As Peng Yufei called for shooting to begin, He Jinxia might have been distracted, but her acting didn’t suffer any issues. Instead, it was the unrelated supporting characters, and even the crew who set up the lights and scenes, who made mistakes. The news of "Emperor Sheng’s arrival" had completely thrown the production team into disarray.
After several takes, with mistakes in each one, and lunchti fast approaching, Peng Yufei decided to wrap up an hour early and let everyone rest.
Once filming ended for the day, the crew excitedly gathered to talk about Sheng Yan. So even planned to go pay their respects to Emperor Sheng, skipping als for fear of being late.
A casual glance allowed He Jinxia to "read" from their lips and a contemplative look crossed her eyes as she gained a more tangible understanding of Sheng Yan’s influence.
If they didn’t even know where Sheng Yan was, how could they pay their respects?
But Sheng Yan indeed had a sort of magnetic pull, compelling people to act irrationally and blindly, to seek him out despite the odds, because otherwise... they couldn’t stand it!
Cheng Xiaohua was also eagerly part of the searching crew. When He Jinxia was resting at noon, Xiaohua called a friend and ran off in a frenzy to search.
The assistant was truly considerate, forgoing the obvious source of information that she was, fearing that asking her about Sheng Yan’s whereabouts would put her in a difficult position.
And He Jinxia indeed felt troubled at this ti.
She looked down at her phone, then put it away, only to look at it again a few dozen seconds later and put it away once more. This cycle continued for so long that her heart had been restless for just as long.
What should she say?
She had just spoken to him on the phone yesterday, after all.
Now, whenever she thought back on it, He Jinxia felt slightly guilty.
She didn’t even realize how long she had kept him hanging...
Lost in thought, her phone vibrated, and He Jinxia saw the caller ID and, without a second thought, answered.
"Hello?"
Sheng Yan deliberately lowered his voice, his natural huskiness adding a flirtatious edge, "Where are you?"
A faint smile curled up the corners of He Jinxia’s mouth as she whispered with her head lowered, "At the set."
Sheng Yan: "Are there people around you?"
He Jinxia: "I’m just playing along with you, aren’t I? Why, don’t you like it?"
Sheng Yan replied instantly: "No, I like it a lot."
Pfft!
Was that the kind of response a love novice without any relationship experience would give?
He Jinxia’s heartbeat quickened a few beats, feeling as though she’d been taken advantage of, um, verbally taken advantage of.
She muttered under her breath, "You philanderer."
The woman’s grumbled complaint was soft, and it was sowhat noisy on Sheng Yan’s end, so he didn’t hear it for a mont—but—
The corners of his mouth curved up slightly, a shallow smile passing briefly, as he could probably guess.
Sheng Yan softly said, "Co out for dinner, okay?"
He Jinxia’s eyes curved slightly, a sly gleam flickering through them, "Unfortunately, my set is in a very remote area. It takes half an hour to get to any restaurant in Film City."
Sheng Yan: "Then how about tonight—"
He Jinxia interrupted, "You need to rest at night."
Sheng Yan, "Then tomor—"
He Jinxia, "We have filming tomorrow!"
Sheng Yan, "..."
He Jinxia flashed a brilliant smile, the corners of her mouth curving into a triumphant grin, revealing a set of bright white teeth—it was too bad that no one could see it.
Seeing that no response was forthcoming from the other end of the phone for quite a while, He Jinxia’s smile deepened, and her voice was so cheerful it was as if she could blow out a tune.
"Okay, I won’t disturb your rest, Big Shot. You ca to Film City to shoot, right? Work hard!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she hung up the phone and when she looked up again, she was feeling real refreshed~
It was sowhat tough for Sheng Yan, who stared at the black screen of his phone for a long ti, his brows deeply furrowed, puzzled about where things had gone wrong.
Big Boss Sheng had never encountered such a setback in his pursuit from the very beginning until today.
He was utterly confused: What do I do if the person I was getting along with suddenly ignores ??
In the restaurant’s private room, the drama crew along with the director were all drinking cheerfully, a picture of harmony and friendship. Director Li, seeing so actors drinking, didn’t stop them; he even poured himself so wine and enjoyed a few glasses with a smile.
The entire crew had arrived on set a week ahead of the planned ti. There was no delay, only an advancent, which made Director Li so happy that he felt like giving them three days off would be totally fine!
"Co on, Brother Sheng, let toast to you!"
A glamorous female celebrity with gorgeous wavy long hair walked over to Sheng Yan’s side. A sly smile played at her lips as she boldly approached to offer him a drink.
Sheng Yan ca back to reality, glanced up at her, nodded slightly, and said slowly, "I don’t drink."
This sexy female star, nad Deng Zhaoyan, had no small status in the industry; she was an A-list actress, the type Luo You and Tony referred to as the quintessential example of a star built up through fashion marketing hype.
Starting off as a model, she had won many contests and walked for secondary fashion brands. She secured a few advertising endorsents, and because of her outstanding body and beautiful features, she suddenly beca popular. She then participated in a hit national variety show, which surged in viewership.
From then on, advertising endorsents ca pouring in. Deng Zhaoyan had a keen fashion sense, a background in the fashion industry, and an air of class about her. Coupled with the absence of any major scandals, even luxury brands began to court her.
Simply by shooting comrcials and participating in variety shows, without any significant acting achievents to her na, Deng Zhaoyan successfully ascended to the status of an A-list star.
This seemingly smooth climb was far from as easy as it appeared on the surface. Her success was largely a product of luck, seizing opportunities, and social acun.
The last part was crucial.
For instance, being publicly rejected by Sheng Yan did not cause her any embarrassnt. With an open laugh, she said, "No worries, I’ll drink for both of us!"
She downed the wine in her glass in one go, tipping the empty glass upside down. Not a drop spilled out; she had drunk it all cleanly.
Raising her head, she gazed at Sheng Yan with sparkling eyes, speaking admiringly, "Emperor Sheng, I’ve always been a fan of yours. I never dread I’d have the chance to act with you. Could I get your autograph later? I’ve watched every single one of your films!"
Sheng Yan was used to actors he worked with being his fans, and he had developed a way to handle such interactions. Without even looking at Deng Zhaoyan, he kept his head down, focused on his phone, and replied indifferently, "I’ll have my agent get it to you."
Deng Zhaoyan’s crisp voice sounded excitedly in his ears, "Thank you, Emperor Sheng. I hope the scenes we act together will go smoothly!"
Sheng Yan responded blandly, "Hmm."
Seeing that Sheng Yan had no intention of continuing the conversation, Deng Zhaoyan didn’t press further and found an excuse to leave.
When she returned to her seat, Deng Zhaoyan raised her hand to brush her hair, revealing her white neck, and the perfu sprayed behind her ears released a subtle fragrance. Every gesture she made was full of feminine allure.
