deia couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear as she sat next to Lucian, who was driving the car. They were at the very front of the horde, while the other villagers in the trucks behind them.
Therefore, they finally had so ti alone without the distraction of others.
But even though she was happy to see his face after so long, there was a suppressed feeling that had been haunting deia for the past few days.
"Is it so hard to talk to every ti you co to the village?" deia huffed, "You were always busy before you left the village, and busy as soon as you ca back. It’s like you don’t want to talk to ."
Now deia felt like a neglected wife who was scolding her workaholic husband.
The workaholic "husband" lowered his head in guilt. He didn’t take his eyes off the road, but his hand tried to reach deia’s.
"Don’t be angry. I have a reason for what I did." Lucian held her hand, gently stroking each of her fingers to calm her. "It’s really hard for to leave the village when I see your face."
deia was taken aback by his words. Her lips suddenly felt numb and all she could do was grip his hand tightly.
Lucian coughed lightly before speaking, "Every ti I see you or hear your voice, all I want to do is hug you. But if I do it, my body will refuses to leave you." He murmured, "You may find my words creepy, but—"
"No, it’s not!" deia cut him off before he could think of a bad speculation. "I feel the sa way you do. It may sound strange, but if we both feel it, then it becos normal, right?"
Lucian finally turned his head to her and smiled, "I think so."
[Warning: Dangerous Mutant Approaching!!!]
[Three Rhinoceros Mutants Detected (Grade-C): Mutated Human / The Lost]
deia smiled bitterly as she heard those damn warnings. She sighed heavily to calm her rage at the system and the motherfucker mutants, then she said, "Lucian, I think we have to stop."
Lucian hit the ergency brake and the car screeched to a halt on the dusty road. He glanced at deia, his expression sharpening imdiately. "Mutants?"
deia frowned, wondering since when Lucian had realized that she could detect mutants before she could see them. But there was sothing more important to do right now, so she put the question to the back of her mind.
"I’m not sure." She pretended not to know what was coming. "Do you hear that voice?"
Lucian turned off the engine and rolled down the window. He tilted his head slightly, his keen senses picking up the distant rumbling deia had hinted at. "Faint, but yes. Heavy footsteps. Sothing large, no, perhaps more than one."
deia nodded. "Should we check it out? Or just keep going?"
"The mutants have already spotted us, so they will continue to hunt us if we try to escape." Lucian unbuckled his seatbelt. "Stay in the car. I’ll take care of them."
But she wanted to increase her points by killing one of the mutants. However, deia had never used her weapons to kill a mutant in front of Lucian, so she hesitated.
It was impossible to kill a rhino without fighting with a weapon.
What if Lucian didn’t want to protect her anymore if he knew that deia had the ability to use swords and other dangerous weapons?
Let’s just pretend to be weak a little longer.
"I’m not going anywhere," promised deia
"But if you need sothing from , just say it."
Lucian, "I need sothing from you."
"What-"
Before deia could finish her words, Lucian suddenly pulled her body closer and hugged her tightly. From such a close distance, she could sll the scent of cedarwood on his body, making her feel comfortable.
deia froze in his embrace, she didn’t even know where to put her hands.
This ti Lucian hugged her first.
’He fucking hugged first!’
[Foul language detected! Penalty -20 C-points]
Oh, who cared about the point reduction.
The only thing that mattered right now was that Lucian made the first move!
Unfortunately, the hug didn’t last long as the three rhinos ran toward their car like an angry bull.
"I just need this, thanks." Lucian’s smile was as bright as the sun. Maybe deia was just imagining things, but she swore that Lucian beca more energetic after that hug.
"Y-you’re welco," deia simply said that because she didn’t know what to say.
Lucian then got out of the car. He signaled to the truck behind him to stay in their place and let him take care of the mutants.
Inside the car, deia opened her mouth in a soundless scream. Her face was flushed, as if she had just eaten a whole plate of spicy hell peppers.
While she was busy fangirling over a hug, Lucian had been fighting the rhinoceros with his rusty sword.
The monster’s limbs flew through the air and its blood splattered everywhere, but Lucian managed to dodge the blood so his clothes didn’t get bloodstained.
He didn’t want the car to sll like blood and make deia uncomfortable on the way.
But if he moved too much, wouldn’t his body be covered in sweat?
Lucian had never thought about that, but now he was starting to worry about his body odor.
After cutting off one of the rhino’s heads, Lucian sniffed his inner jacket and imdiately breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that his body didn’t sll like foul garbage.
But maybe it would be better if he didn’t sweat too much. After all, he had to sit next to deia for hours.
Lucian moved his hand slightly and in a re second, the bones of the rhinoceros separated from their fleshes.
Their limbs fell to the ground, scattered like disgusting slabs of at.
"That was quick." deia raised her eyebrows. "You don’t usually use your abilities against lower grade mutants."
Lucian wiped the dust and dirt from his clothes before getting into the car. "Because it’s more efficient. We can’t waste ti on the road."
He started the engine, then continued their journey. "deia," he called her na softly.
"Yes? Do you need more hugs?"
He chuckled. "I can’t say no, but that’s not what I’m asking." He continued imdiately so as not to embarrass deia. "I’m delivering the water supply to Junk Garden in two days. Would you like to co with ?"
