The banquet started at exactly 10 in the morning, guests had already arrived... so in their most luxurious carriages while so were escorted.

The Mo residence looked so well decorated, and the colour the for the event was yellow.

Mada Mo and Grandma Mo were already seated patiently, watching the guests arrive.

Lady Xu was in charge of welcoming the guests. Though she looked much better than before... her skin was showing more colour, and she seed to have gained a lot of weight.

While all this was going on, Chu Ming was busy getting dressed.

"I’m going to look so good, Mo Ying won’t have any other choice but to stare only at ," she complinted herself as her maids applied high-level hairpins on her head.

"Yes, my lady. You always look breathtaking... these white jade hairpins your father brought for you all the way from the south are fit for a beauty such as yourself," Lian bathed her with complints as she just smiled like a fool.

Just then, a maid walked in bowing. "My lady, Lin Xu is now in the main kitchen with the chefs... they haven’t even done the desserts, talk less of the main al... and the ingredients were all half rotten or not fresh so the al won’t turn out good no matter what," the maid inford, smiling slightly.

"Hahahaha... exactly what I like to hear. That b*tch dared raise her hands on twice for that matter!" She smacked her hands on her dressing table.

"No one has ever raised their hands on before, not even my own parents. I’ll make sure to teach her the lesson of her life so she regrets ever ssing with ... hahahaha!"

She then raised her hands as Lian quickly helped her up. Chu Ming walked towards the huge mirror to see the overview of how she looked.

"I have to say, this dress which that San Na girl gave to us turned out quite beautiful... I never knew she could spend so much money on the outfits of her fellow wives. She should keep it up and I might just spare her so respect when I finally beco the main wife of the general."

She said smiling widely as she stared at her face.

"Lian, I hope the decorations went well... the dancers hired and the music group, whatever... just make sure the entertainnt and decorations are well settled... I must impress Lady Fu no matter what!"

anwhile, Lin Xu stepped out of the main kitchen looking like she had just fought a war, but that was all part of her act.

She had to make it look like she was really failing the task given to her, otherwise how would her enemies have peace of mind?

Now she had to go get ready; the show was about to begin after all.

Lin Xu walked back to her room to get ready. She wiped her face, grabbed a warm towel, and sat down as Rulan and two of her other maids rushed in with excited smiles.

They carefully helped her remove her outer robe and hung it aside.

One maid whispered as she untied Lin Xu’s hair, "My lady... we still can’t believe the general personally sent a dress for you."

Rulan nodded quickly, her eyes sparkling. "He even told Mrs. Han to sneak it in. My lady... how did you do it? How did you capture the heart of our cold general?"

The other maid added, "He doesn’t even spare a smile for his own family. But for you, he’s different."

Lin Xu blinked, confused. She had always known Mo Ying and his annoying personality, so hearing a cold version of him sounded weird.

"Capture his heart? What are you girls talking about? He just... cares about appearances for today’s banquet."

Rulan shook her head. "No, my lady. We’ve served in this residence long enough. General Mo Ying never cares about this kind of thing. If it wasn’t for you, he wouldn’t bother."

Another maid giggled softly. "My lady, don’t pretend. You’re the only one who can make him talk more than two words."

Lin Xu rolled her eyes but couldn’t stop the small smile forming on her lips.

"Stop imagining things," she said. "Just help get ready."

They happily continued.

She stepped into the white dress, and the maids let out a soft gasp.

"My lady... you look like a fairy."

"Yes! The general will faint when he sees you."

Lin Xu laughed. "He won’t faint. He’ll probably just tease instead."

Rulan grinned and leaned closer. "My lady... how did you win him over? Was it your cooking? Your beauty? Your sharp tongue?"

Lin Xu raised an eyebrow, amused. "Win him? You girls are thinking nonsense. Mo Ying isn’t soone whose heart you ’win.’"

The maids exchanged teasing smiles.

"But my lady..." Rulan said, holding a hairpin, "you must admit, he treats you differently."

Lin Xu didn’t answer.

She just smiled lightly, lost in thought.

"Maybe it’s because I’m not like the other won, maybe I’m not like any woman in the world... I have a totally different ntality from everyone I see," she finally said quietly as she looked at her reflection. "Maybe... that surprises him."

The maids giggled and continued fixing her hair.

Lin Xu was still speaking, unaware of her surroundings.

"So even if he suddenly acted cold, I won’t be too surprised. After all, I think all n are just annoying."

The maids kept giggling but suddenly went silent, and Lin Xu didn’t notice.

She kept talking while Rulan inserted the last pin. "And honestly, he can be so stubborn. If he ever—"

A deeper voice suddenly cut her words:

"Oh? So I’m stubborn, am I?"

Lin Xu froze as she slowly turned her head.

The maids were gone.

And Mo Ying was standing directly behind her.

Close enough that she could feel his breath on her ear.

Before she could speak, he leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her neck.

Lin Xu gasped and whipped around, eyes wide, face flushed.

"M–Mo Ying?! When did you—"

He stared at her with a calm expression... but there was clear warmth in his eyes.

"Long enough," he said quietly, "to hear you explain how you ’didn’t capture my heart.’"

Lin Xu felt her entire face burn.

"And long enough," he added, voice lower, "to hear you say I’m stubborn."

Her heart pounded wildly as he leaned closer.

"Tell then, Lin Xu," he murmured, "if I’m so cold to others... why am I only warm to you?"
