"But since the internal spy incident had long been settled, there was no reason for Sister Mina to call Jake over so late, especially during the holidays."

Even the usually infallible ability to hear inner voices failed this ti, not because the superpower was ineffective, but because Manager Mina simply wasn’t thinking much.

When considering the advantages of hearing inner voices, they were quite clear. If Jake had to na a few drawbacks, he believed the first was that when facing the "inner voices" of multiple won, although he could adjust the volu of certain individuals’ "inner voices," it was ultimately a temporary fix. With too many won present, Jake couldn’t actively stop the intrusion and could only let the voices flood his mind.

The second drawback was exemplified by Manager Mina’s situation. If the person in question was single-minded, no matter how hard Jake tried, it would be futile.

Jake felt uneasy under Manager Mina’s gaze and could only steer the conversation back to the earlier topic. "Sister Mina, I really do want to be promoted to team leader, but according to company rules, I’m not qualified yet."

"That’s sothing I already told you not to worry about. I’ll report it to the higher-ups. You’ve just joined the company and have already made such significant contributions. Doesn’t that outweigh a re year of work experience?"

"Then I’ll thank Sister Mina in advance."

"Why so polite with ?"

"If there’s nothing else, I should get going." Jake wanted to leave this troubleso situation as soon as possible.

Although Manager Mina’s looks and figure were outstanding in every way, her personality was sothing Jake could never quite grasp. Through hearing inner voices, he could only vaguely sense that Manager Mina seed sowhat interested in him.

As Cabel had said, the "witch" truly lived up to her na.

On top of that, Jake and Manager Mina weren’t close enough for her to dress so casually in front of him, right?

Knowing Jake was coming, she hadn’t even bothered to change out of her revealing white nightgown. What was that about?

"Could it be that Sister Mina likes ?" The mont this thought crossed Jake’s mind, he imdiately dismissed it.

Because it was simply impossible.

First, from a subjective standpoint, Manager Mina’s appearance and figure were so outstanding that they made ordinary girls feel inferior. Though Jake wasn’t bad-looking, his abilities and financial situation were far behind hers.

Though Jake didn’t know much about Manager Mina’s background, soone who could cultivate such a confident and noble woman like her probably had parents who were equally impressive.

Mina watched Jake with amusent, his conflicted expression utterly adorable.

"Why the rush? You haven’t even finished your coffee. It’s not even 8 yet. Do you have a girlfriend waiting for you at ho?"

Jake forced an awkward smile and began gulping down his coffee, not even tasting it properly.

"Look at you, so easy to tease!" Mina simply assud that since Jake had co over at this hour, he couldn’t possibly have a girlfriend. But she had no idea Jake had just co from his aunt’s house.

His real girlfriend was far away in another country.

"We’ve talked about work. Can’t we chat about sothing else? Can’t you keep your Sister Mina company for a drink?"

"Drinking in the middle of the night... typical Manager Mina, always so unpredictable."

Jake didn’t dare agree. Once the drinks started flowing, he probably wouldn’t be leaving this two-story villa tonight.

"Sister Mina, you’re joking, right? I have to drive."

"Aren’t you on vacation? What’s the problem?"

Jake was montarily speechless. If he were a woman and Manager Mina were a man, he could understand the ulterior motives.

But Jake was a grown man. Drinking with her at night—wasn’t she afraid of...

"That’s true, but if I drink, I won’t be able to go ho. It’s hard to get a taxi at this hour..." Jake gradually noticed the icy look in Manager Mina’s eyes and sighed inwardly. "Forget it. If it ans getting promoted, what’s a little sacrifice of dignity?"

Seeing Jake fall silent, Mina asked, "Changed your mind? Will you drink with ?"

As if he’d just gone through an internal struggle, Jake replied, "Yeah, Sister Mina. Tonight, I’ll risk my life to keep you company."

"It’s ’keep a lady company,’ not a gentleman. Wait here." With that, Manager Mina left the coffee room, her footsteps echoing as she went downstairs.

A mont later, the sound of her footsteps returned as she ca back upstairs.

The alluring Manager Mina carried two bottles of imported liquor.

Jake had so experience in the drinking scene and recognized the label "EXO." The alcohol content wasn’t too high.

He had assud Manager Mina only enjoyed wine, but it seed her collection was far more extensive.

If Jake had gone downstairs to see the wine cabinet, he would’ve been stunned by the array of bottles from various countries. Manager Mina didn’t just enjoy drinking—she loved collecting liquor too.

Mina had no interest in people she didn’t care about. She wouldn’t even bother having tea with them.

But Jake was different. Mina had grown fond of this exceptionally capable young man through their brief interactions.

This year, Sister Yana had been especially insistent about Mina finding a partner. It wasn’t that Mina disliked n—it was just that very few could et her standards.

So were lacking in looks, others in height. So were too dull-witted, making conversation impossible...

Compared to these, financial status was the least of her concerns.

There was also a secret buried deep in her heart, the most important reason she had remained single for so long.

Her admiration for her brother.

She opened the bottle and poured a glass for Jake and herself.

"Cheers!" Without waiting for Jake’s response, she downed it in one go.

These two bottles of EXO had been a gift from her brother before his death. Mina had always treasured them, but tonight, she brought them out for Jake.

The strong liquor burned her throat, sending her thoughts spiraling.
