Chapter 989: Chapter 27: Physicians Cannot Heal Themselves (Final)

“Let’s go.” Bai Aoli wiped her tears and stood up, “There’s nothing left to reminisce about.”

“Your mood adjusts quickly.”

“I’m an old woman now, I don’t have the strength for long bouts of weeping.” Bai Aoli put on her round-frad glasses, “The Constant Dragon Body experint went fairly smoothly. I have proven that artificial totems are feasible. That young Queen will be pleased upon receiving this news; she can finally get her wish.”

“And you? Are you happy?” the champion said, “Actually, I just thought of a better plan. How about I let you go on a trip with her? I’ll tell Gaius that you were of no use anymore and I dealt with it with a sword stroke, easy enough.”

Bai Aoli slowly shook her head.

“Just like you said. Once so flas are ignited, they can never be extinguished again.”

She left the bar, leaving everything behind, not looking back.

One day ago, in the morning.

Leaves fluttered past the layers of the ancient tree city with the wind, playing lodious and joyful flute sounds. The morning in the chanical State began with the music of nature. For twenty years, the Hundred Birds City Band, crafted by nurous plant doctors and artists, has served this city as a ti-keeping function, still welcod by the citizens.

During a restless night with Wind Angel agitated, Father Grey was busy with various patients. It wasn’t until the next day that he had ti to help design the prosthetic order for Gongsun Ce. Fortunately, the prosthetics required for Skill construction don’t need to be too ticulous; having whimsical ideas is enough. With Zhen Fan’s assistance, they finalized a few preliminary plans, leaving the rest for Gongsun Ce to handle himself.

“The impact of this incident is quite significant, isn’t it?” Gongsun Ce asked during the discussion leisurely.

“Not small.” Father Grey affird, “With ten thousand people involved in such an incident, the aftermath alone is enough for the Church and authorities to deal with. The agents I know have been on the brink of madness these days. I estimate that within the next five years, people using Wood chanism prosthetics will greatly decrease.”

“But will there still be people using them?”

“Definitely.” Grey said, “Poor people, convenient seekers, old-fashioned, and eccentric people… With a base of two billion, even small groups remain large. The recovery plan after dismantling prosthetics is also a topic that requires deep exploration. I see my research can go on until retirent.”

Gongsun Ce felt deeply impressed: “You work hard.”

The priest casually handed the printed design to him, saying, “Hey, I’m a doctor!”

He thanked Father Grey again and then proceeded to the core of the ancient tree supporting Hundred Birds City. Bai Aoli Dadarian left the family without any nostalgia after the Wind Angel experint, shocking the mbers of the Dadarian family greatly. Fortunately, ancient families always have countless preparatory plans, and now, after three days, Poddis Dadarian beca the provisional Family Head representative. After discussion, it was decided to return the totem after inspection to the Dadarian family — partly because it has little use outside chanical State, and secondly out of fear that removing the totem might lead to adverse environntal changes.

Mr. Poddis stood at the entrance of the plant workshop within the ancient tree, the eyes of the middle-aged man filled with lancholy.

“I have thought that my mother no longer cared about the family and the business, but I didn’t expect her to make such a choice…” Poddis said, “I’m her son, yet I haven’t done anything for her.”

“She wasn’t that cold-hearted.” Gongsun Ce said, “The fact that nothing happened to you is the best evidence.”

Poddis looked at him confusedly.

“Mr. Poddis, when you fell that day, it made a huge noise, and you also have Wood chanism prosthetics, right? But during the Wind Angel experint, you weren’t affected. After investigating remaining intelligence, we found the type of wood on you was not included in her experint scope, which shows the old lady still had so familial affection.” Gongsun Ce adjusted his glasses, “Not much, just a little.”

Poddis remained silent for a long ti, appearing even more sorrowful than before. He sighed sorrowfully, handed the totem clock back to Gongsun Ce, and left the core of this family ahead.

Gongsun Ce gazed at the Wood chanism clock at the center of the plant workshop. In these three days of investigation, he learned that the Dadarian family’s totem is more like a “key,” only by holding the small clock as a token can all its powers be unlocked here. He focused his attention, saw ancient green glowing text on the edge of the small clock.

[Strong end due to constraint, strong due to self-discipline.]

Gongsun Ce surveyed the surrounding environnt. He quickly found another note, seemingly echoing the one on the small clock and written on the side of the giant clock.

[Might as well write more while there’s space, as an enhancent to Skill effects.

This damn place has been called Green Forest State in the past millennia. I felt it didn’t quite fit, so I changed its na to chanical State. The peculiarity and madness here are deeply rooted (sounds like a wordplay, I like to call it a ‘cold’ joke). People watch plants grow and wither day after day, and it’s hard not to link it to their own short lives. They either invest this passion into combating nature or get shocked enough to start seeking immortality.

The previous Family Head of the Dadarian family went overseas searching for the Pill of Immortality, reportedly dying in a shipwreck near Zero Island, unsure if it counted as fulfilling his wish. This family breeds madness too easily. I seriously considered for days whether to hold onto their totem, deliberating over and over eventually to let it go. Most of the newly ford Church are muscle heads, and there aren’t many wise people among the Mithril pillars. If they took control of this place, within three hundred years, I’m afraid the Church would turn into the next organization seeking immortality, and the northern continent would definitely fall into plight again.
