Capítulo 1556: Chapter 1756: The Little Girl and the Woman

The reason humans stand above all things, one is because of their minds, the other is because of emotions. People are emotional, whether it’s towards things, objects, or people.

Because of the Moon’s departure, Hao Jian was sowhat unhappy. Last ti the Moon left him and then disappeared without a trace. eting again, a series of events occurred. If the Moon were to leave, Hao Jian was actually unwilling, but he respected the Moon’s choices and thoughts.

With the Moon gone, Hao Jian lost interest in eating, drinking, and having fun, and didn’t feel like returning to Hua City. So he hailed a cab to a nearby city, wandering aimlessly to vent the sorrow in his heart.

By this ti, it was already night, Night Color had just fallen, and the city, quiet all day, began to bustle. Whether it was young folks, urban professionals, or students, most chose to co out at this ti, be it to gather with friends or go on dates, but most were single n and won.

The whole city at this mont exuded a vibe of vitality and the scent of hormones. Hao Jian walked from lively bustling places to quieter spots. He didn’t know where he was going or where he was at that mont, he just wanted to find quiet, so he kept walking towards peaceful places.

Where there were few people, he walked towards, where there were many, he walked the opposite direction.

As he walked, the people on the road gradually beca fewer, but there were still ones and twos passing by, except compared to bustling comrcial areas, it was much quieter here, less noisy, which was exactly the non-clamor Hao Jian wanted.

As he walked, suddenly he slled an aroma, a scent very provoking to one’s appetite. Hao Jian looked up and saw a noodle shop ahead, a stall set by the roadside. Though the aroma wafted, there weren’t many eating—just two or three people, forming a stark contrast to the city center’s crowds.

For so reason, after slling this aroma, Hao Jian felt a little hungry. He walked towards the shop; the boss was a seemingly honest middle-aged man. Hao Jian ordered a dish of signature fried noodles and sat at a table, waiting for the al to arrive.

Soon, the boss brought a steaming bowl of fried noodles up. Perhaps he was really hungry, having not eaten anything since breakfast, Hao Jian quickly started eating the noodles.

He had to say, the taste was really quite good.

Hao Jian kept his head down, eating noodles evenly, but then, soone tugged at his hand. He was focused on eating but realized soone was pulling his arm, so he lifted his head to look.

To his surprise, it was a little girl tugging at him. Her clothes were tattered, her face dirty, probably about fifteen years old, neither tall nor short, looking malnourished, likely not having eaten for many days.

Hao Jian thought, she must be asking for money.

But Hao Jian was never one to focus on doing good deeds. The Dead Souls he’d accumulated were already nurous. He never believed in these things nor pursued them. If he saw such situations before, he’d always skirt around them. Not because he was cruel-hearted, but everyone has their fate, and he didn’t want to change soone’s fate.

Even if he gave her money today or bought her sothing to eat, it wouldn’t change her life anyway. Everyone’s life is different, and he didn’t want to ddle in others’ lives.

Yet, this ti he kind of changed his mind. Seeing the girl’s expression looking at the half-eaten noodles, he knew she was hungry, and called the boss, asking for another order of fried noodles.

The boss replied, “Coming right up!”

Hao Jian no longer had the mood to eat noodles, just kept watching the little girl. She didn’t look at him, her gaze only fixated on that bowl of noodles. Hao Jian then said, “Wait, the noodles will be here soon!”

At this, the girl glanced inside and swallowed hard.

Hao Jian then asked, “Where are your parents?”

The girl’s lips were cracked, she said nothing, just shook her head.

Hao Jian didn’t know what the shaking ant, whether it was no parents or parents didn’t care for her, but he didn’t want to pursue this either, turning back to just watch the girl, not saying anything.

Soon enough, the boss brought another steaming bowl of noodles, telling Hao Jian to enjoy.

At this ti, Hao Jian placed a pair of chopsticks on the table, handed the noodles along with the chopsticks to the girl, telling her to eat.

The girl, though full of desire, looked very much wanting, but didn’t pick up the chopsticks. Hao Jian thought maybe she was afraid to eat, so he picked it up and placed it in her hands.

Hao Jian said, “Eat, if it’s not enough I’ll ask the boss to make another.”

The girl held the steaming noodles, her throat instinctively moving. Hao Jian could see the girl was extrely hungry, wanting the noodles badly, but she just wouldn’t eat, there must be a reason.

Sure enough, the girl held the noodles, her gaze shifted to another direction.

Hao Jian looked that way, his vision was clear. He spotted a woman sitting not far off in a corner. The woman’s clothes were just as tattered as the girl’s, lying on the ground like she’d lost all strength, no vitality at all.

At this mont, Hao Jian stared at the girl and asked, “Is that your mother?”

The girl was too scared to speak, her fear showed she’d likely not communicated with people in a long ti. Listening to Hao Jian’s words, she simply nodded.

Thinking it through, Hao Jian understood imdiately. Likely the girl wasn’t eating because her mother hadn’t eaten. She wanted to take the hard-gotten noodles and share with her mother, but without Hao Jian’s permission, she didn’t dare take the noodles away, also couldn’t explain the situation, resulting in this scene.

At this, Hao Jian chuckled. He didn’t know why he suddenly wanted to help the girl. Usually, he wouldn’t have such thoughts, perhaps it had sothing to do with his mood now, when moods differ, people wish to do different things. Hao Jian now felt like helping the girl.

Thus, Hao Jian asked the boss to fry up a few more orders to go. Though business was slow, buying several orders at once made Hao Jian a big custor. The boss hurriedly fried up the noodles.

Not long after, the noodles were ready, packed as Hao Jian requested, placed on his table with the words, “Enjoy!”

Speaking, the boss saw Hao Jian talking with the girl, witnessed the girl’s gaze in the corner, spotting a woman lying on the ground.

He thought, strangely, wasn’t there usually a lazy bum lying there? Wasn’t it the spot of a lazy bum? Why a woman now?

But these were only musings, his gaze shifted briefly then returned, after all this had nothing to do with him, no reason to care about such matters.

The boss prepared to leave, but Hao Jian stopped him, inquired about the price, then pulled out money to pay, telling the boss not to bother returning change.

The boss, happy and smiling, left. Perhaps too honest to share pleasantries, only said thanks, then departed imdiately.

Hao Jian then handed the packaged noodles to the girl, saying, “These should be enough for you two!”

The girl imdiately took the packages from Hao Jian’s hands, rushed towards her mother’s direction.

Watching, Hao Jian didn’t know why, but he followed. Usually, he wouldn’t do such things, wouldn’t follow, but sohow this ti he did, following impetuously.

The girl took the packaged noodles, walked to the woman, shook the noodles in front of her. Seeing, the previously listless looking like dead woman’s eyes shone and she sat up abruptly, seized a portion from the girl’s hands, not bothering to open, hurriedly tearing the package. Skipping chopsticks, grabbed it with her hands, stuffing mouthfuls, hardly swallowing, frantically stuffing, desperately stuffing, a box of noodles quickly devoured.

This mont, seeing her mother eating, the girl’s face showed joy, and she opened a bowl of noodles, skipping chopsticks, grabbed and ate with her hands, evident of how hungry she was, hungry to the point of forgetting what tasting food felt like, like her mother shoving mouthfuls desperately, choking herself, patting her chest, and continuing, so quickly resolving a bowl ant for minutes in less than seconds.

The girl was too hungry, yet didn’t move until her mother did; as her mother opened another box, she did too, hastily eating.

Soon they finished another box, unclear how long they’d been not eating, the eating disorderly and ugly, but for those truly near death from hunger, eating was bliss, eating manners were irrelevant, nonexistent words.

The woman’s eating wasn’t disregarding manners, but shoving mouthfuls greedily.
