Ethan replied, "I was just thinking ... what if we try to track down the researchers who escaped from the military base? They might be able to help us remove the chips from the soldiers’ heads."
deia folded her arms, thinking over Ethan’s suggestion. She considered it seriously and eventually decided that maybe, just maybe, it was actually a good idea.
Those researchers had probably worked on the early batches of experints before the base was burned down by the forr Corporal.
Even though deia didn’t like the idea of dealing with people who had played a role in making those children suffer, but if they could remove the chips without killing the soldiers ... then she was willing to find them.
"Do you know where they went?" deia asked.
Ethan shook his head and looked down, guilt flashing across his face. "Unfortunately, I don’t," he said with a sigh. "Maybe I shouldn’t have brought it up at all. I’m sorry."
deia ignored his guilt and leaned forward slightly. "Do you know the na of any of the researchers? Just one na is enough."
Ethan looked up, confused as to why she was asking, but still answered. "I only rember the na of the female researcher. If I’m not mistaken ... her na is Sora ..."
He paused, trying to recall her last na, until Max spoke up from the side. "Elowyn. Her na is Sora Elowyn."
deia made a ntal note to rember it. As long as she knew at least one of their nas, she could find them with the help of the mystical compass. "Alright," she said. "I’ll try to find them."
Max frowned, looking skeptical. Even though he had been avoiding talking to either deia or Lucian since the last incident, he still asked, "They’re nomads. How do you expect to track them down?"
deia smiled. "Well, I’ve got a way," she said. "But before I leave, I need to make sure this base won’t fall apart while Lucian and I are gone."
Since the mystical compass could only teleport three people at a ti, deia would probably have to use a car to bring the researchers.
Hence, she would be leaving the base without knowing when she would return and deia didn’t want to co back only to find that everything had turned to dust.
Max scoffed at her. "You think too highly of yourself. There are so many soldiers here. Do you really think we’d die that easily?"
deia raised an eyebrow. "Aren’t many of you easily defeated by a single flute?" She shrugged. "The words ’soldiers’ and ’strong people’ don’t always go hand in hand. In my eyes, most of you are just a bunch of kids."
A vein popped on Max’s forehead, but before he could vent his anger, deia had already risen from her chair. "Alright, my schedule’s been really tight lately, so I can’t spend too much ti gossiping with you guys."
She turned to Ethan. "For the anti, I hope you can train the timid soldiers to be braver. That way, I can leave this base with more peace of mind."
"Why ?" asked Ethan confusedly.
deia replied nonchalantly, "Because you’re the captain? And the most rational one among your peers?"
Max was strong, but he was a hothead. Mateo was still struggling just to walk, let alone teach others how to be stronger.
Besides, Ethan was the calst soldier with a strong ntal state. It had been proven by how quickly he snapped out of deia’s seduction skill.
"I’m counting on you, Captain." deia smiled, and before Ethan could say anything, she had already turned on her heels and walked toward the exit.
As soon as she stepped out of the cafeteria, deia pulled the mystical compass from her pocket and said, "Show the direction to Sora Elowyn."
[Activating Mystical Compass.]
[Destination: Sora Elowyn (The Military’s Forr Researcher.]
[Searching for the destination and the routes ...]
[DING! The system has already found Sora’s location.]
[Location: City C.]
deia tilted her head, wondering if City C was far from the Red Canyon or not. "How long would it take to get there by car?"
[Calculating estimated travel ti ...]
[DING! Estimated ti: 8 days, 20 hours, and 42 minutes.]
deia’s eye twitched. That was way too long. On top of that, these forr researchers were nomads. There was no guarantee they’d still be in City C by the ti she arrived.
[Host, the system actually has a solution for you.]
deia narrowed her eyes, already suspicious that the system was about to rob her pocket again. Still, she asked, "Let’s hear it."
[You can craft a more advanced compass by combining the mystical compass with 15 human souls.]
[To ensure a 100% success rate, you can also spend 2,000 C-Points.]
In other words, even if she handed over the mystical compass and 15 human souls, there was still a chance she’d fail to get the upgraded version?
This system really was a professional thief.
"What exactly can the advanced compass do?" deia asked.
[There are all kinds of benefits you can get from the advanced compass!]
[- The user can travel with up to 10 people (An extra charge of 100 gold coins will apply for each additional person).
- The user can bring a vehicle (Small and dium-sized vehicles are free, but large vehicles will incur a fee of 500 gold coins).
- The user will be able to view a 3D holographic map when heading to the destination.
- The cooldown ti will be reduced from 48 hours to 5 hours.]
Oh ... all of those features weren’t bad at all, especially the cooldown ti, which had been reduced by 43 hours. That ant deia wouldn’t have to spend so much money speeding it up anymore.
"Let’s do it!" deia said without a second thought.
[Understood. Initiating the crafting process for the Advanced Compass ...]
A glowing circle appeared beneath her feet, followed by a low hum that echoed in the air. The mystical compass in her hand started to vibrate, and shadows rose and spun around it.
[Consuming 15 human souls ...]
[Deducting 2,000 C-Points for 100% success rate ...]
deia winced. "That better be the last ti you rob today."
[Crafting in progress ... 10% ... 45% ... 79% ... 100%.]
With a flash of blue light, the old compass reshaped itself, transforming into a sleeker, more elegant version. The glass surface shimred with runes, and a small holographic map flickered to life above it.
[Crafting complete! Congratulations, Host! You have obtained: Advanced Mystical Compass (Grade-SSS ]
The compass dropped into her hand, and it felt heavier than the ordinary mystical compass. For so reason, deia could also sense a strong power radiating from it.
"deia, what are you doing here?"
Without even turning around, deia could already tell it was Lucian’s voice.
"I just got sothing new." She turned with a bright smile on her face and held up the new compass in her hand. "I’m planning our date. Want to co with ?"
Lucian didn’t even need to ask about her plan. He answered right away, "When are we leaving?"
deia chuckled, clearly amused by how fast Lucian agreed. "No hesitation at all, huh?"
Lucian grinned as he stepped closer. "You said the word ’date.’ Of course I’m in. Where are we going?"
"To find a forr military researcher who might be constantly on the move and possibly paranoid," deia said casually, spinning the compass once in her hand. "Very romantic, I know."
Lucian raised an eyebrow. "So, a dangerous road trip with no guarantee of success?"
"Exactly," she replied brightly. "Oh, and we might have to sleep in the car and fight off mutant beasts along the way."
Lucian leaned in slightly, his eyes gleaming. "Perfect. I’ll bring snacks."
deia laughed, then said, "But before we go, there’s sothing I need to do."
"A mission?" Lucian asked.
deia nodded. There were actually two missions and one of them had a ti limit. But she couldn’t exactly say, ’I want to fuck you in my demonic form’ just like that, so she decided to tell him about the other one instead.
"The system wants to gather more information about the creatures wandering around the Red Canyon."
Even though those creatures frequently road near the canyon, strangely, they hadn’t launched any attacks yet. That made deia curious, what was their real purpose in circling their base so often?
Even stranger, so of the young soldiers who tried to attack the Red Star Alliance a few days ago said they heard a terrifying roar that made them hesitate to keep moving toward the Red Canyon.
The monsters didn’t attack them, but their roars alone were enough to make the soldiers tremble in fear. If the Captain hadn’t forced them to keep going, they probably would’ve run away as fast as they could.
"Oh, about that ..." Lucian suddenly said sothing unexpected. "Actually, I found their nest last night."
deia widened her eyes and scread in front of his face. "You what?!"
How could he find sothing like that faster than her?!
