Cheng Xiaohua: "Aren’t you supposed to et with fans? I was afraid talking would affect you, I..."
He Jinxia closed her eyes and interrupted, "Enough, don’t say anymore, Sister Xiao Hua. There are things I only say once. When the news about Sheng Yan broke, I was inconvenienced, and I won’t bla you for not telling . But after I finished my performance, you should have told imdiately."
"I am his girlfriend. I should know about his news before anyone else, not be the last to know while everyone else is aware."
Cheng Xiaohua’s la excuse was sothing He Jinxia didn’t even want to hear.
She knew why Sister Xiao Hua didn’t want to tell her; it was true she had been worried about affecting her emotions before, and it was true after as well.
However, it wasn’t because she was worried about affecting her emotions later, but because she feared that if He Jinxia spoke out on Weibo and took sides, it would provoke netizens to curse her and ruin the hard-earned popularity she had cultivated!
Cheng Xiaohua’s lips parted slightly, her face a deep red, "Sorry, Jinxia, I—"
He Jinxia took a deep breath, "No need, don’t say anything. From now on, I want to know everything about Sheng Yan at once. Don’t underestimate ; I’m not soone who is too fragile to handle pressure. Go out and let be alone."
Feeling guilty, Cheng Xiaohua couldn’t face He Jinxia and imdiately turned to leave upon hearing this.
The mont the door closed, He Jinxia added in an even tone—
"There won’t be a next ti."
Cheng Xiaohua’s body trembled slightly, and she responded to the already closed door with a quiet yes.
With Sheng Yan suddenly facing this issue, He Jinxia was no longer in the mood to et her fans.
She called Luo You, quickly arranged for soone to calm the fans waiting outside, then disguised herself and slipped out of the stadium, skipping the after-party altogether.
After successfully leaving and getting into a car, Luo You, still worried, called her.
"Jinxia, where are you going? Let co with you."
He Jinxia spoke softly, "No need. Don’t worry; I won’t do anything rash."
Hearing her lower her voice, Luo You grew even more anxious and asked, "First tell where you are going?"
He Jinxia paused for a mont, then said, "Ho, I want to go ho."
Luo You couldn’t help but roll his eyes on the other end of the phone. How could he believe such an excuse?!
But He Jinxia reminded him of sothing, and he instructed, "I’ll call Aunt He in a bit and tell her you’ll be ho soon. Let know when you get there."
He Jinxia responded listlessly.
After hanging up, she opened WeChat, staring blankly at Sheng Yan’s profile picture.
The texts still displayed ssages from last weekend when she told Sheng Yan not to stress too much, that he was doing great. Sheng Yan had replied with a simple "Okay," and that was where the ssages stopped.
She had been busy filming a weekly drama series, working overti every night. Only after finishing filming and sending off the production for post-processing did she catch her breath. She had barely found so free ti before she rushed to attend Yang Xingxin’s concert.
If Sheng Yan hadn’t suddenly been blasted with diss tracks and negative exposure, He Jinxia might not have realized how long it had been since they last talked.
Snapping back to reality, He Jinxia typed a ssage to Sheng Yan.
He Jinxia: [Where are you?]
Not receiving a reply imdiately, she typed: [I’m coming to find you]
After waiting a while, still having received no response, she couldn’t help but type another ssage:
[I miss you, where are you? [hug.jpg]]
The sticker she chose was her own cartoon image, a miniature version of herself dressed in soft, pink clothing, lips puffed up high, reaching out for a hug.
It might have been the incessant stream of nagging text ssages that caught Sheng Yan’s attention, or perhaps it was the extraordinarily lifelike sticker that softened his heart, but soon, Sheng Yan replied.
Sheng Yan: "I’m at the company."
He Jinxia: "I’ll co to you."
Sheng Yan: "Alright."
anwhile, Luo You was in the gym’s lounge, looking sternly at Cheng Xiaohua, who bowed her head after hanging up the phone.
Cheng Xiaohua said with sha, "I’m sorry, Brother Luo, it was my fault, I, I..."
Luo You shook his head, "No, from my perspective, you did nothing wrong. As a celebrity’s assistant, you must judge the celebrity’s ntal state, actions, emotions, etc. If I were in your position, I would have done the sa."
Luo You comforted her, "Have you forgotten? The first person who knew about this news was you because I sent it to you. I chose to inform only you and not Jinxia because I believed that you should be the first to know about this news that could impact Jinxia and that you would try your best to keep it hidden. I trusted you wouldn’t tell Jinxia."
Cheng Xiaohua stared blankly, lifting her head with shimring teardrops in her eyes, bewildered, she asked, "Ah, you wanted not to tell Jinxia?"
Luo You nodded firmly.
Cheng Xiaohua still didn’t catch on and blurted out, "Why though?"
Zhang Dayou, who had been observing, found the assistant quite naïve and, borrowing a popular internet phrase, thought she was adorably clueless.
He, having no interest in bullying the inexperienced, kindly explained, "Isn’t it obvious? Luo You was testing you to see if you’re a qualified celebrity assistant. Congratulations, you passed the test."
Cheng Xiaohua felt a rush of relief and looked at them eagerly, "Does this an I won’t be fired?"
Zhang Dayou laughed, about to say how such a trifle couldn’t possibly lead to firing a competent assistant when Luo You suddenly said, "Don’t celebrate too soon."
Zhang Dayou and Cheng Xiaohua turned their heads towards him in unison.
Luo You said calmly, "Before you can be sure you’re not fired, you need to tell sothing."
After a pause, he asked pointedly, "What is going on between Sheng Yan and He Jinxia?"
*
Upon arriving at the company, He Jinxia hurriedly ran to the staircase and pressed the button for the top floor, not even considering stopping at the reception to check in.
The receptionist tried to stop her, but upon seeing He Jinxia lift her face and reveal her features under the hat, the receptionist imdiately halted and did not obstruct further.
As a well-known, currently popular star, the receptionist recognized He Jinxia at a glance and thought it would be fine to just register her afterward.
So receptionists, after He Jinxia boarded the elevator, even whispered among themselves, "He Jinxia is in such a rush; I wonder what happened?"
"No way, I just scrolled through Weibo, and she was a guest at Yang Xingxin’s concert today; there hasn’t been any scandal."
"Could it be that she’s rushing back for the CEO?" one receptionist speculated shockingly.
This remark was t with skeptical looks from others—-
"How co we don’t see Tonghua Entertainnt’s top male and female stars rushing back? Oh right, there’s also He Minqing and ngng who recently got popular through a TV drama!"
Unaware of others’ idle gossip, He Jinxia’s mind was solely preoccupied after seeing the compromising news about Sheng Yan. Her one thought:
Run to his side, hold him, and comfort him!
