Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Guessing Right
Upon arriving at the company, Xu Yingying still gave Zheng Xiuqin a call, informing her that Li Yifei had sent her out on an assignnt, so she would not be able to punch in today.
With the boss’s explanation, Zheng Xiuqin naturally couldn’t count Li Yifei as absent from work, but she did have so doubts in her mind, wondering if Li Yifei was really soone arranged by President Xu. Otherwise, Xu Yingying wouldn’t have personally called in sick for Li Yifei. It seed she shouldn’t underestimate this Li Yifei.
The personnel relationships within the company were pretty much like those in governnt departnts. As leaders, they always needed to figure out what the higher-ups were thinking. If they accidentally offended the bosses, they would definitely face trouble later. Even though Xu Yingying had always been fair in her managent, she had never arranged for her own people before, so it was better to be cautious with Li Yifei.
Xu Yingying didn’t intend to disturb Li Yifei, but his phone rang bright and early nonetheless.
Li Yifei was sound asleep. He really hadn’t slept well the night before. Although not sleeping all night didn’t really affect soone with his physique, he had gotten used to this comfortable life after nearly three months in the city, and going without sleep was quite uncomfortable. He glanced at the caller ID—it was Chu Xiaoyao—and then at the ti, sighing a little before answering. Xiaoyao’s voice imdiately ca from the other end, "Uncle, why haven’t you shown up yet?"
Li Yifei yawned and said, "I didn’t sleep well last night. I’ll be at the company later, you go to school by yourself."
"You lousy uncle, you’re so unreliable. You don’t even let
know if you’re not going to work, making
wait for ages. I’m going to be late!"
"Sorry about that. Anyway, I’m moving out in a couple of days, so you’ll have to get to school on your own."
"Hmph, I’m ignoring you!" Chu Xiaoyao said and hung up the phone in a huff.
Li Yifei tossed his phone aside and then fell back onto his bed to resu his deep sleep. It was already past the ti to go to work, and Xu Yingying hadn’t woken him up, which obviously ant she was thankful and had let him rest at ho. With President Xu backing him up, he naturally could take a day off.
However, before he could get back to sleep, the phone rang again—this ti, it was Xu Shanshan’s number, which made Li Yifei rather annoyed. He answered the call and said, "Shanshan, what’s up?"
Xu Shanshan chuckled and asked, "Brother-in-law, are you at work?"
"No, I’m at ho sleeping. Your sister had a fever last night, and I took care of her the whole night. Now I’m catching up on so sleep."
"Ah, my sister had a fever? How is she now?"
"She’s fine, went to work. Shanshan, if there’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up. I’m dead tired."
"Wait, brother-in-law, hehe, I feel like you’re too worn out, that’s so dull."
"Shanshan," he said, "I’m at your sister’s place right now. Do you need to try the landline again?"
Xu Shanshan giggled and replied, "No need at all. So let
ask you this, brother-in-law, since you and my sister are living together, have you guys already slept together?"
Li Yifei instantly felt a headache coming on at Xu Shanshan’s question, but then a thought struck him, and he replied sowhat awkwardly, "Although I’m with your sister, you know her personality; she wouldn’t agree so easily. So, we’re still innocent. Last ti we went back, she only let
stay in the sa room with her to reassure our aunt and uncle, but actually, nothing has happened between us."
Xu Shanshan exclaid in surprise, "No way? You guys are really dating!"
Li Yifei breathed a sigh of relief, knowing his judgnt was correct. Xu Shanshan must have noticed that he and Xu Yingying weren’t that close, which was why she had always thought their relationship was fake. He said, "Of course, we’re dating. What else would we be doing?"
"That’s so la, utterly la." Xu Shanshan sounded clearly very disappointed.
Li Yifei chuckled and replied, "I think it’s not too bad. These things have to happen naturally."
"There’s still a man like you around, my sister has really found a treasure, sigh sigh..."
"Alright, Shanshan, I’ve told you the truth, so stop grilling us. You’re making
nervous. I’m afraid I’ll give you the wrong impression; I don’t even dare to go out at night. Give
a few days off, okay?"
"Okay, okay, I won’t bother you anymore. But brother-in-law, you have to keep the promise you made to ."
"Don’t worry, if I promised you sothing, I will definitely do it."
"I knew it, brother-in-law; you’re the most reliable. Hehe, well then, I wish you success in winning over my sister soon, giggle..."
Xu Shanshan’s mood changed quickly; she had just been sulking, but soon she was cheerful again. After so idle chatter, Xu Shanshan finally hung up the phone.
Fortunately, Xu Shanshan didn’t call right back, so Li Yifei packed up his things, and before leaving Xu Yingying’s ho, he still made a phone call to her.
"I’m leaving."
"What do you an you’re leaving?" Xu Yingying was sitting in her office looking at docunts, and when she heard Li Yifei’s abrupt statent, she imdiately asked in confusion.
"Shanshan won’t bother us anymore."
"Why? Did you tell her the truth?" Xu Yingying suddenly exclaid.
"No..." Li Yifei recounted to Xu Yingying what he had said to Xu Shanshan.
After listening, Xu Yingying was quite embarrassed but also relieved that her sister would believe it, saying, "Then I owe you big ti. But if needed, please help
again."
"No problem, as long as I’m not tied up like this every day. If sothing cos up in the future, I’m at your service."
"Alright..." Just as Xu Yingying was about to hang up, she rembered that Li Yifei had not gone to work today and quickly said, "I already called in sick for you today, so take a good rest. Co back to work tomorrow, and I’ll sort things out with Shanshan."
As expected of a president, she quickly adjusted her mindset.
Li Yifei was now relaxed, whistling as he left Xu Yingying’s place. However, the mont he closed the door, he felt a pang of reluctance. Shaking his head and smiling, Li Yifei thought even if Xu Yingying was great, she wasn’t the woman he needed. So, he left her ho nonchalantly and went to his own.
Lying in his own bed, Li Yifei felt inexplicably comfortable. Just as he closed his eyes and was ready to get so good sleep, the knocking at the door started again, filling him with imnse frustration. What was it about today that made it so hard to have a decent nap?
He considered ignoring it, but then he heard the voice of the flight attendant ng Xiaofei from outside: "Brother Li, please open the door, it’s , ng Xiaofei."
Li Yifei had no choice but to get up, go to the door, and upon opening it, he saw ng Xiaofei smiling at him, holding a box in her hand.
"This is for you." ng Xiaofei presented the box to Li Yifei.
"For ?" Li Yifei looked at the beautiful flight attendant in surprise. It was the first ti he had received a woman’s gift since returning to Mile City.
"Yeah, I went on a flight recently, and while at the shopping store there, I saw a n’s watch that looked quite nice. I noticed you didn’t have a watch, so I bought one for you."
Li Yifei took the box from her hands, saying, "You really think of
a lot. Well, I won’t be polite then, co in and sit down."
ng Xiaofei followed Li Yifei inside with her hands behind her back. Once they were in the living room, and she was seated on the sofa, he said, "Thank you for thinking of bringing
a gift."
With a mischievous flick of her tongue, ng Xiaofei replied, "I’m just bribing you a little, so I can co over and mooch als off you in the future."
"You’re certainly straightforward. But since you’ve given
a gift, I guess I have no choice but to let you mooch off . That way, I won’t feel bad about accepting your gift."
"Exactly! Try it on now, see if it fits. If it doesn’t, I can exchange it for another design next ti I fly out."
Li Yifei took out the watch, a black one that resembled a Rado. He didn’t know much about watches, but having t many wealthy people, he could tell that this watch was likely a high-end replica, not very expensive, which ant no burden on his conscience. After putting it on, he smiled and said, "Not bad, not bad. Now I’m a ’watch brother’ too."
Giggling, ng Xiaofei playfully said, "That ’watch brother’ probably has a lot of them, and you only have one. It seems I’ll have to buy you a few more."
"Enough, enough, one is all I need. Anyway, how did you co knocking just as I got ho?"
"I ca back yesterday, but you were never at ho when I knocked. I just heard you opening the door and knew you were back, so I ca to look for you. Also, I haven’t eaten since last night; I’m starving."
Li Yifei was both annoyed and amused, saying, "It looks like you really do treat this place like a canteen. But since there’s not much food at ho, I’ll go out and buy so." It seed that he wouldn’t be able to get any sleep today, and now that he had received a watch from ng Xiaofei, he felt obligated to cook for her.
"I’m coming too!" ng Xiaofei imdiately called out excitedly.
