Lin Xu got dressed and stepped out of the room looking bright as though nothing had even happened last night.
When Yan i saw her, she just sighed and shook her head.
"Typical... I should have expected you both to solve the issue so quickly," she teased Lin Xu, pretending not to hear her.
While they were seated at the courtyard table, Yan i asked, passing Mo Bao so more rice.
"So you are going to be in charge of serving food at the banquet? Why did they give you that task? I’m really sure that snake of a woman is up to sothing."
Lin Xu took one bite of the at in front of her. "Of course she is... they all are, all wanting to get back at each other in whatever ways they can. But they can try... I promise you they won’t succeed," Lin Xu said proudly.
"Looks like you already have a plan in mind," Yan i smiled mischievously, making Lin Xu laugh.
"Call it whatever you want. I’m done eating... I have to head to the main kitchen and check it out... I’ll see you later."
She said as she wiped her mouth and stood up, pecking the triplets on the head before disappearing, her personal maid Rulan following behind her.
On her way to the main kitchen, Lin Xu felt a presence, and it had been following her and Rulan since they left their quarters.
She stopped on her feet and said aloud, "I’m not a fool, co out and stop hiding."
She voiced out as Rulan looked around her, confused at her lady’s words.
Before she could ask Lin Xu what was wrong, soone suddenly stepped out of the bushes.
Lin Xu turned, and to her surprise, it was the head maid, Miss Han.
Upon seeing her, Rulan bowed slightly while Lin Xu raised her brows, confused. "What is the reason for your sudden behavior, Miss Han? You are the head maid; surely you shouldn’t be doing such things towards your master."
Miss Han bowed slightly. "I apologize for following you without permission, my lady, I just really needed to et with you."
"et with ? For what exactly?"
Miss Han hesitated, staring at Rulan before her eyes t with Lin Xu. Lin Xu imdiately understood and turned to Rulan. "Go wait at the edge there and stop anyone from interrupting us."
"Yes, my lady," Rulan nodded and excused them.
"She is gone now, it’s just and you... say what you want to say, Miss Han."
With Rulan gone, Miss Han then felt more at peace. She then began explaining, "Well, my lady, firstly I would like to thank you for helping the other ti. If not for you, I would have been humiliated... thank you once again."
"There’s no need for all these. If this is the reason you followed , then I find it quite offensive. Is there anything else?"
Miss Han swallowed and held her hands together nervously. "There... there is sothing else, my lady."
Lin Xu just looked at her calmly, waiting.
Miss Han lowered her voice. "Yesterday, when I was going to the eastern wing to deliver so cloth, I heard Miss Chu Ming talking with her maid Lian. They were talking about you."
Lin Xu didn’t look surprised at all. She simply said, "Continue."
Miss Han took a deep breath. "Miss Chu Ming wants to use the banquet to ruin your na. She plans to spoil everything."
Still, Lin Xu didn’t show any emotion.
Miss Han continued, "She is planning to use her connections to stop the food ingredients from arriving on ti. The vegetables, at, spices... all of it. She wants them to co late so you won’t be able to cook anything."
Rulan, who was standing at a distance, tensed up.
Miss Han’s voice shook a little. "If the food is not ready, everyone will bla you. And to think Lady Fu will be present for the banquet... Lady Fu isn’t soone to give a bad impression to."
Miss Han explained as Lin Xu just let her words sink in.
Finally, Lin Xu blinked and let out a very small laugh.
"So that’s her plan?"
"Yes, my lady," Miss Han said, thinking Lin Xu might explode in anger.
But Lin Xu smiled and calmly replied, "She only plans to delay the ingredients? Then let her have her way... after all, it’s a free world, is it not?"
"Huh?" Miss Han looked confused at this point.
"My lady, aren’t you bothered about all these?"
"Bothered? Hah! Why would I be bothered?" Lin Xu said with a slight laugh as she slowly walked, Miss Han following behind her.
"But my lady, if Miss Chu Ming ends up having her way, then your reputation will be ruined. Lady Fu would be furious, and the general’s favor for you may decline," Miss Han said sadly.
But Lin Xu was stuck at that reputation part; she had almost forgotten that this was historical tis where one’s image and reputation were much more important than their lives.
She hadn’t even married Mo Ying yet and her reputation was already being put to the test.
The lady’s banquet would be like a small debut for her into the new aristocratic society, first impressions matter, they say.
Stopping midway, she then turned to Miss Han with a mischievous smile.
"Miss Han. Do a favor."
Finally feeling relieved that Lin Xu had made up a plan, Miss Han nodded imdiately. "Yes, my lady, anything you want to do I will do."
"Good, I like that spirit... I want you to do... nothing!"
"Huh!?"
"You heard ... absolutely nothing. Just let that brat have her way. She can remove all the ingredients or whatever... I don’t care. Just act as though nothing’s happened, do you understand?"
"B-but my lady, how can we do nothing... we can’t let her succeed..." Miss Han was confused about all this.
anwhile, Lin Xu was smiling. "Who said we would let her succeed... all we are going to do is simply let her think she’s succeeding. After all, only those who think they have won the battle end up laying their guard down and resting... and when she finally rests..."
"We strike!"
