Chapter 130 – 105: The New Tenant of the Bai Ke Family
July 3rd, night.
Ke Mingye rubbed the bridge of his nose and expressionlessly put down the textbook he was holding. As he let out a sigh, a panel popped up in front of him.
Without thinking, he glanced upwards, and a mass of dense text caught his eye.
[Congratulations, you have completed the first milestone of the main quest “The Extinction of the Blood Clan” — approaching “White-Haired Blood Clan” Bai Ziling under a disguised identity.]
[The next milestone for this main quest is: “Destroy the Vampire Hunter Organization” — using Bai Ziling as bait to lure the vampire hunters to this city, and kill all the vampire hunters at once.]
Upon seeing this, Ke Mingye raised an eyebrow.
“Please, what the heck is the Vampire Hunter Organization? So now there’s another thing as nonsensically strange as the Shadow Heir Ninja Sect?” he thought.
[Milestone reward points gained: 2000 Experience Points, 8 attribute points, 2000 Mall Coins.]
[You have a total of 8 unused attribute points, please allocate them promptly.]
Ke Mingye imdiately allocated them to “neurological reaction,” without any hesitation.
[Your “neurological reaction” attribute has changed: 25→33 points (↑8 points).]
[Congratulations, your “neurological reaction” attribute has successfully surpassed the “Minimum Attribute Standard for F-Class Superhumans” (30 points).]
Ke Mingye took a long breath and thought to himself.
“F-class reflexes, huh? I still feel it’s going to be tough to make them useful. When the ti cos, I’ll just play it by ear and try to die slower.”
What happened earlier on the beach was very straightforward.
Ke Mingye might have looked like he stood up before a primary school student, but in reality, just as he was about to reveal the true identity of the dragon to Bai Ziling, his head was promptly twisted off by the Dragon of Calamity.
He had to leave, regrettably.
Only ten minutes passed, and Bai Ziling and Ke Yongzhu went ho one after another. Ke Yongzhu even brought her a bottle of drink on the way. Since they had a rotation agreent over the TV with Ke Yinzhi, it was now their turn to use the TV, so they sat on the sofa sipping their drinks and started watching “Zootropolis”.
Ke Mingye went downstairs and sat next to them, just about to say sothing, when Bai Zini ca rushing down from upstairs with shining eyes and said, “Big bro, big bro!”
“What’s up?” asked Ke Mingye.
“I’ve made plans with big brother and second brother, we’re going to Wanxiang City tomorrow, and Dad has reimbursed us, he sent big brother a whole two thousand bucks!” Find more to read at empire
“Wow, two thousand bucks! We’re going to have so much fun tomorrow.” Ke Mingye said expressionlessly, “But you have to keep an eye on big brother, be careful he doesn’t pocket it all.”
“How could he, if big brother dares to do that I’ll bite him to death.” Bai Zini huffed and turned to the other two on the sofa, “What do you guys want to do?”
“I want to watch a movie, book a movie ticket,” Ke Yongzhu said.
Bai Zini frowned with disdain, “Watching movies at ho every day, even wanting to watch movies when going out, can’t you just shop around for once?”
Just then, Bai Qiuwu pushed open the door, took off her shoes, and walked in. She was about to pass by the sofa when she stopped and looked at the four people, “What are you talking about?”
“Where did you go, big sister? Couldn’t find you earlier,” Bai Zini turned to her.
“Uh…” Bai Qiuwu paused for a mont, a smile playing on her lips, “I went to et a friend, but unfortunately, I didn’t see them.”
Ke Mingye was taken aback, thinking, Big sister, you didn’t go to the 7th Overpass Bridge to look for again, did you? I don’t have ti to et you tonight.
He said, “We’re going to Wanxiang City tomorrow.”
Bai Qiuwu raised her eyebrows, “Wanxiang City, huh? Take with you then.” Although she was speaking to Ke Mingye, her gaze unavoidably slipped towards Ke Yongzhu.
All day long, she couldn’t stop thinking about the strange creature’s warning on the overpass, saying that tomorrow soone would target Ke Yongzhu, and she had to protect him.
What kind of person would target a child? she wondered, Is it my enemy, or Xiao Ni’s? The only superhumans in the family are us two, so those are the only possibilities…
“Sure,” Ke Mingye said nonchalantly, “I’ll take you, my treat.”
“That generous? You didn’t really gamble on the dark web, did you?” Bai Qiuwu asked.
“It’s actually Dad’s reimbursent, don’t listen to big brother’s nonsense,” Bai Zini exposed the truth.
“That’s a relief,” Bai Qiuwu replied. “Oh, and…” She started, setting down her backpack and pulling out a box, “Guess what’s inside this?”
Ke Mingye glanced at the box, about to suggest pizza, when suddenly an information panel popped up unexpectedly from the top of the box.
[Species: Cat]
[Gender: Male]
[Danger Level: B-Class]
[Description: A cat involved in an illegal mutant gene experint by accident, it can see through a superpower user’s abilities and replicate them for use. It escaped from the lab 10 days ago and is currently in a vagrant state.]
[Current superpower being replicated and used: Affection (forces a target to develop a strong liking towards itself)]
[Note: Extraordinary animals are not considered within the category of superhumans.]
“What the heck?” Ke Mingye was stunned, “Big sis, could you possibly pick up sothing even stranger?” he thought, but then reconsidered, “No, wait, did she notice sothing off about this cat using Eyes of Golden Fla, or was she… bewitched by this cat’s superpower?”
“It contains a cat?”
Bai Zini curiously glanced at the box and, hearing a rumbling sound inside, much like the engine of a motorcycle, she made a conjecture.
“Nini sure deserves to be our child, guessing it just like that.”
With those words, Bai Qiuwu smiled, extended her hand, and lifted the lid of the box. A tiny black cat with blue eyes poked its head out, owing and scratching its head with a paw.
Bai Ziling’s attention was caught; she slightly raised her eyebrows, moved closer, and gently rubbed the cat’s head.
“Cute…” she whispered softly.
Ke Yongzhu took a sip of cola, glanced at Bai Ziling’s profile, and quickly looked away, muttering, “Stray cats are all dirty.”
Yeah, right, like you’re so noble breed compared to a stray cat. Ke Mingye grumbled internally.
“It’s not dirty, I just took it to the pet shop for a bath before bringing it ho,” Bai Qiuwu shook her head.
“Exactly, elentary school kids always tell bald-faced lies. I think you’re the dirty one,” Bai Zini said, giving Ke Yongzhu a disdainful look.
Ke Yongzhu retorted, “Hmph.”
“Big sis, you’re not planning to keep it, are you?”
Ke Mingye paused for a mont, then looked up at Bai Qiuwu and asked.
“It depends,” Bai Qiuwu replied, “Mom and Dad will be back in a few days. We can let it stay in our house for now, feed it so food. If they don’t agree later, then I’ll take it to a stray cat shelter.”
“With so many stray cats on the streets, why keep this one?” Ke Mingye probed.
“Hmm… I just felt like we had so kind of connection the mont I saw it,” Bai Qiuwu said with a smile, pausing for a bit, “It’s very charming, isn’t it?”
“Oh, I see.” Ke Mingye pretty much concluded that Bai Qiuwu was srized by the cat’s superpower, “I think it’s okay, let’s keep it, then. I’m going to sleep now; I hope your cat won’t scream in the middle of the night.”
As he spoke, he yawned, with tears welled up in his eyes, and took to the stairs.
He could hear the others discussing nas for the cat behind him. Bai Zini had a few suggestions, but Bai Qiuwu said she had already picked a na for it, “Yuri.”
To be honest, Ke Mingye was starting to regret not choosing that E-level Skill— “Animal Communication Skill.” If he had that skill, he could communicate with this B-level cat, and perhaps there’d be an extra helper at ho. Of course, this was all hindsight; he couldn’t have anticipated the current situation…
A mutant cat added to the ho, even if dad wouldn’t agree, mom, who is a fanatical extraterrestrial researcher, might very well keep the cat as a research subject.
So, assuming mom agreed, dad would probably have to compromise even if he disagreed, so… it was pretty much confird that the cat would be staying with them.
Logically, the cat’s abilities would only affect superpower users, and the only superpower user in the house was dad, so the danger wasn’t that great, right?
“That’s it, let it copy dad’s superpower, and I can finally study what dad’s power actually does beyond creating fake crows,” Ke Mingye thought, “But what if the cat unleashes dad’s superpower at ho? If he sees the cat spawning a bunch of crows, wouldn’t he just explode it?”
Just great, now we have a ticking ti bomb at ho, our family really is thriving.
Thinking about this, Ke Mingye freshened up in front of the bathroom mirror before lying back down on his bed and setting an alarm on his system.
Tomorrow was the day the Ninja Sect would launch their attack, and both Ke Youqing and Bai Wenna were not at ho.
But with his big sister and Bai Ziling guarding the elentary schooler, and the elentary schooler himself being an A grade superhuman, even if the Ninja Sect had so dragon-specific tactics, they wouldn’t be able to deal with him so quickly.
All they needed to do was stall until big brother ca to the rescue; tomorrow, they needed to make sure that big brother wouldn’t be too far from them.
As for the second brother… well, it’s still uncertain what he’d choose.
Anyway, rest and conserve energy, better sleep early.
With that thought, Ke Mingye closed his eyes and drifted deeply into sleep.
…….
…….
anwhile, at the coffee shop on No. 7 Street in Old Jingmai District.
Two figures were sitting on the white wooden chairs outside the café, one drinking alcohol, the other coffee. Basking in the warm light emanating from the café and in the pleasant chirping of crickets, they chatted leisurely.
“Drinking coffee so late at night, aren’t you worried about not being able to sleep?” Ke Xiaomo asked.
“I’m more worried about falling asleep,” Ke Yinzhi replied.
“Why?”
Ke Yinzhi sipped his coffee, contemplative: “Hmm… Probably because sleeping makes it easy to dream,” he shrugged, “I hate dreaming; it feels like things are slipping out of my control.”
“Since you were a kid you had control freak tendencies, and it’s still the sa now. There’s a limit to what we can control; not everything can be in our hands,” Ke Xiaomo paused, “You really should co practice with us for a while, it’s good for the body and mind.”
“Forget that, what’s the deal with the dragon?” Ke Yinzhi chuckled, “It’s the night before the action starts, and the Ninja Sect still hasn’t told you where the dragon of calamity is?”
“I don’t know,” Ke Xiaomo shook his head, “What’s going on exactly? They seem to be deliberately keeping in the dark.”
“Maybe they think they don’t need you and want you to have a good break?”
“I hope so.”
“Let’s head back, just in ti to make sure those kids go to bed.”
“Yeah.”
