On her quest for a weapon, He Jinxia also needed to use a special prop, a green plastic longsword!
This was specifically for post-production processing!
Now, the crew was shooting a scene where He Jinxia, playing the role of Yuyin, touched an ancient vase-like object. Suddenly, she shuddered and opened her eyes, feeling the "telepathy" that Bai Ze talked about!
Yuyin, suppressing the excitent in her heart, quickly asked the shopkeeper, "How much for this vase?"
The shopkeeper gestured with one finger.
Yuyin’s eyes lit up, "Just one copper coin, so cheap!"
The shopkeeper’s expression beca rigid as he hastily said, "Who told you it’s one copper coin? It’s ten taels of silver!"
Yuyin quickly protected the vase in her hands and snorted at him, "Ten taels then, ten taels it is. But why did you gesture one finger? Who knows how much that ans if you don’t say anything!"
The onlookers gathered around, chiming in, "Miss, don’t be fooled, this vase only costs one tael of silver, it doesn’t need ten. With ten you could buy ten vases."
"Yeah, the vases on this street are a bit pricey. You could go to another street where you can buy one for just fifty copper coins."
"Miss, don’t buy it here, this shopkeeper is dishonest, he’s always deceiving people!"
Hearing this, the shopkeeper glared and hurriedly said, "What deceiving? Did I say I sold it to her for ten taels of silver? I was just speaking offhand, joking around. Can’t a person joke?"
"Okay, okay, move along, you lot who don’t buy and just look. Even after all the looking you haven’t chosen anything. If you want to buy, go to that other street you ntion, don’t just wander around here!"
"Cut, good!"
Director Liu reviewed the footage and felt that the shopkeeper’s actions and expressions when driving people away were still lacking and decided to reshoot that particular scene.
After one more take, the actor seed a bit nervous and perford even worse than the first ti, resulting in yet another retake. Thankfully, the third take finally made the cut.
The shoot was still underway; having driven everyone else off, the shopkeeper was also trying to drive Yuyin away.
But Yuyin, treasuring the vase, refused to leave. Hurriedly, she took out one tael of silver and handed it to the shopkeeper with a beaming smile, "I didn’t co just to look, I ca to buy. Those people said this vase is worth one tael of silver, so here’s one tael!"
The shopkeeper took the one tael of silver, just about to say sothing, when suddenly Director Liu called out "Cut!" with a frown and commanded a reshoot.
The root of the problem still lay with the actor playing the shopkeeper; her performance lacked vividness and character. The shopkeeper was supposed to be both angry and puzzled, yet the director couldn’t see this mix of emotions in her expressions, so he chose to reshoot.
Possibly because of the successive reshoots, the actor started to feel the pressure, and during a few minutes of break ti, she surprisingly began to cry, her eyes rimd with red.
Not daring to speak to anyone, the actress just hung her head, wiping away tears, making sure not to lift her head for fear of being noticed in her vulnerable state.
Regrettably, the sound of her sniffling was rather loud, which ant many people actually knew she was crying.
He Jinxia thought for a mont, then gave Sister Xiao Hua a aningful glance and looked over at the actress crying not far away.
Evidently in tune with her, Cheng Xiaohua understood He Jinxia’s look and knew what she was thinking. She stood up, approached Director Liu, and asked him to give the actors an extra five minutes break, using the excuse of her sore throat.
He Jinxia had no intention of comforting the actress.
There were many people in the crew, and her every move was under scrutiny. He Jinxia did not want her actions to be misinterpreted. Besides, with her current fa and status, she couldn’t afford to do such things.
That was understandable. When you were a newcor to the entertainnt circle, you exchanged experiences with other newcors. When you were an old-tir, you’d only share experiences with those of equal status.
It made no sense for an old-tir to comfort a rookie for no reason. Of course, there were stars who were kind-hearted.
But He Jinxia was not one of them.
If the actress had been crying in front of her, she might have casually offered a few words of encouragent, but the actress was far away and seed not to want others to know she had cried, so Jinxia would not go out of her way to comfort her.
Comforting her could seem like a deliberate attempt to curry favor, which so stars saw as a debasing act.
All He Jinxia could do was to secure an extra five minutes for the actress to compose herself.
If after five minutes she still hadn’t recovered and continued to be scolded by the director and kept making mistakes, Jinxia was out of options.
Cheng Xiaohua returned soon after and looked up to see several extras gathered around the actress, all comforting her.
The actress had already stopped crying and seed to be thanking the people around her.
Cheng Xiaohua shrugged, leaned into Jinxia’s ear, and whispered, "I think she should be more thankful to you. If it weren’t for the extra five minutes you got her, the shooting would have resud already, which would have been tough in her state."
He Jinxia glanced down at the script, her eyes curving into a smile, "No need, I’m used to doing good deeds anonymously."
Cheng Xiaohua muttered, "You say it as if you leave a na for yourself when you do bad deeds."
He Jinxia looked up at her, her smile growing brighter, "Sister Xiao Hua, I—"
Cheng Xiaohua imdiately clamped her mouth shut and made a zipping gesture across her lips, signaling she wouldn’t speak anymore.
Seeing her quick reaction left Jinxia sowhat disappointed. She bowed her head and continued to read the script. Sister Xiao Hua had beco much more astute lately; it had been a long ti since Jinxia had found an excuse to punish her.
What a pity, the clueless Sister Xiao Hua she once toyed with was gone, gone for good~~~
Five minutes later, the scene started shooting again!
This ti, the actress playing the shopkeeper controlled her emotions and facial expressions well, having a seamless interaction with He Jinxia.
After so twists and turns, Yu Jing finally managed to purchase the vase. She planned to find a pond to wash off the mud on the vase. As she walked, suddenly, the vase in her hand started to shake, vibrating incessantly.
To make the scene look more realistic, Director Liu didn’t plan to use special effects here. Instead, he had soone fit a transparent thread over the vase. A crew mber climbed to a higher spot, right above He Jinxia’s head, and shook the thread with a certain force to make the vase move.
He Jinxia held the vase, and the crew mber’s first attempt took a long ti to get the force right.
But because the vase was heavy and far away, the crew mber hadn’t quite caught on and ended up pulling the vase higher and higher, leaving He Jinxia silently looking up at the sky at the... vase.
