Hugo and the cool girl were still standing there, locked in so kind of silent, intense face-off, both of them smiling like they were in on so kind of inside joke that nobody else in the world would understand.

The neon lights above flickered slightly, casting a golden glow over her smooth skin, and for a brief mont, Hugo had a ridiculous thought.

Was this fate? Destiny? Had he just t his dream girl in a night club after getting publicly humiliated?

Would there co a day where he says; And this kids, is how I t your mother?

Nah. No way.

But then again…

Hugo squinted slightly at her, watching as her lips twitched like she was thinking the exact sa thing he was thinking.

Yeah. This girl knew exactly what was going on here.

And that’s when, out of nowhere, they both burst out laughing. Again.

Like, full-on, barking laughter, right there in the bar area, with no warning.

Hugo had no idea why he was laughing, but the way she threw her head back, her silver-streaked hair catching the city lights, made him feel like they were in so kind of stupidly romantic French movie where the main characters just "vibed" without needing an explanation.

Finally, wiping away a nonexistent tear, Hugo tilted his head. "Alright, what’s so funny? What’s going on in that dangerous little brain of yours?"

She smirked, eyes dancing with amusent. "I actually like you."

Hugo blinked.

Oh.

Oh!

Aweso!

He felt a strange surge of victory swell in his chest, but he kept it cool, nodding slowly like he totally expected that response. "Good choice."

He couldn’t make it obvious that he was doing his happy dance ntally and screaming like a fool, could he?

She laughed again, shaking her head. "Confident, aren’t you?"

Hugo grinned, leaning in just slightly. "You haven’t even seen the half of it."

Her smirk widened. "Mmm, I think I like this confidence. What’s your na?"

Hugo didn’t even hesitate. He gave her the smoothest, most legendary reply of his entire existence!

Straight from the divine manual of pick up!

"Call Daddy."

She froze.

And then, she grinned.

A slow, impressed, mischievous kind of grin. "Damn. Smooth."

Hugo nearly ascended to heaven right then and there.

But he wasn’t done yet. He leaned back, smirking like he’d just won a million-dollar bet. "And what do I call you, then? Since we’re skipping the formalities."

She tilted her head, studying him for a second before finally replying, "Celeste."

Hugo raised an eyebrow. "Celeste?"

She nodded. "Celeste Beaumont."

The na was elegant. Fancy. It rolled off the tongue like a na ant to be whispered in candlelit rooms.

Hugo narrowed his eyes. "Wait… is that French?"

Celeste smirked. "Oui."

Oh, he was about to have fun with this.

A French beauty!

Hugo crossed his arms, shifting his weight dramatically. "Alright, so let get this straight. You’re French. Which ans… you eat snails?"

She rolled her eyes. "Oh my God. Stereotypes? Really?"

Hugo grinned. "You surrender easily?"

Celeste’s smirk sharpened. "Wanna find out?"

Hugo definitely did.

But he wasn’t about to die tonight.

So, he raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright. No war cris tonight. I respect my French queen."

She chuckled, then, instead of walking away like he half-expected since he had been ignored so much in one night that his confidence was scuba diving, she sat down right beside him.

Hugo felt unreasonably victorious.

Celeste leaned back against the bench, stretching her legs as she glanced toward the bar behind them.

She raised a hand lazily, signaling the bartender, who, upon seeing her, froze mid-motion.

The man was awestruck. Love-struck.

Hugo didn’t bla him.

In fact, Hugo had crazy thoughts about how, if he wasn’t careful, this bartender might start fighting him for Celeste’s attention.

But instead of charging her, the bartender grinned like a fool and nodded. "On the house."

Damn.

Hugo had to laugh internally. The power of a pretty woman.

Celeste just winked, picking up her drink as if she expected nothing less.

Hugo turned to her, eyes twinkling with curiosity. "So, tell sothing. Where do you stay? What do you even do? You seem like the type to rob banks for fun."

Celeste gave him a teasing smirk. "Why don’t you tell ?"

Hugo leaned in slightly, resting his chin on his palm. "Oh, I’d love to, but I’d probably end up describing you as an international spy or a runaway heiress, and I wouldn’t want to inflate your ego."

Celeste actually blushed a little at that. Just the faintest hint of pink.

She cleared her throat, shaking her head. "Okay, you’re actually dangerous. Like, really smooth."

Hugo grinned. "You noticed?"

Celeste rolled her eyes but smiled anyway. "You do this a lot, don’t you?"

Hugo smirked. "Flirt with insanely gorgeous French won? Not as often as I’d like."

Celeste let out a small laugh, shaking her head. "You’re sothing else."

Hugo leaned back, feeling completely in his elent. He hadn’t planned for this, but now that he was here, he was thriving.

Celeste was cool, funny, and had just the right amount of mischief in her eyes to keep him completely intrigued.

And then, just when he thought this night couldn’t get any better, Celeste suddenly tilted her head, looking at him thoughtfully.

"You busy tomorrow?"

Hugo froze.

Oh.

Oh.

She wanted to see him again?

This never happened.

Usually, Hugo was the one making the next move, but now, Celeste was the one putting him on the spot.

Hugo blinked, then slowly grinned. "Are you asking on a date?"

Celeste smirked. "Are you saying yes?"

Hugo exhaled dramatically. "Let check my schedule." He made a show of pretending to think. "Yep. Wide open. Let’s do it."

Celeste chuckled. "Good. Don’t be late."

Hugo grinned. Oh, this was going to be fun.

It seed his luck was back and it ca full force! He was truly unstoppable!
