"It’s just a panther," deia said nonchalantly as Lucian went toward the bushes to check what was lurking there. anwhile, Bear encircled deia with its massive body, as if determined not to let anything co near her.
The wolf’s body was tense, its glowing red eyes piercing through the dark. At that mont, deia couldn’t believe it had been a cute little dog just monts ago.
[The system has detected that the panther possesses a hallucination ability.]
deia folded her arms, still looking completely unfazed. "How cute."
[Host, just so you know, Lucian is not immune to hallucination abilities.]
[Hallucinations are not made of atoms or anything he can control with his telekinetic.]
deia imdiately straightened her posture as the system’s words drop. Panic flashed across her face, and she scread at the top of her lungs, "Lucian! Lucian, honey, get back here!"
Nothing.
He didn’t answer her call, which was sothing Lucian would never do. He always listened to her, no matter how absurd her suggestions might be.
"Why didn’t you tell sooner?!" deia shouted at the system, her voice filled with frustration.
Bear let out a low howl, clearly agitated by her outburst. It looked panicked, as if sensing sothing was wrong. deia quickly rubbed its fur to calm it down. "It’s okay. I’m just talking to your annoying aunt."
[Host, the system has no gender.]
"You use a woman’s voice," deia replied.
[That’s because the system wants to be relatable to you, Host.]
[And regarding your earlier accusation, the system has already warned you that this mutant is incredibly dangerous.]
"But you told after Lucian left!" deia snapped.
[The system’s priority is you, Host, not Lucian.]
Priority? What a joke. deia clenched her fists.
The system always seed to conveniently delay its warnings until the last possible second, usually after she was knee-deep in danger.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that it was all deliberate.
The system wasn’t just late because of incompetence, no, it was too calculated for that. It was almost as if it wanted to create drama, to turn her life into a ga where every mont felt like walking a tightrope over a pit of monsters.
It let Lucian walk straight into the fog without so much as a warning. Why? To make things more "interesting?" To force her into another dire situation for the watchers’ amusent?
"Bear," deia gently touched the wolf’s head. "I need you to wait here while I go find your Papa."
The wolf rubbed its head against hers and let out repeated howls, a clear sign that it didn’t want to leave her alone. Every ti deia took a step forward, Bear followed closely behind, refusing to stay put despite her instructions.
deia groaned softly, finally realizing that the wolf wouldn’t dare to disobey Lucian’s order.
"Alright, let’s follow your Papa together," she sighed. "Just don’t leave my side."
They walked side by side into the forest, the fog was not that thick, so she could use her night vision without any problems. deia’s eyes darted around, scanning the area for any sign of Lucian or the panther, but she didn’t see any.
"Why did the panther suddenly co here?" deia muttered.
[The Abyss Stalker is a top-tier predator that preys on all mutants in the forest, especially mammoths due to their large bodies.]
deia furrowed her brows. "You knew that, but you still let spend the night in the mammoths’ den? Are you seriously trying to create an exciting situation for the audience?"
[Host, the system never has malicious intent toward you.]
Maybe not, but what about the system’s controller?
"Woof." Bear’s sudden bark snapped deia out of her thoughts.
"What is it, boy?" She turned to the wolf. "Did you find your Papa?"
Bear growled, baring its sharp fangs. Its body tensed more than ever, and deia instantly knew sothing dangerous was near.
Monts later, the low growl of the panther echoed through the forest. deia could feel its presence, but her eyes couldn’t locate it, as though it had lded perfectly with the darkness of the night.
A thick fog began to co, slowly enveloping the area, making it harder for deia to see the path ahead. "Bear, stay close to ," she said firmly, reaching out for the wolf.
But her hand found nothing.
"Bear?" she called.
The suffocating fog grew denser, and the silence that followed was almost deafening. "Bear, where are you?"
Oh no.
Did she fall under the influence of the hallucination?
deia imdiately summoned the abyssal sword and scanned her surroundings. She rubbed her eyes several tis, hoping her night vision would cut through the thick fog.
Unfortunately, the fog was so dense that deia’s vision eventually went blind. "Bear! Co to , right now!" she shouted as loudly as she could, hoping the wolf could hear her.
She gritted her teeth when Bear didn’t co to her. "This is annoying."
deia sighed in frustration. "Is there anything I can do to get rid of this damn fog?"
[The only way to get out of the hallucination fog is to make sure you know this is just a hallucination for fifteen minutes.]
Fifteen minutes didn’t sound too bad. What’s the worst that could happen in such a short amount of ti?
[The system suggests you not to move from your spot, because your physical body will also move if you move. You could fall off a cliff or be stabbed by branches.]
deia would be so pissed if she died just from being stabbed by a tree branch.
"Then, I’ll do nothing." deia dropped her body to the ground and sat there. "Do you think Lucian can get out of the hallucination easily?"
[He might not even realize he’s in a hallucination, Host.]
Unlike deia, who had the system to warn her, Lucian was alone, both physically and ntally.
"But he will be fine, right?" deia couldn’t help but feel a sense of worry in her heart. "The hallucination doesn’t seem so bad, after all."
[The hallucination hasn’t even started yet, Host.]
