Chapter 1608: Chapter 1468: Rescue from a Million Monsters
After the City Lord and several generals left, Mu Qingyi, looking at Chu Mu’s stern face, asked in a low voice, “Are you angry?”
Chu Mu indeed seed a bit frightening just now, especially to those who had never seen Chu Mu before. As long as Chu Mu spoke with a bit of harshness, they couldn’t bear it ntally; after all, the Soul Immortal level Soul Sense was much stronger than that of ordinary Soul Pet Masters.
“No,” Chu Mu shook his head.
Chu Mu had no reason to be angry with these people. What angered Chu Mu was that they even had the audacity to criticize his wedding with Ye Qingzi.
In Chu Mu’s eyes, even if all the people of New Moon Land died, as long as it wasn’t soone he cared about among them, he would still proceed with the wedding amidst the bloodshed.
From the beginning, Chu Mu had made his identity clear; he was rely a cultivator. Becoming a king was due to others’ esteem; his willingness to protect New Moon Land was because the people he cared about wanted to protect it.
He never saw himself as a savior; sotis, he seed even more ruthless than so villains. If the people of New Moon Land saw him as a kind king, they were bound to be disappointed.
“I almost thought you would leave them to die,” Mu Qingyi said. “Even if you think saving them isn’t your duty, you shouldn’t say it out loud. After all, you are a king now, and such words can be very hurtful.”
Mu Qingyi knew well that a king did not need to apologize.
“I’m a straightforward person, and I need these people to understand that,” said Chu Mu.
“You really are an oddity,” Mu Qingyi, possessing a kind heart herself, couldn’t compel Chu Mu to share that trait.
“Abnormal Human,” Chu Mu corrected.
“Try to rescue those who are trapped in the Outer and Middle City, even if just for my sake. You said you care only about those you care about, so do I count as part of that list?” Mu Qingyi asked seriously, looking into Chu Mu’s eyes.
“I suppose,” Chu Mu thought again of Mu Qingyi’s sudden kiss and glanced at her rosy lips, feeling flustered, he quickly shifted his gaze.
“Either I count or I don’t—what do you an by I suppose?” Mu Qingyi pressed, sowhat aggressively.
Chu Mu was startled. What was wrong with Mu Qingyi today? She usually avoided such topics; why had she beco so direct lately?
Chu Mu, now a married man, found it difficult to answer when queried by a woman about such ambiguous matters.
“Oh, oh, they’re here. I’m going to rescue people,” Chu Mu swiftly changed the subject.
Mu Qingyi pursed her lips and said with noble chilliness, “And you claim to be a straightforward person?”
Chu Mu pretended not to hear and leaped from the City Tower to the spacious city walls.
Bing Li had brought over 30 people, not the 40 she ntioned. They all looked sowhat tired, having certainly exerted themselves in the previous defensive battle.
These Dominator-level powerhouses, seeing Chu Mu, brightened up with exhausted admiration and respectfully greeted him with a simple bow.
“King Chu, that Ghost Do King is your Soul Pet, right?” said a Soul Controller who appeared to be about Chu Mu’s age. You could feel his admiration and reverence for Chu Mu.
With the Ghost Do King standing tall, its presence alone deterred the Ice Mountain Monsters from advancing, feeling as if a single Soul Pet could protect an entire city, a power enviable to all.
“With it here, the city will surely be safe,” another Soul Controller rank mber remarked.
“We are about to enter the Ice Mountain Monster Legion; it will be quite dangerous, everyone be ntally prepared,” Chu Mu advised the group of Dominator-level powerhouses.
“With King Chu leading us, what is there to fear?” said the young Soul Pet Master who spoke first.
“Yes, those who were afraid did not co; only those unafraid are here,” others displayed no sign of fear.
Most individuals who have reached the Dominator level had experienced nurous life-and-death trials; perhaps for them, rescuing people from a horde of monsters was also a chance for self-improvent.
“City Lord Bing Li, you stay in the city to coordinate with Mu Qingyi in defending,” Chu Mu glanced at City Lord Bing Li, explaining to her.
Bing Li, too, wanted to join the rescue as her brother was trapped in the Middle City. However, since King Chu had not permitted her to go, she naturally could not leave on her own. With the Inner City now crowded and restless, as the City Lord, she indeed had many tasks to attend to.
Defending the city and diving into a monster horde for a rescue were two entirely different concepts; defending at least provided barriers, fortresses, city walls, plants, and many other defensive asures. In a confrontation with the Ice Mountain Monsters, unless the defenses were broken, the casualties would not be overly severe.
However, venturing into the monster horde for a rescue was definitely a life-and-death matter, as everyone would face the predicant of being surrounded by tens of thousands of Ice Mountain Monsters. Without absolute strength, one simply dared not rashly stride into such danger.
This is why Chu Mu only selected Dominator-level powerhouses.
Beneath the city walls, thirty-four Dominator-level powerhouses followed Chu Mu into the chaotic middle city.
The middle city was almost in ruins, with occasional buildings about to collapse, and crawling with Ice Mountain Monsters.
In the sky, countless Ice Mountain Monster Birds circled, their calls harsh and piercing.
“We will split up and act separately. Each of you should rescue people based on your own strength, and once you reach your limit, no matter how many people are trapped in the sa place, you must return to the inner city and bring those people to a safe place first,” Chu Mu instructed everyone.
Rescuing people was really harder than killing because after extracting people from a dire situation, these Dominator-level powerhouses also had to navigate through the ruins of the middle city, swarming with Ice Mountain Monsters, avoiding large swarms trying to attack the inner city, and return to the inner city.
Those with weaker abilities are indeed a burden, and it is understandable if so of the 40 Dominator-level powerhouses dare not undertake such dangerous tasks.
“If any of you are surrounded, imdiately send a signal to , and I will co to help as soon as possible,” Chu Mu continued.
Everyone nodded, and with Chu Mu, an Immortal-level powerhouse providing assurance, they felt more confident in the rescue mission.
The thirty-plus Dominator-level powerhouses spread out, each maneuvering their Soul Pets swiftly through the ruins of the city, using their perception to search for hidden survivors.
Many corpses were scattered throughout the middle city, the original streets and houses were soaked with blood spreading across the icy ground, splattering the white snowy city with nurous striking red patches.
Many Ice Mountain Monsters wandering in the middle city kept sniffing around. They seed to know that there were people hiding in this vast city; to them, these humans were like small, delicious rabbits, ready to be found and feasted upon.
In so corners of the city, cries of agony occasionally erupted.
Clearly, so people who didn’t hide well enough were discovered and beca food for the Ice Mountain Monsters.
Those hiding in the ruins shuddered each ti they heard these screams. They didn’t know when the sa tragic fate might befall them.
They knew they would die, but none had the courage to end their lives themselves— who would want their precious bodies torn apart by the monsters’ claws and then gnawed upon…
“Zhuo Wan Sister, I saw that man with the Black Dream Beast again,” the weak teenager said with so excitent.
“He must be an expert from Wanxiang City who ca to support us!” Zhuo Wan’s eyes brightened, feeling much reassured.
“What good does support do? They can only protect the inner city. We are surely dood; no one will co to rescue us. Even if an Elental Corps was sent from Wanxiang City to clear the enemy quickly, the elental destruction might fall on us, exterminating us along with those monsters,” the trapped middle-aged man said.
After the middle-aged man finished speaking, the teenager’s eyes dimd, looking at the injured and weary Zhuo Wan and said gloomily, “Is that so, Zhuo Wan Sister?”
Zhuo Wan remained silent; she couldn’t rule out this possibility.
Sending people to rescue these scattered civilians would only result in more deaths unless the Ice Mountain Monsters withdrew voluntarily. Even if reinforcents arrived, bombing sufficient to impact them would annihilate them along with the Ice Mountain Monsters.
Seeing Zhuo Wan not speaking, the teenager guessed in part. He lost any interest in peering outside.
He slumped against the ashy wall, looking at the few injured people beside him, and for a mont, silence engulfed the people in this ruined cavern.
“Being able to move freely among this million-strong group of Ice Mountain Monsters, I wonder who that man with the Black Dream Beast is,” the teenager mused to himself.
“Moving through the group of monsters?” Zhuo Wan was stunned and asked.
“Not moving through, but walking directly in the air. I don’t know why, but neither the Ice Mountain Monsters on the ground nor the Ice Mountain Monster Birds in the sky dare to approach him,” the teenager said.
“Hmph, how is that possible? There are millions of Ice Mountain Monsters; they could drown a person with their spit. How could they possibly not attack the person you’re talking about?” the middle-aged man said.
“It’s true; those monsters just wouldn’t attack him, I saw him pass through!” the teenager beca upset.
Hadn’t he seen it with his own eyes?
“This world doesn’t have soone so strong, your eyes must be tricking you,” the middle-aged man said.
“Don’t believe ? Co see for yourself. If I’m lying to you, I’ll crawl out now and feed myself to those monsters!” the teenager said angrily.
This middle-aged man always spoke demoralizing words, crushing everyone’s hope for survival. Naturally, the teenager was very dissatisfied with him. (.)
