212: Chapter 3 Collapse_2 212: Chapter 3 Collapse_2 Yan Qi was different from the one in front of him; she maintained her original appearance, spoke her original words, and wielded the powers that truly belonged to her.
Alandia was not a fignt of his imagination.
Alandia did not deceive him.
The black-haired Gongsun Ce sat on the small bed, dispirited, as if all the strength had left his body.
“…Why are you here?
You should be in the outermost place.
Only I can enter here.”
The Dawn Knight sat back at the desk.
“Ce, it was you who placed here,” she pointed out bluntly, “because…”
“I don’t want to hear it, shut up.”
Gongsun Ce responded rudely, utterly disregarding any semblance of courtesy or friendship.
He had totally forgotten about the search for the Spirit Light; there were more important matters to resolve.
He needed this woman to quiet down, better yet to leave, because the Dawn Knight could always uncover all truths, including the secrets buried deepest in his heart.
He had figured out what to say, what to do.
He should ask Alandia to leave out of courtesy, then in the shortest ti possible find the Spirit Light to leave this place once and for all, never to see this version of her again.
She was but an embodint of power, not the woman from his mories.
He had no reason to respect a re force.
Gongsun Ce had thought up his opening line: Please understand my impoliteness, and please step outside for a mont.
He took a deep breath, raised his eyes to et hers, and said, “…I’m sorry.”
Gongsun Ce was taken aback.
He couldn’t say the rehearsed introduction; instead, he involuntarily uttered his true feelings.
“I’m sorry, Miss Alandia.
You understand how I feel…”
“I understand,” the silver-haired woman nodded.
“I apologize.”
Her apology only made Gongsun Ce feel worse.
“No.
It’s not your fault.
I can’t control my emotions, not even now.
I shouldn’t have yelled at you.
I…
I’ve been using your power, you’ve saved many tis, I…”
He clutched his head in anguish, “…I miss you.”
He tried to say sothing witty to lighten the mood, but like before, he couldn’t get the words out.
Why was this happening?
Where were his manners, his lies, his platitudes?
How could Gongsun Ce be so powerless that he couldn’t even keep hold of his own words…
Suddenly he knew the reason.
This was the deepest part of his soul; he couldn’t lie to himself.
“Ce, I miss the tis we spent together too,” Alandia stated simply.
“And now, you should seek the secrets deep within your soul.”
Without asking for permission from the hoowner, the Dawn Knight opened a drawer of the desk.
She pulled out a book as tall as a person from the drawer, its thickness far exceeding the drawer’s capacity.
“Penciled on the cover were three large characters: “Gongsun Ce.”
Gongsun Ce opened the first page with his own hands, and the book contained another large volu with the words on its cover: “Helping all Supers achieve freedom.”
Trembling, he opened the second book to find a slightly smaller volu titled: “Protecting everyone’s lives.”
Gongsun Ce increased the pace of his actions; behind each book hid a new one: “Preventing disasters from happening,” “Defending fairness and justice,” “Imitating my older brother’s actions,” “Not causing trouble for everyone”…
until at last, he saw a book so small it couldn’t be smaller.
This was a handcrafted hardcover book, its deep grey cover bound in leather with gilt patterns on the edges, and the curvature of its spine was perfection itself.
Opening the cover revealed endpapers adorned with damp-stretched paintings.
Yet not a single word graced the cover, no author, no title.
Gongsun Ce pulled out the small book.
He flipped through the pages of excellent quality, until the very last page, and saw not a single character.
“””
All the pages were blank; the book contained nothing, an exquisitely decorated waste product.
It had no aning.
Gongsun Ce’s hands began to tremble.
With a tone close to pleading, he asked, “I haven’t reached the deepest part yet, have I?
This is…I guess…like so kind of torch-like illusion?”
Dawn Knight remained silent, simply gazing at him, speechless.
Gongsun Ce grew even more restless, not understanding why he couldn’t calm down, “Don’t joke at a ti like this, Miss Alandia.
I suggested that you shouldn’t be so serious, but this kind of…this kind of sick joke doesn’t suit you!”
Alandia finally responded to him with a succinct conclusion.
“This is the deepest part.”
Then how could this be explained?
At the deepest part of the dream, there should be Spirit Light, there should be essence, but this book…
Gongsun Ce impatiently rapped on the cover of the Book Without Words, crying out like a child, “There’s nothing in this book!
Absolutely nothing!!”
He threw the Book Without Words aside and carefully inspected the massive book covers that were wrapped around it, hoping to find the real content within.
But he was disappointed; they weren’t even books, just ornate, empty shells.
Gongsun Ce pushed all the book covers onto the floor and sat back down on the bed.
“…Ha.”
He grasped his head with both hands and started to laugh softly.
He understood now.
He had ticulously prepared so many layers of outer clothing, so many reasons for himself; when soone sensed sothing wrong, he just had to pull out another book from “deeper within.” Each book looked very thick, enough to carry a lifeti for a person.
His disguise was too cunning, no one would have thought that after peeling away so many layers of shells, breaking through so many surfaces, what they ended up with was another fake book.
He had even deceived himself; whenever he had any self-doubting thoughts, he would imdiately look at the cover of one of them to ease his mind, to reassure himself that he could go through his daily life…
Now he could no longer hide it.
No matter what, he couldn’t hide it.
Even if he tried to deceive himself again, Dawn Knight wouldn’t forget the truth.
“Hehehe.”
He began to chuckle, his shoulders shaking, his laughter increasingly shrill.
“Hehehe, wuwuwu, hahahahahahaha!”
Gongsun Ce’s laughter was painfully sharp, as if it would pierce his eardrums.
Slapping his thigh, he laughed until tears ca out, rocking back and forth.
“It seems I have no Spirit Light, Miss Alandia!
I have nothing, hahahahaha!”
Gongsun Ce felt his emotions were excessively intense, dramatically more so than in the real world.
But he thought this was normal; this was the reaction a person should have, the most genuine feelings in the human soul after casting off all the complex and unnecessary restraints.
So he felt even more justified, flinging his cloak, and laughing out loud.
“Look how beautiful the outside of this book is, just like my outfit.
I’m nothing but a clown, fishing for applause…what am I even living for?”
The laughter shook the building, and everything in sight began to tremble.
Outside the window, a fierce wind blew, sand filled the sky, and the black sun shone even more brightly.
He seed to have awakened sothing deep within his heart, sothing even sharper than his laughter, as if a large fish hidden in the sea of sand had bitten the hook and was about to be pulled out by the fisherman in the sky, revealing its full figure from the depths of the yellow sand.
The power that brought destruction was now about to erge, to help him escape his predicant!
He rejoiced sincerely.
This was perfect, precisely his destination.
This was the most fitting end for him.
·
Back in reality, Yan Qi cursed loudly.
“Shit, resonated before even finding the Spirit Light End Sword!”
