Chapter 854: Chapter 51: The Thickening Mist
After a successful date, Mo Yuankai and Orianna rarely enjoyed a happy ti together. They stole monts amidst their busy schedules to secretly et, strolling through the streets and alleys of the capital, visiting the circus, the museums, and going on nature walks in the parks, enjoying their lives like any normal couple would. In everyone’s eyes, they appeared incredibly happy, and even the most discerning elderly folks had to admit that these two young people were born for each other.
“Just last week, I t with Orianna’s parents,” Mo Yuankai said.
“Are the two old nobles quite old-fashioned?” Gongsun Ce asked eagerly, “How did they make things difficult for you?”
“Surprisingly, they were quite satisfied with !”
“Wow, wow, wow — what’s so surprising about that? You’re such an outstanding talent, they can’t even find fault with you.”
The two laughed and chatted briefly before hastily leaving the dining table. Mo Yuankai returned to the workshop to help rush urgent orders, and Gongsun Ce went to the office to assist in organizing paperwork.
Happy tis are always fleeting. Day by day, July moved into its later days, and the date of the incoming Dragon Disaster drew nearer. Everyone involved in the dragon-slaying plan was busy beyond belief, with every day feeling like the eve of battle, overwheld by countless sudden events.
Dawn Knight gradually regained real power after repairing her armor, quickly returning to her duties. A portion of the paperwork was voluntarily taken over by Gongsun Ce to lighten the load (as this was in fact the attendant’s work). He initially worried this might be redundant but found himself doing quite well in practice. Orianna was at headquarters every day discussing the details of the plan, while Mo Yuankai was busy upgrading old equipnt in the capital to reduce the risk of mishaps. Now most of their ti was spent on independent activities, and only when returning ho deep at night could they communicate like they did a month ago.
“I feel very sorry, Ce,” Dawn Knight said to him while passing by as he was sorting docunts, “All of this should have nothing to do with you.”
“Yes, yes, compared to endless bickering, 60-page reports, and contentious etings, running around the city solving murder cases now seems full of fun,” Gongsun Ce said as he wrote replies with telekinesis, controlling the pen, “But since I’m your attendant, I can’t just watch you ensnared in these tedious yet necessary trivial matters… uh… how do you say that honorific again… ‘my knight’?”
Alandia took the pen from mid-air, correcting a few words that weren’t formal enough: “Inappropriate usage, as this implies a top-down aning, ‘my attendant.’
“Sorry~~,” Gongsun Ce dragged the tone, “Anyway, don’t worry about it; I’m doing it voluntarily. I used to know an idiot who said I never did anything aningful in my life. Now I can refute him with tangible achievents, every day is fulfilling and creates value. I really want to repay you when you have ti, wanna set up a date?”
Alandia set down the pen and gently tapped his forehead, “A gentleman doesn’t seek returns for work in personal life.”
“Ah, indeed, indeed.” Gongsun Ce sighed, “Alright, I’ll always find a chance… I’m heading to the third floor, see you this evening.”
“See you this evening.”
After a brief exchange, they quickly parted. During this ti, Gongsun Ce constantly tried different ways to propose a date, each ti being declined for varying reasons. Sotis he wondered if Alandia was subtly telling him not to overthink through this way. He knew if he really asked, that honest Knight would certainly tell him the truth…
But Gongsun Ce was not that willing to face reality. The truth could very well be that Dawn Knight didn’t have those kinds of feelings for him, yet he still wanted to hold on to a glimr of hope in his heart. He knew the best way was to find an opportunity to confess first, regardless of everything else. However, given the current situation, there was not much ti for personal matters. It was best to wait until after the Dragon Disaster was dealt with as everyone needed to be fully focused on their work now.
He walked to the office on the 3rd floor with a file bag, knocking on the door twice. Today’s duty mbers were the leader, Gafri, and Alandia (substituted by Gongsun Ce). “Co in!” There was a mountain of files stacked on the desk; the old leader was holding a report, pondering, while Gafri was speaking to two Heart Phase Weapons resembling crystal balls. “Of course, of course, we will consider public opinion in this aspect… we definitely won’t violate the country’s laws… stern opposition from the Academy Barrier Research Society?” Gafri was frantically making eye signals, and Gongsun Ce hurriedly handed him a file. “Ah! The Knight Order will certainly take your views seriously… by the way, I just received docunts signed by the President of the society, expressing firm support for this… yes, yes, it’s a communication problem… I understand… thank you very much!”
Gafri turned off both crystal balls and wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief, “Holy King! Just in ti, Mr. Gongsun, how did you get that greedy old man to relent?”
“I said, considering the grave atmosphere in the capital and the leakage suspicion cloud yet to be entirely dispelled, Knight Alandia plans to restart a comprehensive investigation into the Impermanence Law Enforcers in the capital. Of course, this has nothing to do with your society and today’s public affairs, I rely revealed a bit of inside information to you out of respect for Lord Loningles, so please pretend I said nothing…,” Gongsun Ce said as he sat down, “And then the old president expressed full cooperation, quite miraculous.”
Gafri praised, “It seems the shining and upright knightly spirit has influenced his head full of outdated customs.”
