Chapter 276: The News of the Annulled Engagent
Two days later, Su Lin took a day off from work to spend ti with Zhao Yanyan and Qin Jiuyue at Rainforest Corporation, mainly to accompany Zhao Yanyan.
Due to the upcoming launch of a new smartphone, Su Lin had been mostly at the company, and it had been several days since he had last seen Zhao Yanyan. Currently, Zhao Yanyan was lounging in the office’s rest area, her slender legs draped over Su Lin, and a few sweat beads glistening in her hair.
“I thought you had forgotten about with all your work at Su Corp,” Zhao Yanyan whispered softly.
Su Lin chuckled, “How could I forget about my Yanyan? You know how busy it’s been at the company recently. I barely had ti. That’s why I took a day off just to see you.”
Zhao Yanyan playfully punched him, “At least you rember to visit. That shows you have so conscience.”
Su Lin gave a wry smile, “I really have been busy. It’ll ease up once this phase is over.”
“Right~!!”
Thinking about the upcoming university life, Zhao Yanyan felt sowhat excited, especially since Su Lin would be there. Just as they were enjoying a cozy mont, Su Lin’s phone rang.
“Hello~! Old Bai, what happened for you to call today?” Su Lin answered, surprised to see Bai Qikun on the caller ID.
Bai Qikun’s robust voice ca through, “Hey! Can’t I call you if there’s nothing urgent?”
Su Lin laughed, “Of course, you can. But I know you, Ols Bai. You wouldn’t call unless it’s sothing important, probably a big issue.”
“You’ve only known a few days and claim to understand ? Well, you’re not wrong this ti; indeed, there’s sothing big to tell you.”
Su Lin patted Zhao Yanyan, who then sat up as Su Lin straightened and asked seriously, “What is it, Old Bai? What’s so important that you needed to tell personally?”
“Heh! It’s actually good news for you. Just received word from the capital: Xiao Feiyu’s engagent with Liu Shiwen is officially off. Xiao Feiyu himself went to the Liu family’s head in the capital, and I heard he got kicked out so hard he nearly lost his life.”
Hearing Bai Qikun’s unusually emotional tone, Su Lin laughed, “You sound quite happy about it?”
“Heh! I have a bit of a past with soone from the Liu family, so yes, I’m pleased. This news couldn’t be better.”
Su Lin was surprised, “I didn’t expect you to have a history with the Liu family head. I’m curious, can you share more?”
Bai Qikun’s cheeks reddened slightly, “It’s all old sesa and rotten millet. Why bring up the past now? But you, you seem unsurprised. Tell honestly, did you have a hand in ssing up Xiao Feiyu’s marriage?”
Although Bai Qikun was asking, his tone was certain. The engagent, though not imdiately finalized, was about to be, and then suddenly Xiao Feiyu withdrew. Bai Qikun wouldn’t believe for a second that Su Lin wasn’t involved.
In Donghai, the only person capable of turning things around so quickly was Su Lin. He truly couldn’t fathom how Su Lin had managed to reverse Xiao Feiyu’s nearly set deal.
Of course, Su Lin wouldn’t admit to these machinations, even though he knew Bai Qikun wouldn’t spread the word, he preferred to remain noncommittal.
Su Lin responded casually, “Now that Xiao Feiyu has lost such a powerful ally, I expect he’ll be desperate when he returns to Donghai.”
Hearing this, Bai Qikun grew serious, nodding, “True, although I don’t know Xiao Feiyu well, it’s clear enough. Losing the alliance with the Liu family cuts off all his retreats. Finding another strong family to ally with in the short term will be impossible, so he might indeed beco desperate.”
Xiao Feiyu had already called off two engagents, one with Jiang Ruoxi and now with Liu Shiwen. Even as a scion of the strongest family in Modu, his reputation was now tainted, making another prestigious family alliance unlikely. Only lesser families might still consider it, but they would be of no use to Su Lin.
“Alright, when Xiao Feiyu returns to Donghai, I’ll keep a close watch on him. Su Lin, you better deal with this ticking bomb soon, to prevent further complications. At this crucial mont, we can’t afford chaos in Donghai,” Bai Qikun advised.
Su Lin nodded, “Don’t worry, Old Bai. I was thinking the sa. It’s ti to resolve this once and for all.”
He hadn’t really sched against Xiao Feiyu; with his current capabilities, he didn’t fear any of the major dostic families, so there was no need for elaborate plots—direct action would suffice. Xiao Feiyu, having returned from the capital severely injured, Su Lin figured he’d soon be back in Donghai.
Others might not know, but he was aware that Xiao Feiyu possessed a Seven Revolutions Resurrection Pill.
“He’ll definitely use the pill imdiately to recover, then sneak back to Donghai.”
“Old Bai, I suspect Xiao Feiyu will pull a feigned escape tactic. If I’m not mistaken, he’ll return to Donghai today. You might want to have soone check on that.”
“Today? Impossible,” Bai Qikun expressed disbelief. “After that kick from the Liu family, even if Xiao Feiyu doesn’t spend a year bedridden, he’ll need at least a month to recover, not to ntion the lingering injuries. How could he possibly return to Donghai today?”
Su Lin sighed softly, “You find it improbable because you don’t know him. Just have soone keep an eye out, that’s all.”
Donghai was his territory, and asking Bai Qikun to monitor might be asking too much; perhaps it was better to involve the Qin and Li families, along with Luo Sihai. Combined, their resources and reach should prevent Xiao Feiyu from sneaking back unnoticed.
“Alright, I’ll have soone on it,” Bai Qikun finally conceded.
Su Lin shook his head silently, sensing Bai Qikun hadn’t fully taken his words seriously. It was clear he thought Su Lin was exaggerating; Xiao Feiyu was likely still in critical care, possibly even undergoing surgery, making a covert return to Donghai implausible.
Su Lin didn’t press further. If Bai Qikun didn’t believe him, so be it. It was better to handle things himself.
