Chapter 964: Chapter 389 Philosophical Questions_2 Chapter 964: Chapter 389 Philosophical Questions_2 Yan Fei still had too many questions for that mysterious Old Man Gu. Regrettably, since the last appearance of Old Man Gu, who provided Yan Fei with clues to rescue Lu Pingping, he had vanished without a trace. Even when Yan Fei later searched for Old Man Gu on the global Internet through the artificial intelligence “Dream,” he found no sign of him. Thus, so of Yan Fei’s questions remained unanswered, and the mystery of Old Man Gu deepened.

What Yan Fei didn’t know was that on the night he proposed to Wen Rou, because he was completely focused on the proposal ceremony, he failed to notice that Lu Pingping was nearby. After watching Yan Fei’s proposal, Lu Pingping imdiately returned ho, locked herself in, and decided the next day to leave Dream Island and head back to her hotown for the Spring Festival.

Looking at Wen Rou happily bustling in the kitchen, Yan Fei thought about how this woman would beco his wife and spend the rest of her life with him, and his heart filled with a sense of peace and joy.

Wen Rou had prepared a lot of ingredients, so it would take quite so ti before everything was ready. But when Yan Fei wanted to help, Wen Rou pushed him out of the kitchen, insisting that she would handle the cooking by herself and that Yan Fei should just watch television at ho.

Unfortunately, ti on Dream Island was three hours ahead of China, and the nightly special program—the Spring Festival Gala—hadn’t started yet. So for a while, Yan Fei was actually a bit bored. Thus, he entered the study, turned on a computer inside, and began playing a very old standalone computer ga—Swordsman Romance.

Before acquiring his Drone Avatar, Yan Fei was a typical otaku, whose only hobby was staying at ho to work out and play gas. However, Yan Fei preferred playing classic standalone gas, enjoying the thrill of completely finishing them, and was not very interested in large-scale online gas. He thought that compared to the money-grabbing tendencies of online gas, standalone gas had more substance and were more fun.

However, after getting the Drone Avatar, Yan Fei had been busy upgrading the drone and had not had much ti to play gas. It was unexpected that on this Lunar New Year’s Eve, Yan Fei actually had so ti to play gas.

Yan Fei controlled the mouse and keyboard as if he had returned to the days when he was an otaku at ho, cheerfully playing this once-popular standalone ga from many years ago. When playing, he completely relaxed his mind, as if he had entered the ga himself, dominating in the ga world.

As he continued to defeat monsters in the ga, Yan Fei’s character levelled up quickly. With various high-level equipnt, his character’s strength grew increasingly powerful. But as the ga progressed, the strength of the Big Bosses the character encountered also increased. When he reached the third level, facing a thief chieftain Big Boss, his character was no match and kept getting slaughtered, leading to repeated ga restarts.

At so point, Wen Rou began to simr soup in the kitchen, and during the waiting, she ca and sat beside Yan Fei, silently watching him play the ga. After being killed by the Big Boss several tis in a row, Yan Fei beca sowhat frustrated. He didn’t want to spend more ti levelling up, so he logged onto the internet and downloaded a Variable Speed Gear to modify the ga data of Swordsman Romance.

Yan Fei first changed the data of the Big Boss, reducing its health to just a sliver. Then he logged back into the ga, guided his character to find the Big Boss once more, and with a single attack, the once-imposing Big Boss collapsed with a grand explosion, dropping loot, while Yan Fei’s character began levelling up.

Finally having defeated the blocking Big Boss, Yan Fei breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back comfortably on the couch, only to see a sowhat puzzled look in Wen Rou’s eyes.

Yan Fei hadn’t expected Wen Rou to notice him cheating in the ga. He laughed awkwardly and said, “Haha, Little Rou, that Boss was too tough. I didn’t want to waste ti here, so I modified its data to make it fall over with just a touch.”

Wen Rou said, “I suddenly thought of sothing.”

Yan Fei asked, “What did you think of?”

Wen Rou replied, “What if the NPCs in the ga all had their own thoughts? Like that Big Boss, who doesn’t know he’s a ga character and instead believes he’s a real person. Then you modified the ga data, and he died like that. Would he find it strange when he died?”

Yan Fei paused, then laughed, “If that Big Boss really had his own thoughts, he would indeed find it incredible to be so easily killed, and he might even doubt his own existence. But the reality is not like that; these NPCs are just strings of data, composed of various codes, without any self-consciousness, so your idea, though stunning, doesn’t really hold much value.”

Wen Rou said, “But you’re not that Big Boss, how do you know he didn’t have his own thoughts at the last mont? When he thought he was invincible, and then suddenly, through so thod he couldn’t understand at all, his strength was reduced to the extre, and then he was instantly killed by soone he looked down upon. His heart must be filled with despair, right?”
