In Huaxia, not many people study Arabic, and precisely because of that, Arabic teachers are even scarcer, and full-ti Arabic instructors are practically as rare as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns. In the several liberal arts universities of Yangchuan City, there are plenty of students studying English, French, German, Russian, and Japanese, but very few study Arabic, and even fewer are capable of doing simultaneous interpretation.
The Arabic translator currently employed at his neighborhood committee had been specially transferred from the municipal governnt's foreign affairs office by Wang Jian She. Suming had heard that if he left the governnt to go into business as a professional interpreter, he could easily make a yearly inco of more than a hundred thousand.
In Iraq, English is also a semi-official language, and many young people of the Lure People not only speak Arabic, but the soldiers who have retired from the two army platoons can basically conduct simple conversations in English. Several of the squad and platoon leaders speak English as fluently as their mother tongue.
