Chapter 40: Chapter 39 Drawing the Snake Out of Its Hole

In an instant, Ye Fan recalled the issue. He imdiately called Fang Nan, who sent over the files. As expected, a playing card was among them.

He said, "This Card Master must still be in Jiangning City because he has an unfinished target!"

"Sister-in-law?" they both asked at the sa ti.

"Exactly," Ye Fan said, his voice laced with venom. "Now we have to find a way to draw him out. I’m going to tear him to pieces!"

The fury in his voice was that of the King of Heaven, and both n shuddered.

Heavenly Defect said, "Boss, this is actually simple. He only acts when he’s certain of success. As long as he’s sure he can succeed, he’ll definitely show himself."

Ye Fan thought for a mont, then said, "You’re right. It looks like we’ll have to lure him out. I’ll discuss this with Qingxue tomorrow!"

"By the way, there’s another important reason I called you back," Ye Fan continued. "I told you before that prior to my ti on the African battlefield, I was frad by a powerful organization. Sooner or later, I will have to confront them. To do that, you must help

take control of Jiangning’s underworld in a short amount of ti. Only then will I stand a chance against them!"

"Alright, leave it to !" Earthly Defect imdiately declared.

He spoke only for himself, ignoring Heavenly Defect, who was instantly annoyed. "Boss," Heavenly Defect said to Ye Fan, "a simple task like this is more than enough for

alone. Earthly Defect is clumsy; he’ll definitely ss things up!"

"Clumsy? How about a one-on-one!" Earthly Defect retorted, displeased.

"A one-on-one it is! You think I’m afraid of you?"

The two were about to co to blows. It couldn’t be helped; they bickered constantly, yet they were the best of friends. For them, this was an indispensable part of life.

Just then, Ye Fan said, "Alright, count

in. It’s been a long ti since I got to stretch my legs, and I’m getting a little rusty. Co on, the three of us can have a light spar. We’ll stop at first touch."

"Boss, we were just joking!" the two n said quickly. As for stopping at first touch—to hell with that! It wasn’t the first ti they’d fallen for that line. Ye Fan wouldn’t be satisfied until their bones were practically rattling apart.

"I’m serious, it’s just until first touch," Ye Fan said. "You two co at

together. If you can’t handle it, just call it quits!"

"Boss, we’re really sorry," they pleaded, on the verge of tears.

They feared nothing more than a mischievous Ye Fan. In their minds, a mischievous Ye Fan was the most terrifying person in the world.

"Co on! I’m serious," Ye Fan said. "Don’t feel any pressure."

The two saw that a brutal beating was inevitable and imdiately prepared to strike.

Earthly Defect, who specialized in head-on combat, moved forward to engage Ye Fan, attempting to overwhelm him with his burly physique. anwhile, Heavenly Defect, an expert in sneak attacks, appeared by Ye Fan’s side in the blink of an eye. After all, both of them were experts who had reached the Postnatal realm.

Ye Fan made his move. He threw a punch at Earthly Defect. The blow wasn’t particularly powerful, but Earthly Defect still grimaced in pain. Heavenly Defect, who had intended to use a deadly scissor kick, was instead forced into a painful split by Ye Fan.

"AH!"

The two exchanged a look and pretended to be seriously injured, howling on the ground. They were truly a pair of skilled actors.

"I haven’t called a stop yet," Ye Fan said. "Continue!"

Then he attacked again. It was a brutal sight; Earthly Defect was already spitting blood from his mouth, and Heavenly Defect’s face had turned even paler.

At that point, they quickly cried out, "Boss, we really can’t take any more!"

"No, no, no, this isn’t your limit yet!" Ye Fan laughed.

The two n imdiately begged for rcy, their situation truly pathetic. So much for stopping at first touch. The sparring session finally ended, and they learned their lesson: never act tough in front of Ye Fan again. The price was just too steep.

The next day, Ye Fan told Su Qingxue about his plan. She said, "As long as we can bring the murderer to justice, I’m willing to do anything!"

Her gaze was firm, her judgnt clouded by hatred. It was a natural reaction; anyone would feel that way, especially when the one who died was their closest relative.

Ye Fan nodded and said, "Alright, just do as I say!"

That afternoon, Su Qingxue and Alice walked along the lakeshore. They were nervous, knowing the Card Master could appear at any mont. This was the perfect location, as the area was deserted, and any passersby were just ordinary civilians. Ye Fan, Heavenly Defect, and Earthly Defect disguised themselves as street vendors, lying in ambush nearby.

Su Qingxue and Alice chatted and laughed by the water’s edge.

Suddenly, a figure burst from the water, charging straight for Su Qingxue. A strange, gleaming knife aid right for her heart. Seeing this, Su Qingxue found herself with no room to retreat.

In the nick of ti, Alice’s hand shot out and grabbed the J-shaped blade, and blood imdiately gushed from her palm.

Even Ye Fan hadn’t expected the Card Master to erge from the lake. It was completely outside his calculations. The three of them rushed forward, but the Card Master quickly fled. Ye Fan managed to land a palm strike on him before he leaped back into the water.

"Damn it!"

Ye Fan was furious. He had let him get away, which ant the plan had failed.

"Quick, save Alice!" Su Qingxue cried out in a panic.

Ye Fan imdiately scooped Alice into his arms, and they all hurried to the hospital.

Alice was rushed into ergency treatnt. A short ti later, the doctor ca out. "Her injuries are severe, but her life is not in danger," he announced.

Everyone sighed in relief.

Gathering by her hospital bed, Ye Fan said guiltily, "I’m sorry."

"Yezi, you did your best," Alice reminded him sensibly. "But this assassin is too cunning. He’s strong, and his weapon is terrifying! You must be very careful!"

Ye Fan nodded.

"We can’t take any more risks," Su Qingxue said quickly.

"No. He took a palm strike from , which has worsened his injuries. He can’t have gotten far," he said coldly. "In this world, not many people can withstand a full-force blow from my palm!"

Seeing his determination, Su Qingxue nodded. She stayed behind to take care of Alice. Worried the Card Master might attempt a sneak attack at the hospital, Ye Fan left Heavenly Defect and Earthly Defect to stand guard.

Ye Fan began organizing the information and had Fang Nan check the surveillance footage. He finally locked onto a target at a private dical facility. Calling it a hospital was an exaggeration; it was just a small clinic.

Inside, the elderly doctor, a retired physician who had opened this small practice, examined the wound. "This injury is terrible," he said. "The impact has damaged your internal organs. You must be transferred to a major hospital, or your life will be in danger."

The Card Master looked up, his eyes dark, startling the old man. He then drew his eerie, strange knife and pressed it against the doctor’s neck. "If you can’t heal ," he threatened, "I’ll take your life!"

"I really can’t heal this!" the elderly doctor said. Though terrified, he was telling the truth. The wound was clearly in the shape of a palm, and he couldn’t imagine what kind of person possessed the power to nearly kill soone with a single strike.

The Card Master coughed up a mouthful of blood and prepared to kill the old doctor.

Just then, a figure appeared in a flash, pushed the doctor aside, and left the Card Master cornered against the wall, on the defensive.

The elderly doctor was stunned. What incredible speed! He hadn’t seen the newcor’s figure clearly at all and briefly wondered if the man was a ghost. Indeed, at that mont, Ye Fan had moved with a speed that surpassed his usual limits, a speed faster than a bullet.

"He’s a psychotic killer," Ye Fan told the old doctor. "You should leave now."

"Okay!" The old doctor wiped the sweat from his brow and hurried out.

The Card Master’s face was grim as he remained wary of Ye Fan.

"Let’s see where you run to this ti," Ye Fan said.

The Card Master moved quickly. His strange knife and ghostly movent technique were terrifying to behold, but his injuries slowed him down. He was sent flying by one of Ye Fan’s punches, after which he leaped through the window and fled.

"Thinking of escaping? Not so easy!"

Ye Fan gave chase, once again moving at a speed beyond his limits. He reached a dense forest on the outskirts of the city and blocked the Card Master’s path.

The Card Master was on guard as Ye Fan spoke. "Who sent you? If you don’t talk, I’ll show you the aning of despair."

The Card Master’s expression was grim. "There aren’t many people who can injure

this badly with a single palm strike," he said. "Are you the King of Heaven?"

He recalled that the King of Heaven had recently returned to Jiangning City. And this was Jiangning City. The only person who could catch him so easily and injure him so severely had to be the King of Heaven.

"Since you know I’m the King of Heaven," Ye Fan said, "you should also know that your ti is up."

"I’d dare to cross the King of Heaven himself!" the Card Master sneered.
