Chapter 269: Chapter 268: Instant Face-Slapping
"I hope you don’t end up on your knees begging
later!" Ye Fan said with disdain.
To ease the awkward atmosphere, the manager of the jewelry store stepped in. Handling these situations was her forte. The manager, a woman in her thirties, understood the rules of the workplace and knew how to read people. Initially, she wanted to send the two of them away to avoid disrupting business, but she abandoned that plan after getting a better look at them.
"President Zhang! What brings you to our store today? My apologies for the poor reception!" she said, imdiately fawning over the man in the suit.
President Zhang explained, "This young man wants to buy your pearl necklace and made a bet with . If he can’t afford it, he’ll kneel before . If he can, I’ll buy out all the jewelry in this mall!"
"Then President Zhang is sure to win," the manager laughed. Turning to Ye Fan, she spoke condescendingly, "You have so nerve betting with President Zhang. Don’t be so hot-headed, young man!" Seeing how shabbily Ye Fan was dressed, she imdiately began to judge him by his appearance.
Ye Fan retorted, "Isn’t your company’s motto to prioritize service? Why are you so quick to look down on people?"
"While our company does prioritize service," the manager mocked, "we also have to make sure so broke loser isn’t just here to cause trouble."
Ye Fan knew he had to show his hand, or this would go nowhere. Beside him, Mu Wanxin felt a pang of guilt. If I hadn’t co to the jewelry store, this wouldn’t be happening.
"Fine," Ye Fan said coolly. "I’ll rember that. I’ll be sure to file a complaint against you later."
"Be my guest!" the manager retorted disdainfully. She had weathered plenty of storms in her ti. Why would she fear so empty threat from a kid?
At that mont, President Zhang spoke up. "Let’s get started! Stop wasting my ti. I want to see if you can actually afford it today!" He looked at Ye Fan with contempt, deliberately making a scene for the crowd to enjoy and to showcase his own wealth.
Then, Ye Fan casually pulled out a purple-gold credit card. The mont he produced it, the manager’s expression changed. Working in high-end sales, she instantly recognized the card. It was a Purple Gold Card. In all of Divine Land, only a handful of tycoons on the wealth charts possessed one. As far as she knew, the only person in all of Jiangning who had one was the formidable Su Qingxue.
She grew panicked. She had just mocked Ye Fan to curry favor with President Zhang. If he really filed a complaint, her job would be forfeit, and she would struggle to find work anywhere else.
President Zhang, however, just scoffed. "A Purple Gold credit card? First ti I’ve ever seen one. Kid, stop trying to fool people and just kneel down and apologize to
now!" He was convinced that such a card couldn’t possibly exist in this day and age. He had no idea that the Purple Gold credit card was universally honored by all banks—private, state-owned, and even the major global institutions. Even they had to treat it with the utmost gravity. The card was just that powerful.
The manager’s attitude flipped in an instant. She turned on President Zhang, mocking him, "You country bumpkin! You don’t even recognize a Purple Gold Card? Get ready to buy all the jewelry here!" Even though Ye Fan hadn’t swiped the card yet, she had already switched sides. Ye Fan was disgusted by such a fickle woman.
President Zhang was dumbfounded. The manager had fawned over him and even shared his bed more than once, yet now she was speaking to him with such hostility. He was about to ask what was going on when Ye Fan took the card and swiped it. The transaction was approved instantly. When President Zhang saw the receipt in Ye Fan’s hand, his face fell. He never expected this outco and sucked in a sharp breath. The guy wasn’t posturing; he was the real deal. He had just spent millions without batting an eye.
Only the manager truly understood. Holders of the Purple Gold Card had more money than they could ever spend—to them, money was just a string of numbers. While many tycoons in Jiangning wouldn’t flinch at spending a few million, no one present expected the shabbily dressed Ye Fan to casually swipe for such a sum.
Mu Wanxin already knew Ye Fan’s background, so she wasn’t surprised that a few million was nothing to him. Still, she felt responsible. It’s my fault we’re in this ss.
President Zhang imdiately lost his nerve. "I didn’t think you could actually afford it, kid. Alright, I admit defeat. I’ll definitely buy all the jewelry here another day!"
Just as he was about to turn and leave, Ye Fan caught him, placing a light hand on his shoulder that rendered him immobile. "You said you’d settle it here and now," Ye Fan said calmly. "I hope you don’t go back on your word."
Pressured by Ye Fan’s intimidating presence, President Zhang broke out in a cold sweat and shot the manager a aningful look for help. The manager, however, chid in, "Of course, a bet like this must be settled on the spot."
Unexpectedly, instead of helping him, she twisted the knife, which gave President Zhang a splitting headache. Is this the sa woman who was flirting with
just monts ago?
The surrounding crowd watched eagerly, keen to see how the drama would unfold.
President Zhang stamred, "Uh, could you give
a few days’ grace? I can’t really co up with that much money right now!"
"No," Ye Fan snapped. "Pay up, or kneel!"
President Zhang didn’t know what to do. He was completely on the back foot, his current pathetic state a far cry from his earlier bravado.
The commotion grew so large that the general manager of the entire mall finally appeared. He was a mber of the Shangjing Ye Family, albeit from a collateral branch. Even so, a mber of a collateral branch of the Ye Family was considered a force to be reckoned with in the secular world.
When he saw Ye Fan, his expression changed instantly. Of course he knew who Ye Fan was—the Young Master of the Shangjing Ye Family. He imdiately bowed respectfully.
The crowd was shocked. The general manager himself was bowing to this young man. Just who is he? This jewelry store is one of the top three luxury brands in the world! Everyone knew that their regional general manager oversaw several stores and that tycoons worth hundreds of millions were nothing in his eyes. Yet he was bowing to Ye Fan. No one expected this young man to command such deference, and they were all desperately curious about his true identity.
Ye Fan turned to the general manager. "This guy made a bet with . He said that if I could afford this pearl necklace, he would buy everything in the store. I won, but now he wants to welsh on the deal. As for your manager," he continued, his voice cold, "your store has built its reputation on its good na for years, but today she judged a custor by their appearance. Is that your company’s philosophy?"
The still-charming manager was instantly filled with terror, and then despair. When Ye Fan said those words, she knew her dismissal was set in stone.
The general manager was furious. He turned to her and said, "You don’t need to co to work tomorrow. No, you can get out right now."
"General manager, please give
another chance!" the manager begged.
"I gave you many chances, and you didn’t cherish them," the general manager said coldly. "Don’t bla
for being heartless. Furthermore, I will inform all companies that partner with our group of your professional misconduct!"
Instantly, the manager fell to her knees, begging the general manager. She couldn’t care about her pride anymore. This notice would blacklist her, leaving her with no opportunities.
The general manager said with disdain, "You’re begging the wrong person."
Understanding his aning, the manager imdiately turned and began pleading with Ye Fan.
"Get out," Ye Fan snapped. "And don’t let
see you again."
The manager scrambled away in disgrace. The surrounding custors were stunned. To avoid offending this person, the general manager had fired his own manager on the spot. Incredible. This person must have an extrely high status for even the general manager to fear him.
