Ignorance is bliss.

The foolish have their own kind of happiness, as do the wise with their own.

Qin Guanglin sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to smooth He Fang’s fringe on her forehead, then bent down and gently kissed her between the eyebrows.

Continuing the path of a past life, changing the threads of this life, and forcibly aligning them, that’s what she had been doing.

—We respect those who dare to pay the price to change their fate, for they are more deserving of happiness than those who pray all day, hoping for destiny’s charity.

The happiness of the wise is often fought for.

"You’re awake?"

Seeing He Fang’s eyelashes flutter and her eyeballs roll beneath her eyelids, Qin Guanglin couldn’t help but speak.

"You just kissed while I was asleep," He Fang opened her eyes and looked at him, intending to see what else he would do, but she was caught the mont she woke up.

"Do I need to sneak to kiss you?"

"To kiss without consent is to steal."

Qin Guanglin thought for a mont, then leaned down to pin her hands, saying, "Then I’m telling you now, I’m going to kiss you."

"I refuse—ouch, that stinks, don’t kiss ...hahaha...mmm—"

After so playful roughhousing, Qin Guanglin helped He Fang up from the bed, moved a little stool to the balcony to settle her in, and let her bask in the sun, while he went to make a vegetable salad in the kitchen.

The afternoon sun was warm and not too harsh in October, the golden rays enveloping her completely. He Fang sat erect on the little stool, leaning against the wall with her eyes closed, savoring this mont in ti.

A breeze blew by, and the branches and leaves of the big pagoda tree nearby swayed, the sowhat yellowed leaves rustling softly. She tucked the loose strands of hair at her temples behind her ear, feeling soone’s gaze upon her. Turning her head, the little girl on the balcony next door was staring with her big, shiny black eyes.

He Fang paused, then smiled, sensing her gaze on her belly, she instinctively touched it and waved, whispering, "Hello there."

The little girl seed shy, as if wanting to run back inside, but after standing still for a mont, she mustered the courage not to leave, whispering, "Hello...hello."

Perhaps realizing they were too far apart, she raised her voice and repeated the greeting, startling herself with the loudness. He Fang couldn’t help but laugh at her reaction, and the little girl, touching her head, also began to smile.

"How old are you?"

"I’m six...six years old." The little girl counted on her fingers, then nodded with certainty, "Six years old."

"Six years old, huh, you’ll be starting school soon..."

"Mm-hmm."

Across the balcony, the little girl wasn’t tall enough, and leaning over the railing, she could only show her head and part of her shoulders. As she opened up more, she chatted with He Fang, who was visibly pregnant, and it was clear she was enjoying the conversation.

"Who are you talking to?" Qin Guanglin ca out with the prepared salad, hearing the soft chatter on the balcony, he curiously ca over.

"Her na is Xiaoshan," He Fang tilted her head to gesture for Qin Guanglin to look over there.

"Hello there..."

Qin Guanglin greeted her in exactly the sa way as He Fang, waving his hand a couple of tis, but the effect was completely different. He was naturally tall and had developed a strong physique from regular exercise. Wearing just a thin shirt, standing there with a big grin and waving at the little girl, he unintentionally gave off an imposing vibe, scaring the girl nad Xiaoshan, who tightened her face and sneakily lowered her head, disappearing behind the wall.

"This..."

He touched his nose, feigning ignorance of He Fang’s roll of the eyes, and helped her up, ready to head to the living room to eat.

"Goodbye Xiaoshan, it was nice eting you." He Fang didn’t know if she was still behind her, but she softly said farewell and then, leaning on Qin Guanglin, they returned to the house.

Once the balcony quieted down, the little head on the other balcony slowly reappeared, peering around with big eyes.

"Never seen her before, new neighbor?" Qin Guanglin casually asked.

Having lived there for two years, strolling and andering through the complex daily, they had essentially t most of the residents.

"Probably."

"Hehe, the little girl is so cute, our daughter will surely be even cuter... and she has to be braver."

Qin Guanglin rubbed his face, not looking too ferocious himself, just a bit burly.

Right, burly.

Next ti he ran into so good-for-nothing, he’d twist their heads off.

...

...

The seven days of the National Day holiday whisked by, and He Fang returned to teaching at school on the eighth, while Qin Guanglin, out of habit, drove to work, only rembering he had resigned after getting into his car.

No need to head to that job anymore, staying ho to paint sufficed.

Five years flashed by, back to living like before... Qin Guanglin mused as he stepped out of the car and returned ho to huddle in the study, revisiting He Fang’s novel.

The novel was divided into seven volus. He couldn’t draw seven seasons of comics, so so details had to be omitted. He Fang’s writing was intricate, with one thread leading to the next, tightly interwoven, and not easy to sift through.

He read until nearly noon, when the alarm he had set for a little past eleven rang, and he stretched lazily, stepping out of the study to prepare a prenatal al for He Fang.

"It slls so good... It’s nice to have soone to take care of you."

He Fang ca back for her lunch break, the savory aroma greeting her at the door. Since becoming pregnant, their daily roles had swapped. Qin Guanglin used to be the one arriving to the scent of cooking, and now it was her turn, which was quite pleasant.

"Why didn’t you wait for to pick you up... Got held up cooking," Qin Guanglin said, poking his head out with a spatula in hand, seeing He Fang unpacking a bag of fruit on the coffee table. He hurriedly said, "Wait... this one’s yours, that one’s not."

"Hm?"

"Eat this one, it’s washed. That one needs to be washed again."

"Why so much?" He Fang wondered.

"That bag on the table, take it to work this afternoon, share it with your colleagues. Since you’re heavily pregnant, they’ll definitely look after you a bit more, so it’s a nice gesture to bring so fruit and snacks... In case sothing happens, they’ll be more attentive."

Qin Guanglin said from the kitchen, having arranged everything for He Fang. Regardless, having a pregnant woman in the office inevitably had so impact, such as with the air conditioning or the use of fans—things couldn’t be so unbridled. Even if people didn’t mind, it was still polite to consider, making everyone more comfortable.

Retreating ten thousand steps, if sothing were to happen, a slip or a bump, the colleagues would likely lend a more dedicated hand.

"So thoughtful, who’s the wife here, you or ?" He Fang teased, biting into an apple and giving him a peck on the cheek. "Thanks on behalf of the other teachers in advance."

"Out, why co into the smoky kitchen?"

"Oh..."

In the kitchen, sounds sizzled and popped as He Fang turned and sank into the living room sofa, inhaling deeply the continual wisp of food aroma, closing her eyes to sit quietly for a while, her hand caressing her belly.

"What are you thinking about?"

"Thinking about the new book."

"Did you figure it out?"

"Yeah, I want to write a story about a Ti Traveler."
