"Take it easy, no rush."

Chen Rui, seeing that he agreed so readily, was even happier, "If you have any problems, just co to ."

"Okay." Qin Guanglin nodded, put down the spray gun, and went back to his own spot to ponder.

He had picked up a new project, and it was quite challenging; he suddenly freed himself from his lazy state, held the booklet seriously, and inspected the twenty-so-page story for more than two hours, only stretching and putting it aside close to the end of the workday.

The beginning of everything is difficult, and then the middle...ugh, the beginning is the most tedious part. It involves establishing the overall style, designing character images, and various other miscellaneous things. It can’t be finished right away, and Qin Guanglin wasn’t in a hurry. He casually doodled and wrote on the draft paper with a brush.

Short hair, shoulder-length, a single ponytail, bun head... Various hairstyles on blank faces appeared on the paper, and then he crossed them out one by one.

Creating a character is tough.

"Boss, work’s over."

Jiang Lingling packed up her stuff, saw Qin Guanglin staring at the draft paper, and ca over to remind him.

"Oh." Qin Guanglin responded to show he heard, set the brush aside, thought for a mont, and then clipped the rough draft he drew at noon into the booklet before putting it all into his backpack, planning to continue working on it at ho.

It was still raining outside, but the downpour wasn’t as fierce as it was at noon; the light rain was incessant, silent, yet dense.

The water pooled by the roadside was dotted with ripples as Qin Guanglin and Sun Wen took the elevator down and each pulled out an umbrella from their bags.

"It’s been raining all day without stopping, what kind of terrible weather."

Sun Wen was particularly annoyed by rain; his large stature made it awkward to stay under an umbrella, and he always ended up getting a bit wet.

"It’s nice, actually. It’s refreshing." Qin Guanglin opened his umbrella, ready to step out, when he heard soone calling them.

"Boss, Brother Wen, you’re finally coming down." Jiang Lingling stood to one side, looking at the two, "Could I... get a ride to the bus station? I forgot my umbrella."

Sun Wen glanced at Qin Guanglin, "Your umbrella is bigger than mine."

"So?" Qin Guanglin frowned.

Even though they were colleagues, the idea of sharing an umbrella with a woman of the opposite sex made him sowhat resistant.

But it seed rude to refuse.

Seeing Jiang Lingling hoping, Qin Guanglin pushed his umbrella up and turned to Sun Wen, "Give her your umbrella."

"Huh?" Sun Wen was taken aback.

"My umbrella is bigger; we’ll go together."

"..."

Seeing Jiang Lingling looking at him, Sun Wen had no choice but to hand her the umbrella, "Take it, just give it back to tomorrow."

"I just need it to get to the bus station." Jiang Lingling hurriedly thanked him, "It’s very close to run back from there."

"Keep it."

Sun Wen hunched over to squeeze under Qin Guanglin’s umbrella, chuckled, and said, "Lin, your place is quite close to the bus station too."

"Rember to bring it back tomorrow." Qin Guanglin handed the umbrella to Sun Wen to hold; keeping his arm up was too tiring.

Jiang Lingling was headed for the bus station on the other side, and after the two n had walked a bit farther, Sun Wen clicked his tongue and said, "It’s a sha."

"What’s a sha?"

"She’s a great girl. If Xiao Yu were here, he’d definitely be eagerly offering to walk her there." Sun Wen then turned his head to look back once more.

"Escorting her a bit is no big deal." Qin Guanglin thought he was overthinking, "You’re not suggesting people should start dating over sothing like this, right?"

"No big deal? Then why didn’t you do it?"

"I didn’t want to."

"Heh."

...

Fortunately, by the ti he got off the bus, the rain had stopped, so Qin Guanglin didn’t have to run ho in the rain. He walked slowly down the wet streets to his front door and opened it; Qin’s Mom was busy in the kitchen, and there were already two cooked dishes on the table.

"Drop that, let do it." He put his backpack on the sofa and dashed into the kitchen wanting to take over.

"You’re here? Hurry up and wash your hands, it’s ti to eat."

Qin’s Mom had already finished half of the last dish and waved him away, "I’ve been eating your cooking for several days, it’s ti for a change of taste."

"Did Aunt leave?"

"She left at noon."

"I’ll fry an extra dish, wait for ." Qin Guanglin turned to search in the refrigerator, "Next ti she cos, just refuse her. She has her own ho yet insists on staying at others’, it’s annoying."

He was sowhat addicted to cooking; watching Qin’s Mom shuffle the spatula around the pot made his hands itch.

"That’s enough, we have plenty," Qin’s Mom called out from the kitchen, "You can cook tomorrow."

"Alright, fine."

Qin Guanglin searched in the fridge but couldn’t find any vegetables and reluctantly gave up.

Before long, the final dish was ready and served. Qin’s Mom had just taken a couple of bites when she suddenly asked, "How are things going with you and He Fang now?"

"Pretty good."

"It seems I haven’t seen her for a while. She hasn’t been here since she stayed the night that one ti."

"Aunt was here; I didn’t want her to co over," Qin Guanglin explained as he held his bowl, "She’ll be able to co over often in a few days."

"Oh?" Qin’s Mom looked puzzled, "In a few days?"

"You’ll see."

Qin Guanglin didn’t ntion that He Fang was looking for a place on the next street. He finished his al in a few bites and, while it was still not completely dark, called out and stepped outside.

He had to find a place for Teacher He, preferably from where he could use binoculars to see her from the window...

"Hi, I saw the ad for the house rental, the address is South Fly Road, number 118... Okay, thanks."

"Hello, I’m wondering if there’s a rental available at South Fly Road, number 166... I’m right on the street, yes, I can view it now."

"Hello..."

Walking from the intersection inward, Qin Guanglin called one after another from the rental ads posted on the wall. Even as it got dark, he found no suitable place.

Either the apartnts faced the shaded side, or the floor wasn’t right; finding a place with a clear view of the building across the street was proving difficult.

After a brief rant to He Fang via text, she called him.

"Are you actually looking?" He Fang asked on the other end.

"Of course, why would I joke about it? It’s tough to find."

Qin Guanglin looked around and simply squatted on the curb to talk to her, "Those hos are all on this side, or on the first or second floor, blocked by other buildings so you can’t see anything..."

"I was just joking. Who has ti to spy on you with binoculars every day? I’m not a creep," He Fang said sowhat helplessly on the phone, "We’re so close anyway, just a short walk away. Why would you need binoculars?"

"...Anyway, I just want to be able to see her."

"Fine, I’ll look for myself tomorrow. You’re not going to find squat."

"Wait, I’ll keep looking... till 8 o’clock," Qin Guanglin glanced at his watch, setting a deadline for himself, "If I can’t find anything by then, I’ll go back."

"You should head back now, no rush for these few minutes. Maybe I’ll stumble upon sothing perfect tomorrow morning," He Fang urged from the other end.

She’d known better than to tell him; she should have secretly found a place and then just asked him to help her move in.

"What if the perfect place gets rented out by soone else tomorrow?" Qin Guanglin repeated her words back to her, "Alright, I’ll look a bit more, gotta go."

After hanging up, he stood up and took a deep breath, continuing his search.

Even if they didn’t watch each other through binoculars, it would be nice just to stand by the window at night and see the lights in her room.

Knowing she was right there, just a glance away, felt comforting.

And he’d sleep better too.

...
