Chapter 992: Chapter 28: Variable Assault
The City in the Sky, Third Assembly Departnt.
“Huff, huff… First official experint, huff… Starting in ten seconds!” Mo Yuankai was sweating like rain, “All units prepare!”
John Garcia silently stared at the ceiling of the test cockpit, feeling like he couldn’t concentrate no matter what. One distraction was the chubby guy doing push-ups nearby, the second was the chatter of inexperienced subordinates on the comms channel, and the third was the second pilot of this junk machine sitting behind him, excitedly rubbing their hands.
“Wow, wow, wow!” Yun Yinglang’s eyes sparkled with excitent, “That information broker really knows their stuff; this cockpit looks great… Hey, why the long face? We’re about to launch the giant robot into the sky!”
John slowly exhaled and said, “We’re not flying. Today is a weapon test, not activating the main body.”
“What? All that anticipation for nothing.” Yun Yinglang pouted, but quickly perked up, “Hmph, let tell you, this No. 3 unit’s guard and main output is none other than the incredibly talented . For your safety on future battlefields, you better start buttering up, Dust Explosion—”
John silently pulled up the control stick: “Experint start.”
“Ah, wait, I’m not ready yet!”
The roof of the Third Assembly Departnt opened to the sides, sunlight illuminating most of the area, while the No. 3 unit stood perfectly in the shadows, like a dark shadow cast by a giant. Thirty small machines shaped like birds flew out from behind the giant, carrying the forr underworld mbers to various parts of the City in the Sky. They quickly reached the designated locations, hovering in the high skies.
“Coordinate error 0.3%, basically as expected.” John reported, “Your turn.”
Yun Yinglang hurriedly opened the communication channel: “Everyone, turn on any loudspeaker level!”
“What are we yelling for?” “Damn, I’m worried you’ll misfire…” “Promise us you won’t blow us up first, alright?”
“Stop the nonsense and shout!”
“Oh!”
The hovering subunits simultaneously emitted supersonic waves imperceptible to the human ear, this power instantly transford into purple smoke, quickly disappearing before causing any alarm among the citizens below, and then the subunits flew back into the assembly plant, akin to crows returning to their nests. John turned off the subordinates’ communication and said, “Experint completed.”
“Great, good work everyone!” Mo Yuankai gave a thumbs up and marked a perfect √ on the checklist. Orianna stood next to him, her face full of pride and anticipation.
“Mo, look. The young ones who once engaged in violent industries can now contribute to the cause of protecting the world. Isn’t that wonderful?”
“Indeed, indeed.” Mo Yuankai nodded repeatedly, “I’m sure John would be very happy to hear that!”
Budman wiped the cold sweat off his forehead, never so glad before that he wasn’t on the sa machine as the boss. He whispered, “How long is that woman intending to stay? I get goosebumps just seeing her.”
“In theory, Creator Realm Mages have tight schedules, and Miss Orianna needs to return ho right after this experint,” Shiyu Lianyi was thoughtful, “But the Dawn Knight seems to have other plans… perhaps related to the work I’m handling.”
He was about to return to his files when Kardesia, watching the spectacle, shouted to Mo Yuankai, “Hey, where’s my No. 2 unit! John and Little Yun both have new machines, when can my Flowing Fla be ready!”
“Your machine should be ready after a while because the doctor ntioned joining the battlefield the other day. It just so happens that they’ll replace Qin Qianbai in the machine control position, making the modification towards a heavy artillery platform easier.”
“It’s a sha Little Qian isn’t coming.”
“Martial Arts experts can be more effective outside the machine, that’s why Zijing doesn’t plan on joining the Machine God project.”
Mo Yuankai wiped the sweat off his head and once again checked his phone calendar to confirm the ti. Alandia hadn’t ntioned any plans to them, but Mo Yuankai had a vague suspicion. Perhaps when Orianna returned to the Country, the Dawn Knights would begin so real ‘actions.’
Thanks to Ah Ce and the others drawing the enemy’s attention elsewhere, the City in the Sky could take its ti and act slowly.
“I wonder how Ah Ce’s progress is going over there…”
·
Gongsun Ce opened his eyes, realizing he hadn’t yet woken up.
After becoming a Divine Communication Mage, he had acquired the basic ability to control dreams and the ntal world. In theory, he could not only control his sleep ti freely but also customize the content of his dreams. When he first discovered this ability, Gongsun Ce was a bit tempted to design so sweet dreams to entertain himself, but he didn’t get around to it before attending Agent Will’s first lesson.
In that class, the first thing the agent did was pull out a beat-up notebook and read from a page near the back: “Getting lost in unrealistic dreams is the silliest reason for a Divine Communication Mage to go rogue. If you’ve already tried this before reading this advice, then you’re hopelessly screwed, get lost.”
After reading the note, Agent Will offered an objective assessnt, saying that once you’ve stabilized your mind in the Divine Realm and increased its strength, constructing a dream wouldn’t be as dangerous, but you must rember to exercise moderation. Gongsun Ce said Mr. Will, you’re joking, Yan Qi is ssing with on purpose. Am I, with my self-control, likely to rely on dreams for satisfaction? No way, absolutely not!
In the end, he went ho and painfully deleted all the materials he had collected to kill any budding ideas while cursing that the Impermanence Skill was really garbage, so much so that Qiluo almost called for ergency help thinking he was having an episode.
