The early morning light ca into Lily's apartnt, creating sweeping shadows across the walls. She sat by the window, a steaming cup of coffee in her hands, her mind confused by the events of the previous night. Ethan's warning about Jack still resonated in her ears, but so did Jack's ominous comnts about Victor's disintegrating empire.

Both n had their goals, their secrets, and their own reasons for wanting Victor Kane destroyed. Who could she trust, the question was?

She was distracted from her thoughts when her phone buzzed on the table. She took a look at the screen. Jack had sent the text.

"Co see tonight. A café called Clocktower. 8:00 p.m. We have to proceed.

Lily felt her gut clench. Although she wasn't certain she was prepared to move further with Jack, there wasn't much ti left. Victor was losing ground, and each delay allowed him more chances to retaliate.

She put down the phone and gazed out the window, taking in the city's vibrant scene. Keeping Ethan inford was essential if she was going to et Jack. Regardless of his opinion of her tactics, he had a right to know the dangers she was taking.

By the evening, Lily had practiced her justification to Ethan a dozen tis. She paced her apartnt while the phone rang and phoned him.

"Lily," said Ethan, in a reserved tone.

"I must speak with you," she said. "It is significant."

On the other end of the telephone, there was a silence. "Listen to ."

She said, "I'm eting Jack tonight," anticipating his response.

"What?" Ethan's tone grew harsher. Why? He is hazardous, as I ntioned.

"Yeah," Lily blurted out. However, we can utilize the information he possesses against Victor. We will not be able to stop him if we do not take action imdiately.

"You're risking sothing," Ethan cautioned. "Lily, you are not important to Jack. You are being used as a pawn in his sche.

"Maybe," she said. But there's nothing else I can do. Now tell if you have a better plan.

Ethan let out a sigh, his tone revealing his frustration. "Just... exercise caution." Additionally, avoid telling him anything you can't retract.

"I won't," she vowed.

Her chest wrenched with sha as she hung up. She didn't want to lie to Ethan, but she couldn't allow her feelings to influence her decisions. This exceeded them both in size.

At precisely 8:00 PM, Lily reached the Clocktower Café. A few custors were strewn around the tables, but otherwise the tiny, poorly lit space was almost deserted. Jack smoked a cigarette while seated at a booth in the corner.

He said, "You're on ti," as she slid into the seat across from him.

"I don't co here to waste ti," she answered.

Jack laughed and tossed ash onto a tray nearby. "Lily, I appreciate that about you. Right to the point.

With her arms folded, she said, "What have you got for ?"

Jack leaned forward and his face darkened. Tomorrow evening, Victor will have a private eting at one of his warehouses on the waterfront. He is negotiating with one of his suppliers in order to strengthen his defenses. We will cut him off at the knees if we are able to intercept it.

Lily grimaced. "How did you find out about this gathering?"

Jack gave a sly smile. "I have my references."

"And just what are you expecting to do?"

Just "distract him," Jack said. Victor won't think you're guilty. If you can keep him busy, I'll take care of the rest.

Lily felt her stomach turn. "Do you want to go up to Victor? "Are you crazy?"

"You're not going to be alone," Jack promised. "There will be individuals keeping an eye on you. The only person who can approach him closely enough without drawing suspicion, though, is you.

Lily's heart was pounding as she shook her head. "It's too dangerous."

"Risky?" Jack arched an eyebrow. "You're already enshed in this ss, Lily. The only option is to go through.

Her mind racing, she gazed at him. Her instinct was to leave Jack to his sches and to walk away. In her heart, though, she knew he was correct. Playing it safe was not an option if she wanted to defeat Victor.

Despite the anxiety that was rising inside of her, she answered, "Fine," in a firm voice. "I will do it."

Jack grinned once more. Excellent. I was aware that you possessed it.

Lily couldn't get rid of the sensation that she was being observed as they worked out their plan. She looked around the café, taking in the space. But nobody was there, at least not anyone who was visible.

Lily was left to leave by herself when Jack sneaked out the back door after their eting. She felt a chill go through her as she entered the cool night air. The street was strangely still, and the shadows were longer than normal.

Her footsteps reverberated on the sidewalk as she began to head for her vehicle. She heard a slight shuffle behind her halfway there. She halted, gasping for air.

"Lily."

She felt a shock of terror at the voice. With haste, she turned to see Ethan erge from the shadows.

"Why have you co here?" With a racing heart, she demanded.

With a sad face, he confessed, "I followed you." "You shouldn't trust Jack," I said.

Lily's temper erupted. "Following was not your right."

"I was perfectly entitled," Ethan retorted. You're going to fall into a trap, Lily. Jack doesn't give a damn about you. He is utilizing you to reach Victor.

"I understand that!" she yelled. But there's nothing I can do. Taking chances is necessary if we wish to stop Victor.

Ethan clenched his jaw, clearly frustrated. "You will result in your own death."

"Then assist ," Lily murmured, her tone becoming softer. You should collaborate with if you don't trust Jack. If we work together, we can solve this.

With tension in his blue eyes, Ethan gazed at her. With a final sigh, he combed through his hair. Alright. I won't leave you to confront Victor by yourself, though.

There was a brief mont of relief for Lily, but it was soon eclipsed by the weight of what was to co. They were on a perilous path with greater stakes than before.

Lily kept thinking that the shadows were getting closer as they made their way back to her car. The fight with Victor Kane was only getting started, and she didn't know who would survive.
