Back at Nepthal Country, William was fully occupied handling the aftermath of everything, with Brandon and Uncle Ben assisting him closely.
At that mont, he stood inside Carla’s private hospital room, watching her as she lay unconscious on her bed. The doctors had confird she had ingested the sa drug that was found in Aunt Sumr’s system. Her treatnt would begin tomorrow, following the sa protocol that was now helping Sumr recover.
"Tim probably thought this would keep you safe," William said, his voice low as he looked at Carla’s still form. "But he’s wrong."
He didn’t care if she could hear him or not. Maybe so part of her would listen, just like Aunt Sumr had. Maybe her mind would begin to process everything.
"You’re going to wake up, Carla. And when you do, you’ll face everything you’ve done, every single lie, every person you’ve hurt."
His eyes narrowed slightly, his tone firm and resolute. He wasn’t just doing this for his sister-in-law or for the family, he was doing this for justice.
He had tightened security around Carla’s room. Not only were there guards stationed outside, but William had also ensured he personally knew every staff mber assigned to her care.
Additional security agents had been planted throughout the hospital floor, cleverly disguised as nurses, orderlies, and even patients. No one would get in or out without his knowledge.
He wasn’t taking any chances, not this ti.
The door swung open and Brandon stepped inside, his expression thoughtful. "Do you think she’s aware of her origin?" he asked, glancing over at Carla.
William let out a dry, wry smile. "She knew," he said firmly. "There’s no doubt in my mind. The way she worked with Tim... even after everything Uncle Arlan and Aunt Sumr did for her, how they loved her as their own, she still chose to betray them. That says enough."
He folded his arms and stared at Carla with a look that was more disappointed than angry. "She knew that Tim was her biological father and Lydia her real mother. The only thing we don’t know is when she found out. But honestly? It doesn’t really matter anymore."
It was thanks to Brandon that William got a crucial lead.
Brandon had ntioned before that the mother of his girlfriend, Vania, used to work as a janitor at Clayton University Hospital. The older woman had witnessed sothing no one else talked about sothing that beca a key piece of the puzzle.
She recalled a specific day, years ago, when Lydia was rushed into the hospital. What stuck with her was that during the entire procedure in the operating room, the only people present were Tim and Sylvia. No official records. No other dical staff. Just the two of them.
And from that room, they took out a baby.
Shortly after, Lydia was declared dead, her death was ruled a suicide and there was no ntion of a baby from her. That testimony, even if only verbal for now, aligned with so many inconsistencies they’d discovered.
William knew it wasn’t just a coincidence. It was preditated. It was deception at its finest, cloaked under grief and tragedy. Now that piece of truth was going to help them build a case.
Brandon nodded slowly as William continued, "What matters now is gathering enough solid evidence to get a warrant against Tim. We’re putting that man on trial. He has to answer for everything, especially what he did to Aunt Sumr, to Rain, and this family."
"Don’t worry, I’m working fast," Brandon assured, his tone firm. "Tim also has a connection with Michael Astor. We’re just waiting to get one solid piece of evidence, and once we have that, it won’t be long before he’s detained."
"Good," William nodded. "But make sure you monitor his every move. Be discreet, we don’t want to tip him off."
Right now, the dia was still focused on Carla and her accomplices, Dina and Rico Alvarez. That attention was buying them ti, but it wouldn’t last forever.
"I’ll leave things to you for now," William added, grabbing his coat. "I can’t be late for dinner. She doesn’t like it when I miss family als."
Brandon smirked. "Go ho already before she cos looking for you."
William chuckled and gave a brief wave before leaving. As much as the investigation weighed on him, family always ca first.
He arrived just in ti for dinner with Sanya, his father and Aunt Vernice, as well as Uncle Ben and Aunt lanie.
As soon as everyone was seated and about to start eating, his father suddenly spoke up. "I have an announcent. I know this might feel sudden, especially with everything going on, my health, and Rain’s situation, but I think it’s ti to share so good news."
William’s eyes widened. One look at Aunt Vernice’s glowing smile was enough to confirm what he was thinking. Without aning to, he blurted out, "Are you finally going to remarry?!"
Sanya gave him a gentle elbow to the side while the rest of the table burst into quiet chuckles, except for his father, who narrowed his eyes at him with a half-smile. "You always have to ruin the surprise, don’t you?"
William gave an apologetic grin and rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry, it just slipped out. But really, are you?"
Vernice blushed slightly and nodded, her eyes soft as she glanced at his father. "Yes. We’ve decided... it’s ti."
There was a brief silence, then Sanya clapped her hands gently. "It’s about ti, honestly. You two have been through so much together. This is sothing to celebrate."
Uncle Ben raised his glass. "To new beginnings."
"To new beginnings," everyone echoed, glasses clinking together as warmth filled the room.
Sanya leaned closer to William and whispered, "I think this is exactly what the family needs right now... sothing happy to hold onto."
He smiled and kissed Sanya’s cheek. "Yeah... it really is. So many good things happening lately, Aunt Sumr’s treatnt is showing progress, then we found out about the twins, and now Dad’s getting remarried!"
Aunt Vernice blushed and softly added, "But we’re planning to just register our marriage. No grand ceremony, just a simple gathering here at ho with close family and friends."
"Ah, don’t worry, Aunt Vernice! I’ll take care of preparing the celebration here at ho," Sanya eagerly offered. "And I’m sure Rain and Alexander will be thrilled to hear the news!"
William had that proud smile on his face as he looked at his wife, his heart full. It had been a long ti since he’d felt this much peace. With good news after good news, it finally felt like their family was healing.
But just as he thought the night would end on that warm, joyful note, his phone rang sharply on the table. He glanced at the screen and his smile quickly faded, it was a call from the man leading the surveillance team tailing Tim Clayton.
He answered it imdiately, his voice low but firm. "Hello?"
The voice on the other end spoke fast, and whatever was said made William’s expression change in an instant.
"What?!" he burst out, slamming his hand against the table in disbelief.
