Chapter 1686: Chapter 1887: Sudden Rent Increase!!!

Seeing the landlord nad Brother Zhang, who used to look at him with disdain, sitting inside, Hao Jian was initially planning to go to another place. But when he saw him inside, he headed into the store.

As soon as he entered, the owner ca up to greet him and handed Hao Jian a nu. Hao Jian took the nu and randomly ordered a few things before handing it back to the owner, who imdiately went to work.

Though it’s just a small shop, it’s well-managed and orderly, which surprised Hao Jian. He didn’t expect such a small shop to be up to standards in terms of cleanliness and other aspects, no wonder so many custors choose to dine here.

However, as Hao Jian thought this over and looked up, he noticed that Brother Zhang was glaring at him. Normally, Brother Zhang might have looked away when he realized he was noticed, but this ti he looked even more defiant, gazing at Hao Jian with an arrogant expression.

Hao Jian smiled quietly, he didn’t even know when Brother Zhang started paying attention to him, it was quite surprising.

What he didn’t know was that ever since he stood outside Wang Shuangshuang’s place and exchanged a few words with her, Brother Zhang had been watching him with a resentful look. If Hao Jian realized this, he’d probably understand everything right away.

Hao Jian just smiled and didn’t mind him, but Brother Zhang kept staring. Hao Jian smiled lightly, completely ignoring it, and focused his attention elsewhere.

This shop’s service was quick; Hao Jian didn’t wait long before the snacks he ordered were all served. He picked one up and started tasting it slowly.

Though not exceptionally good, the taste was decent enough to be enjoyable. So, Hao Jian ordered a bit more and continued eating.

A few minutes later, he finished eating and was just about to pay the bill and leave when he saw Brother Zhang also rise to his feet without paying. The owner pointed out to him that he hadn’t paid yet.

At this point, Brother Zhang suddenly pulled so notes out of his pocket and, facing the owner, maintained an imposing deanor even though he hadn’t paid for his food, and said, “Ready to pay this month’s rent.”

The owner was clearly surprised by Brother Zhang’s sudden statent, and after a few seconds of being dazed, he replied, “Brother Zhang, isn’t the rent due in a few days? Why today…”

Before the owner could finish, Brother Zhang interrupted loudly and intimidatingly, “Damn it, where do you get so much nonsense? We rent you the place, I say when to pay the rent, if you don’t pay, you can get the hell out and don’t rent anymore.”

At this, the owner’s face fell; he didn’t expect such words from Brother Zhang and was montarily speechless. But, under the circumstances, he had to swallow his pride.

Thinking it over, he signaled to his wife. She went into the back room and returned a minute later with a stack of Pink Banknotes and handed them to the owner before leaving.

The owner counted the money in his hand and handed it to Brother Zhang, who smiled slightly on receiving it, but maintained an arrogant look.

The owner smiled and said, “Brother Zhang, here’s the money, I’ve paid this month’s rent in advance.”

Brother Zhang didn’t respond to him, just counted the money and gradually his smile faded. Holding the stack in his hand, his expression turned sour as he said, “What’s going on? It’s short by five hundred!”

Surprised, the owner said, “No way, I counted precisely, a thousand exactly, it can’t be short by five hundred!”

If it were just one note short, perhaps there could be a counting error, but a solid thousand, suddenly missing five hundred, which is more than half, is impossible.

But Brother Zhang discontentedly said, “What thousand, I said fifteen hundred, short by five hundred.”

Startled, the owner said, “Brother Zhang, isn’t the rent a thousand? When did it rise to fifteen hundred? If it increases this much, we really can’t afford it!”

Unexpectedly, as soon as he said this, Brother Zhang’s face showed anger, he savagely glared at the owner and said, “Damn it, you dare talk to

like that? If you don’t rent, then get out, otherwise, produce fifteen hundred, no fifteen hundred, then get out. If you don’t rent, plenty of others will!”

Faced with this, the owner’s expression soured, but in this situation he’s asking for a favor, not the other way around, so he has to hide his dissatisfaction. His shop is just a small business, and although he didn’t make money in previous months, business just started improving this month and they made so money.

But suddenly, just as business improves, the rent goes up, making it hard for him to accept, but he can only address Brother Zhang tactfully, not daring to be direct, fearing it wouldn’t end well.

However, Brother Zhang made it clear that if he didn’t co up with an additional five hundred for rent today, he shouldn’t expect to continue renting.

The owner looked helpless, business was just turning around, yet he hasn’t recouped initial investnts, and with early investnts being huge, starting over now would an a significant loss. Furthermore, future business prospects look promising, if they relocate, custor numbers are uncertain, and losses could continue.

Thus, giving up the store is hard for him; but with Brother Zhang pressing, failing to secure an extra five hundred today for rent could an business closure.

Considering this, the owner weighed the pros and cons, but seeing Brother Zhang’s expression, he realized there’s no hope.

Resignedly, he signaled his wife again; though her face showed dissatisfaction, seeing her husband’s look, she resignedly went back inside and brought out five Pink Banknotes, handing them to the owner.

Receiving the money, the owner gave a sycophantic smile to Brother Zhang and said, “Brother Zhang, here’s the five hundred, my rent is settled.”

Seeing that the owner truthfully paid up, Brother Zhang took the money, added it to the previous sum, smiled, and cast a sideways glance at his unfinished al on the table.

The owner realized Brother Zhang’s intentions, smiled, and said, “Forget it, let’s consider these on , no need to pay.”

Brother Zhang heard this, smiled, looked at the owner with a satisfied expression, and swaggered off with a toothpick in his mouth.

Seeing Brother Zhang’s departure, the owner who was previously fawning now showed a lancholy expression, while his wife’s face also turned unpleasant.

Hao Jian witnessed all this but said nothing and did nothing, just glanced at Brother Zhang’s al, estimating it would cost at least a hundred; one person eating that much was truly excessive, his true ugly nature showing.

With these thoughts, Hao Jian called the owner to pay. He actually owed less than twenty, but when paying, he handed the owner a hundred, telling him to keep the change.

The owner looked at Hao Jian in shock, montarily dazed, and when he snapped out of it, found Hao Jian had already left.

After leaving the snack shop, Hao Jian returned to his car. He looked at his phone, seeing it was still early and not even lunchti yet, so he sat in the car unsure of what to do.

Just then, as he was considering what to do, Liang Yuwei called him and asked him to pick her up at the police station and take her to the city hospital.

Hao Jian smiled silently and agreed, started the car, and prepared to head to the police station. Just as he started the car, he saw Brother Zhang walking ahead.

Seeing him and a big puddle in front, Hao Jian recalled the earlier incident, feeling a playful impulse.

That’s what you get for bullying innocent people.

Hao Jian looked at the puddle as Brother Zhang approached it, then pressed the accelerator. The car sped out, splashing dirty water.

At that mont, Brother Zhang was just near the puddle, and as Hao Jian drove past, the dirty water splashed all over him, while he was happily chewing on a toothpick, caught off guard, then drenched head to toe.

Mud and other debris mixed in the water splashed all over him, including his face. He barely realized what happened, drenched entirely.

When he ca to, he opened his mouth ready to curse but stopped seeing the luxurious Maserati that drove by.

Suddenly, he was montarily speechless.
