Alfonso’s Sacred Remains couldn’t be stored and sealed as the Heart of Justice could.

The Bone of Fearlessness, nurtured by the essence of the Sacred Remains, possessed a considerable degree of activity.

If it were to be suddenly and forcefully extracted, there would inevitably be a mont of confusion—comfortably settled here I am, with the original host being the very embodint of fearlessness, why would you dig out?

That’s not even to ntion the transplantation—if you’d find another host, I’d have no complaints... But you extracted just to seal away?

The Sacred Remains would then imdiately go berserk.

Without a brain, the Sacred Remains would mindlessly unleash all previously stored power until it ran out... and then it would have to be filled into Dragon Sleep Liquor.

There surely wouldn’t be any problems with Professor Grey.

The Sacred Remains, bereft of a host and unable to absorb emotions, couldn’t threaten a Gold-Tier Transcendent. Even a silver-Tier Transcendent might not necessarily die.

But others would definitely suffer the consequences.

Alfonso, with nearly all his bones extracted, couldn’t even think of fleeing—if no imdiate treatnt was administered, even if his life were sustained by rituals, he might not last much longer before kicking the bucket.

Besides, if the transplantation were to fail, he would still die.

That would be a tad better, though, as the transplant recipient would have to join him in death. At least they’re together in the afterlife, not so lonely on the road to Yellow Springs.

And if Alfonso doesn’t complete the transplantation by July, he would still die in the end.

This purely luck-based operation only has an added bonus at the beginning of July. Missing this opportunity ans waiting another year; Alfonso’s physical condition couldn’t last another year.

Since Alfonso survived,

It ans Professor Grey not only had a transplant recipient but also succeeded in the end. Only then could Alfonso have been saved.

As long as the one receiving the Sacred Remains transplantation isn’t the Winter Reverser, Annan doesn’t care who it is. Besides, Annan isn’t interested in the "Bone of Fearlessness"—after all, the Sacred Remains consist of multiple bones.

Specifically, from the spine to the ribs, to the collarbones, from the scapulae to the ulnae and radii. To put it simply, the bones that can be extracted from the upper body of a prone person... when pieced together, they could possibly form an Eternal Nightmare or a Ghost Stone.

It ans that when the host of the Bone of Fearlessness feels fear, all of these bones would fly out.

That’s freaking terrifying.

And at present, Annan’s greatest enemy is The Worm.

Frankly, Annan has no idea whether he would feel fear towards The Worm.

The Worm is, after all, the enemy of civilization. Being individually pitted against such a scale of an enemy... It would be impossible for Annan to guarantee he wouldn’t feel fear.

Nor could Annan possibly inject himself with the essence of the Sacred Remains concocted by Professor Grey.

Annan fundantally mistrusted Professor Grey.

Not to ntion allowing him, unresisting, to prick his scalp with a sharp syringe; injecting his body with so strange liquid of an unclear formula...

He felt relieved not to inherit the Bone of Fearlessness, as it would only make Annan feel fortunate.

Yet he was still curious.

Considering the current situation... with both the Winter Reverser and the Ship in Stone captain dealt with by Annan, The Unfallen Shield erased by Professor Grey himself, how many Golds were left in the Underground City?

Could it be that Professor Grey himself stepped up in the end?

Annan certainly didn’t think his condition would be accepted by the Bone of Fearlessness.

Subsequently, Annan heard a na from Naifertali’s mouth that he had never considered before:

—Niusel.

The young Digger who was dispatched by the Winter Principality to the Underground City as a spy, who to this day has not yet been activated. He is also the overseer of the Sporogenesis Mill.

At the sa ti, he is also Naifertali’s boyfriend—or it could also be said, fiancé. Aside from not having married formally and not having obtained a marriage certificate, there is no difference between them and a true married couple.

Moreover, Annan knew why they hadn’t gotten married... because Niusel was still concerned about being a spy.

Although the Underground City does not enforce the laws of the various city-states and usually turns a blind eye to the spies of the nations, it’s even commonplace for individuals to bribe local Diggers and scholars aboveground to indirectly control a state within the Underground City.

But Niusel still worried, if he were to be discovered as a spy, then Naifertali might also suffer due to his involvent.

"But Niusel isn’t a Transcendent!"

Annan couldn’t help but say: "Isn’t he just an ordinary person? I rember that Niusel isn’t even a Transcendent."

It’s absurd for an ordinary person to inherit a Saint’s bone.

"Indeed."

Naifertali sighed: "Both he and I are not Transcendents—I only learned rituals back then, not Spells. So we also talked about, if we ever had the chance... like if the Sporogenesis Mill finds a new scholar or Digger, we could travel to other countries.

"But two months ago, Alfonso ca to my house to say goodbye."

"Goodbye?"

"Yes," Naifertali nodded, "my teacher couldn’t possibly let the Grand Duke of Winter inherit the Saint’s bone— even if it’s by transplantation, there is at least a 15% risk of death. If he did so, the Winter’s Hand would probably soon be upon us.

"The Winter Reverser is already dead, and the Ship in Stone’s captain has mysteriously disappeared. It’s been a long ti since the story of The Unfallen Shield Silver had been serialized... as if the captain died sowhere unknown.

"If they really couldn’t find anyone, then Alfonso would have to Sacrifice himself to seal the Saint’s bone, dying far away from civilization beyond the Mist... I guess I wouldn’t even see his corpse ever again.

"So he ca to see one last ti, leaving behind so things. So were his inheritance, and so were for to rember him by... And then Niusel found out about this.

"After being silent for a while, he asked —could he inherit the Saint’s bone?

"Theoretically speaking, it is possible for an ordinary person to inherit the Saint’s bone.

"Because if the Saint’s bone isn’t sealed and exists in a completely uncontrolled state within the great barrier, it’s entirely possible to be tempted by a ’mortal whose emotions suddenly beco very strong’."

In fact, after ordinary people obtain the Saint’s bone, their life essence is directly elevated to the Gold Tier. After their death, they will also form troubleso Twisted Tier nightmares on the spot.

The real problem is that these ordinary people have not experienced the Silver Tier; they are completely "mortals".

Only the Transcendents with the soul of Silver can stabilize their minds—at this point, they can advance and obtain the original professions stored in the Saint’s bone.

And at Gold Tier, if they are Steadfast and eternal like gold, once they grasp the Saint’s bone, they can live for a very long ti as long as they don’t wish to die.

But for ordinary people, at most one month... they will gradually cool down.

Ordinary people don’t really have much of a stance, nor are they extre. They are neither chaotic nor orderly, neither evil nor good, just the majority who muddle along listlessly and drift with the flow.

But according to the chanics of the Saint’s bone, once a Saint denies the vow made at the ti of obtaining the Saint’s bone, the Saint’s bone will discard them.

"Even if Niusel really did inherit the Saint, once he regrets it, he will die; and the Saint’s bone extracts that can deceive the Saint’s bone, even Alfonso couldn’t endure...

"So I told him straight out—you can’t use the Saint’s bone extract, so you can’t beco a Saint. What I ant was that since brother Alfonso is beyond saving, at least don’t you also leave .

"But after being silent for a while, he left. I don’t know where he went, but he didn’t return for several days, and I began to panic. Because the Sporogenesis Mill has already been encircled by the teacher’s ritual, he can’t leave at all.

"On the fourth day after that, he returned with the teacher. They brought back a piece of news... I don’t know whether it’s good or bad.

"Alfonso may have a chance to be saved. Although it’s only a chance... because Niusel passed the Saint’s bone test.

"——He truly can beco a Fearless Saint, without the need for injection of the extract."

At this point, Naifertali had a complex expression on her face.
