Capítulo 1917: Chapter 2118: Why Did You Lie to !!!

“Why did you deceive ?”

Zhang Danlin said casually, but her eyes—already quite big, frad by long lashes—were particularly captivating. Now, however, they were wider than ever, conveying confusion with a gaze demanding an answer from Hao Jian.

It was as if, without a satisfactory answer from Hao Jian, she might do sothing unexpected.

Hao Jian, seeing this, was instantly at a loss. He explained, “Wasn’t it because I slept late last night? I’m very tired and wanted to rest during this ti, so I said that.”

For a mont, he was at a loss for words, but one thing was clear: if he didn’t say sothing, she might pester him indefinitely. So, he decided to casually make an excuse to brush her off; otherwise, it would never end.

Sure enough, upon hearing Hao Jian’s explanation, although he was clearly babbling, the irritation in Zhang Danlin’s heart disappeared.

She then looked at Hao Jian and said, “Alright, fine, I’ll believe your excuse for now. But I have a question: what’s your relationship with Liang Xiaohan?”

Hao Jian didn’t expect her to ask this question so suddenly. He used the excuse he had given to Fatty and Hu Lai, saying, “Just ordinary friends, nothing more!”

“I don’t believe it!” Zhang Danlin imdiately responded.

She thought to herself, Hao Jian really treats her like a three-year-old, offering such a ridiculous answer to fool her. Maybe she would’ve believed it when she first transferred, but now, after everything that’s happened—especially seeing how anxious Hao Jian was at the prospect of offending Gu Peng—no way.

Therefore, hearing Hao Jian’s answer, the first thought in her mind was disbelief. To believe such nonsense, she would truly be a fool. The more he acted this way, the more suspicious she beca.

But after Hao Jian gave this answer, to prevent Zhang Danlin from continuing to question him endlessly, he imdiately pretended to receive a phone call. He took out his phone and began to feign urgency.

“Hello! Oh, oh, oh, you’re awake, okay, I’ll be right there—yes, yes, yes, just a mont…” Hao Jian said.

He stood up, pretending to say a lot, then pretended to hang up and sat down, saying to Zhang Danlin, “Anything else? If not, there’s soone outside waiting for , so I won’t be seeing you off then.”

Zhang Danlin saw Hao Jian’s guilty deanor and knew he was being deliberate. But before she could say anything, Hao Jian had already pulled her to her feet.

“I have to get ready to et soone; they’re waiting for . People get unhappy if they’re kept waiting, so if there’s nothing else, I won’t be seeing you off. We can talk next ti at school,” Hao Jian said.

“Hey!”

Zhang Danlin was halfway out the door, wanting to say sothing, but Hao Jian simply smiled and shut the door.

Exactly, just like that, he drove her away and slamd the door, leaving her standing outside even if she had a thousand words to say and a mound of questions to ask. But with the door shut tight, there was no way she could speak.

Driven out by Hao Jian, she stared at the door, her mind spinning with frustration but uncertain where to direct it. Feeling awkward about knocking, it seed like she was begging, a feeling she didn’t like. It wasn’t her.

So, she stood outside, angrily swearing that the next ti she saw Hao Jian, she’d make sure to get answers for these questions. She’d show him a sight to behold; otherwise, she couldn’t vent her anger.

Thinking this, she kicked the door a few tis in frustration, then turned and left. She was truly upset today; she’d never faced a closed door like this before. It was really the first ti in her life.

Once Hao Jian peered through the peephole and saw Zhang Danlin leave in a huff, he finally let go of his tightly held breath. Had she stayed, who knows what she might continue to ask, and the longer she questioned him, the more awkward things would beco for him.

Thus, he quickly devised a plan, fake-pushing her out halfheartedly to get rid of her. Although her angry look suggested he might face consequences next ti, avoiding confrontation when possible ant less awkwardness.

Through this ordeal, he fully understood Zhang Danlin’s intentions. Although she claid she was just passing by, clearly, she had prepared to co, and her questions were so precise. He wasn’t a naive boy, so her intentions were clear to him.

He couldn’t pinpoint when he began to appeal to her, but she indeed seed drawn to him. Though she was a class belle, attractive by any asure, why would she even consider him? So, he chose to keep his distance, not wanting to hinder a beautiful, charming girl like her.

With these thoughts, he felt relieved seeing her finally leave through the window.

After such disruption, sleep eluded him. He chose to get dressed and head outside for so fresh air, staying out until nightfall before returning. Curling up on the couch watching TV, twenty minutes after school let out, Xiaohai returned.

Once back, she said little, appearing exhausted. After a brief routine, she lay down to sleep.

Having slept most of the day away, Hao Jian found himself idly watching TV in the living room, ruminating on the day’s events. Seeing Xiaohai asleep, he lowered the TV volu.

Within a week, back at school, he expected Gu Peng to cause trouble, sothing Hao Jian was well aware of. Though he’d only greeted Gu Peng a few tis, it was obvious he held grudges, especially after losing face publicly on that occasion, sothing hard to avoid.

The saying “Counter soldiers with arms, water with earth” held true, but he knew contending with Gu Peng once was easy—not twice or thrice though, for he truly detested trouble.

Hence, he began plotting in his mind for what might co next. He wouldn’t just sit back and do nothing; when necessary, he’d act first.

With this in mind, he intermittently watched TV, pondering as the outside darkness quietly enveloped the night, growing late.

Suddenly, however, his phone rang. Picking it up, Hao Jian recognized the number, though not saved, having morized it earlier. It was none other than the one Zhang Danlin called him from in the afternoon.

Seeing Zhang Danlin’s number, he hesitated about whether to answer. Since answering might lead to difficult conversations, bringing more awkwardness, maybe best to ignore it. Yet, as it rang, four or five tis already, Hao Jian softened.

Perhaps she was calling for a reason, better to pick up after all.

With that thought, he pressed the answer button. But despite waiting several seconds, no sound ca. Sensing this, Hao Jian wore a worried expression, thinking she might have accidentally dialed him, ready to hang up.

However, then suddenly, Zhang Danlin’s fearful voice ca through.

“What are you doing!” Zhang Danlin said.

“What? Just wanted to discuss sothing with you,” a sleazy male voice responded.

At this, Hao Jian’s expression changed instantly. Initially planning to hang up, now he pressed the phone to his ear, listening carefully.

He then heard Zhang Danlin speak sternly, “I don’t know you, stay away from !”

It sounded as though there wasn’t just one man, several voices were heard.

“Don’t know us? Well, talking will help you get to know us!”

“Exactly, don’t know us yet but you can get to know us, beauty, let’s be friends.”

“Yeah, let’s be friends, beauty. Walking alone at night, why not let us brothers be your escorts?”

Zhang Danlin responded with disgust, “Stay away, you’re disgusting!”

“Disgusting? But seeing you is quite appealing, beauty!”

At that point, Zhang Danlin suddenly scread.

Hearing this, Hao Jian understood, rage boiling beneath his surface.

From this exchange, he grasped what was happening. He wasn’t sure why Zhang Danlin was outside alone at such an hour, but it was clear those n were up to no good—they’ve shown their true colors with such vulgar dialogue.

Bad!

This was the thought imdiately arising in Hao Jian’s mind.

He clenched his fist, veins bulging as his face flushed red with fury.
