Chapter 1208: Chapter 103: The Forgotten Promise (Part 3)

Seviss stared at him motionlessly, until he felt uneasy from being watched.

“Hey handso, has anyone ever told you you’re smart?”

“My master always says I’m stupid.”

“Co on, it’s that man in black who’s too arrogant.” Seviss said, “Things are almost as you said. You’ve probably seen the King of Skeleton, right? That’s what happens when one’s heart and intentions are polluted. Back then, to avoid becoming so creepy naked woman after I died, I had them cremate my body, and yet I ended up as a ghost anyway…”

Seviss withdrew her gaze and looked at the stars scattered across the night sky.

“Over this thousand years, I’ve been a nun, a sailor, and sotis even a cowboy and a bandit. I rember before I lost my mory last ti, I was a traveler, but now I’ve beco a Ranger… I did this kind of work before going into religion, who would’ve thought I’d go back to my old occupation a thousand years later…”

She rambled on about a lot of fragnted things, many parts seeming like a mad person’s delusions, randomly pieced together from unrelated matters. Her way of addressing Gongsun Ce changed continuously during this, starting as “handso,” later becoming “kid” and “student,” then turning into “David” and “Anisi,” nas of strangers. Listening to her account filled Gongsun Ce with sadness, afraid that in Seviss’s eyes, the world was probably countless overlapping mories, she was narrating past events to a new friend while revealing truth to old ones.

But those people had long since departed, leaving her alone to wander this land, walking an endless repetition of pilgrimages. This behavior was probably an implied suggestion left by the previous Seviss… for besides this, she had nothing else to do.

“Look, it’s already 1674… oh, I ssed up, it’s actually 2010 now.” Seviss gave her head a small knock, “Anyway, that’s it. Luckily, I haven’t rembered much, otherwise, I might directly go mad.”

“Do you still rember the Angels? And the hidden laws?”

“Rember very little, I myself am puzzled.” Seviss laughed with tears, “Soone like , known for being so flamboyant, now goes around with a natural invisibility and forgetfulness effect…”

Gongsun Ce couldn’t help but ask, “What do you plan to do next?”

“I don’t know.” Seviss said, “Now that the mory lock is lifted, maybe if I go to the gravesite to sleep a bit, I might recall more things, even recover so permissions to help—don’t expect the powers of yore, I died a thousand years ago. But if I recover those long-lost mories, am I still the Ranger Seviss I am now?

Honestly, I’m kind of scared, I could reseal the mories and continue being Ranger Seviss, that way I’d feel much lighter… But this would just maintain my current state, stuck between novice and adept.”

The female Ranger turned to Gongsun Ce, seemingly seeking his opinion. Gongsun Ce felt a lump in his throat, struggling to say anything. He should advise Seviss to reclaim her powers, which would be most beneficial to the larger cause, yet a thousand years is such a long ti, even if one lives a full century, that’s a full ten lifetis. During this millennium, she must have witnessed countless joys and sorrows, and those mories, whether happy or painful, have long beco dust of history.

Can she face it calmly? How could she not be sad? Those mories could turn her into an entirely different person, like a weary old monk who’s seen through ti, and then the Ranger he knows would cease to exist, Seviss would truly die.

“From the perspective of a swordsman, I’d hope you visit the burial ground.” Gongsun Ce sat up, “But as your friend, I genuinely advise you to continue being a Ranger. Damn it, a thousand years ago you gave your all for Ustus, what does the chaos a millennium later have to do with you? Like you said, you died a thousand years ago, now you finally have a second life, just live as happily as you can!”

“Hahaha!”

Seviss burst into laughter, holding her belly, laughing until she was breathless. Gongsun Ce felt a bit embarrassed, “Damn, what are you laughing at?”

“It’s just, your tone really resembles your master! No wonder I liked you from the start, you’re quite my cup of tea!”

The female Ranger rolled over and leaped up from the rooftop. With her back to the moonlight, she put a hand on her hip, revealing a huge smile hidden in the shadows, identical to the mirage of the forr Saint.

“But one thing is sure—from a thousand years ago, I’ve always been an adventurer at heart, after a whole millennium of journeying, not being able to see the whole picture is too frustrating. So I still intend to visit the burial ground, gotta satisfy my curiosity…”

Seviss suddenly bent down, whispering, “Hey, handso, help with a request, will you?”

“Just tell what you need.”

“Ranger Seviss has traveled a long ti in the United States, you are the last friend she knows.” Seviss said, “If, and I an if, I co out from the burial ground as another person… I’d ask you to tell the of then, what kind of person ‘Ranger Seviss’ really was!”

The female Ranger laughed lively as usual, yet Gongsun Ce saw a thin layer of mist in her eyes. That faint illusion disappeared in an instant, seeming like it was his overly sentintal imagination.

“No problem.” Gongsun Ce clenched his fist, “I have a good mory, you’ve t plenty of other friends in the United States too, I’ll try to bring them to find you… I promise.”

“Thanks a bunch!”

Seviss straightened with a mischievous smile, placing her fingers on her lips and blowing him a kiss. Gongsun Ce chuckled at the absurdity of the act, “It’s already 2010, still pulling this corny move?”

Seviss raised her thumb, proudly pointing at herself, “Female allure won’t be outdated even after a thousand years!”

With a light jump, she leaped into the night of lt Valley City. Gongsun Ce thought to himself, this lady truly is quirky, like a wild monkey that jumped out of the forest, one can never guess what she’ll do next. If she went on a cri spree, even Alandia would have a headache, she’s the kind of person who would openly write ‘Murderer Seviss’ at the cri scene before swaggering away, so carefree it’s enviable.

Gongsun Ce flew down from the church do and walked alone in the depths of lt Valley City at night. He felt a bit desolate, with nothing to say, raised his head to gaze silently at the moon, until his phone rang with a dull reminder.

“Gongsun Ce, it’s now 1:35 AM.” Qiluo said, “You should get so rest, there’s a lot to do tomorrow.”

“I will.” Gongsun Ce said, “I’m still a bit upset, I can’t help her at all.”

“Jago Drususi probably feels the sa way, that’s why he’s upset too…”

Gongsun Ce nodded quietly, gaining a deeper understanding of the old man’s anguish. There are many things waiting for him, the totem battle has already comnced tonight, the plan for the decisive raid on teor City needs further discussion. He’ll seldom have such spare ti after resting for a full day.

The decisive battle is near.
