I think I have already been more than rewarded simply by your return, brother-in-law.”
“Just think of it as a gift congratulating you on becoming queen.”
“……I will treasure it.”
“These items will protect you soday.”
After giving Elise the gift, Kyle stood up.
“I will go see Pramo. You should also rest today in preparation for tomorrow’s ceremony.”
“Yes, I will.”
Kyle left the room with Elise, and after parting ways with her, he strode toward the king’s private study where Pramo was.
Akun, who stood guard in front of Pramo’s study, noticed Kyle and bowed his head.
“May I enter?”
“I will inform His Highness.”
Kyle nodded at Akun’s words.
“Your Highness, the Great General has arrived.”
Bang!
Upon hearing Akun’s voice, Pramo flung open the door of the study.
“Brother.”
“The ceremony has not yet ended, so I will speak comfortably.”
“Please do.”
“Shall we walk for a mont?”
Pramo nodded at Kyle’s request.
He had been waiting eagerly for Kyle to co visit him.
When Pramo began to walk, Akun tried to follow, but Kyle lightly tapped his tense shoulder.
“Commander, there is no need to conduct such strict security.”
At Kyle’s words, Akun bowed his head.
After all, if Kyle was beside Pramo, there was no need to worry about safety.
Even so, he had to maintain security close to Pramo in case of unforeseen situations.
As the two brothers stepped outside, Akun followed behind them from a distance.
Walking through the Royal Palace at that pace, Kyle stopped when he saw the Great Hall.
“It will be a heavy and difficult seat.”
“I know. I am prepared.”
“Reality may be far harsher than you imagine.”
“……I have considered that as well.”
Seeing Pramo biting his lip tightly, Kyle looked up at the sky.
“Even if you beco king, you are still my younger brother.”
“What obvious words. More than becoming king, I am prouder to be your younger brother.”
“Then I must not lose, so that you can always remain proud.”
“Brother…….”
Masters would surely be included among the envoys from each kingdom.
The appearance of a new Master would inevitably raise the kingdoms’ vigilance.
Because of that, the Masters who ca as envoys might challenge Kyle to a duel to verify his ability.
“It will be on a completely different level from when you endured the pressure of the Kingdom of Daon.”
“……”
“You will have to give up many things. You may even have to abandon your peaceful life.”
Pramo smirked at Kyle’s warning.
A peaceful life?
He had never even dread of such a thing.
As a man of the Ragnar Family, he had always fought for survival and endured every harsh situation.
“I can endure it.”
“I am sorry.”
“This is the path I chose. I decided it partly for you, brother, but also for myself, and for the people who live in this country.”
Kyle nodded at Pramo’s resolute eyes.
Then he untied a sword hanging at his waist along with its scabbard.
“Originally, the sword symbolizing the royal family should be the treasured sword of the Ragnar Family, but I cannot hand that to you.”
“I understand.”
“Instead, this sword will symbolize the royal family.”
Kyle handed the sword to Pramo and smiled faintly.
It was a sword Iron had made from the scales of the Ice Dragon.
“This is……?”
“A sword the chieftain of the Dwarf Tribe forged from the Ice Dragon’s scales. He asked
to convey his congratulations on you becoming king. You should give the sword its na.”
“Thank you.”
After giving Elise a pair of earrings and Pramo a sword, Kyle took a deep breath.
The road ahead still seed endlessly long.
But as the saying went, beginning was half the task. Since they had already accomplished the Royal House Replacent, they had to do their best to establish the nation’s foundation.
“No matter what happens tomorrow, trust
and watch.”
“I will.”
“The na Kingdom of Daon will now disappear into history. The new nation, the Ragnar Kingdom, will rise as the new master of this land.”
---
The day before the Coronation Ceremony.
The Capital City of the Kingdom of Daon was filled with envoy delegations that had arrived from various countries.
Amid the countless crowds, a man standing proudly flashed his eyes.
“As expected.”
“That’s obvious. I can guess their intentions even with my eyes closed now.”
The man walking with his flowing golden hair swaying grinned.
At those words, the knight standing beside him shook his head.
“They’ll probably go back only after getting beaten nearly to death. Right, Seren?”
The woman who had complained that she hadn’t received an invitation.
Duke Seren Luna, with her long blue hair neatly tied back, smiled brightly.
“Perhaps they’ll be beaten right up until the mont before they die. Knowing his personality, he wouldn’t simply send back those who ca to ruin the ceremony.”
“I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
“I can’t hide my excitent either.”
The man conversing with Duke Luna—dressed in ordinary clothes as he entered the Capital City—was the highest authority of the Tylers Empire, known as the ruler of the continent.
“It’s a bit disappointing. Why did that fellow only send an invitation to Sir Kashin?”
“I know. It’s almost enough to make
jealous.”
“Hm, what do you think, Sir Kashin?”
As the fierce gazes of Emperor Adrian Tylers and Duke Luna poured down on him, Marquis Sein Kashin lowered his head deeply.
He was flustered.
He could not understand why Kyle had sent the invitation only to him.
What on earth the intention behind it was.
“It seems you don’t even want to answer His Majesty anymore.”
“It ans you were chosen. Well, if you’re the only one invited, you might as well show so pride.”
“Exactly.”
Marquis Kashin tightly shut his eyes.
He always felt this, but Duke Luna and Emperor Adrian got along far too well.
Whether it was teasing soone or smiling with fierce eyes.
Because of that, he had been tornted by the two of them throughout the entire journey to the Capital City.
While eating, while traveling—both of them glared at Kashin with jealousy-filled eyes and bullied him.
‘It’s not like I can lash out at my lord or my superior.’
Duke Luna was Marquis Kashin’s superior.
And Emperor Adrian was the monarch he served.
Therefore he had to endure any scolding steadfastly.
Only soone capable of enduring every kind of attack could survive in that position.
“Welco. We will check your invitation.”
As the envoys standing ahead entered one by one, a knight finally approached Marquis Kashin.
At the knight’s request, Marquis Kashin nodded and took out his invitation.
Then, after sensing the aura of the knight standing before him, he grinned.
“A promising talent.”
“Pardon?”
“No matter. Check the invitation first.”
The knight opened the invitation he handed over.
“You’ve co from the Tylers Empire. Marquis Sein Kashin……”
The shield and sword of the Tylers Imperial Family.
After confirming the identity of Marquis Kashin, one of the Masters among the Empire’s Six Masters, the knight’s eyes widened beyond what was acceptable.
“What is your na?”
“I-I am Deni of the Ragnar Knight Order.”
“It seems your level is at the very end of Exford Interdiate Level. Have you ever thought of becoming an Imperial Knight of the Tylers Empire?”
At Marquis Kashin’s offer, Deni froze with a blank expression.
A na every knight must know.
An offer of recruitnt had co from one of the Masters representing the Tylers Empire.
“I’m sorry. I am a knight belonging to the Ragnar Family.”
“Is that so? If status is the problem, don’t worry. If I use my influence, I can change sothing like that.”
It was clearly a refusal, but it did not stop Marquis Kashin’s enthusiasm for recruiting talent.
Just as he made another offer to Deni, Marquis Kashin suddenly shut his mouth when a voice echoed inside his mind.
—Sein, it seems you want to die.
Marquis Kashin was often jokingly told that, as the commander of the Imperial Knight Order, he had a disease where he charged recklessly at promising talent.
But the mont he heard that icy voice penetrating his mind, it felt as though that disease instantly vanished.
Soon afterward, the mocking voice echoed once again in his head.
—It wouldn’t be bad to see a Master representing the Tylers Empire get beaten at the Coronation Ceremony.
