Chapter 322: Chapter 172: Sneaking in on a Rainy Night
The drone surged upstream along the bed of the Seine River at an extrely high speed, and by the ti it reached the downtown area of Paris, it was already 10:30 pm. At that mont, the ominous, heavy clouds above Paris suddenly brightened as a colossal bolt of lightning materialized out of nowhere, splitting the sky in two. Then, an earth-shaking peal of thunder roared, numbing people’s ears and instilling fear in their hearts.
Starting with that lightning strike, electrical lights continuously flashed in the sky above Paris, countless thunderbolts rapidly appearing as if competing with each other, filling the entire sky like a net of electricity, followed by the incessant sound of massive thunderclaps. For a while, Paris was beset by apocalyptic scenes of earth-shattering thunderstorms as though the end of the world had co, and then the long-brewing torrential rain finally began to pour down.
Yan Fei was also startled by the thunderous weather outside. Standing by the window, he watched the constant lightning and thunder outside, and the heavy rain against the window, his heart racing with secret alarm. Having lived for over two decades, it was the first ti he had witnessed such extre, hostile weather. It was October, and Paris had already entered autumn; no one had expected such a fearso downpour at this ti. In recent years, extre weather events had beco more frequent and widespread worldwide, a stark contrast to the once-in-several-centuries occurrences of the past. Could it be that humanity’s environntal destruction had reached a tipping point and that nature was issuing a warning in this manner?
In such terrifying torrential rain, not only were thunder and lightning rging, but violent winds were rampant, and no one dared to walk outside. People invariably chose to hide in their rooms. Compared to the outside world’s apocalyptic terror, the small rooms felt much safer. Even the Paris police, who maintained order, stayed inside the police station instead of patrolling the streets. In the eyes of these officers, criminal acts were unthinkable in such severe weather, and even walking outside was extrely difficult. So, it was the safest ti, and no patrolling was necessary.
Although Yan Fei was shocked by the severity of the weather, he already had his action plan for the night, and he had to execute it regardless of the adverse conditions. As he sensed the drone’s location, he found it had arrived at the section of the Seine River beneath the Ritz Hotel. He drew back the curtain of his room and saw the storm of thunder, lightning, and violent winds in the sky above, while below, the city was dark and deserted. He looked carefully at the river below, and with his terrifying vision, he instantly spotted a huge shadow in the water—it was his Drone Avatar. At this mont, the drone had halted its advance, stealthily lurking at the bottom of the water, motionless.
Yan Fei checked the equipnt and items in Universal Space once again and then marked the door of his room. After everything was in place, he exerted himself, and his muscles and bones shifted within his body. His physique rapidly inflated like it was being pumped with air, transforming into a two-ter-tall giant in an instant. He then took out a set of black nightwear, put it on, and lastly, donned a mask of a sinister ghost. In just a mont, Yan Fei had disguised himself as a man in black, virtually indistinguishable from his original body features.
Yan Fei opened the window and stepped onto the balcony outside. He turned and closed the window behind him, took a deep breath to psyche himself up, and then, with a leap, he jumped down from the balcony. Almost simultaneously, the drone lurking at the bottom of the Seine River swiftly surfaced, its cockpit hatch opening quickly. And it was at this very mont that Yan Fei jumped from high above, landing perfectly in the cockpit and settling into the seat.
After picking up Yan Fei, the drone imdiately sealed the cockpit door and sank back to the riverbed, then continued its underwater voyage upstream along the Seine River. The Seine is a symbol of Paris, and the Municipal Governnt routinely carries out sedint dredging of the river each year, making the section within Paris downtown the deepest, with an average depth of more than thirty ters. With the drone’s nearly seven-ter size, it had plenty of room to navigate this part of the river.
Just two kiloters upstream, the drone reached its ultimate destination—the Paris 1er Arrondissent, the location of the Louvre Museum. Yan Fei had previously reconstructed a terrain map of the Louvre using various docunts, photos, videos, and his own experiences. For this operation, he had also downloaded a map of Paris’s Underground Pipeline Network from the Internet. Therefore, he was very familiar with the underground world of pipeline routes in Paris. Combining the Louvre’s terrain map and the Underground Pipeline Network map with so official records of the Louvre, he quickly located an entrance to a passageway shown as abandoned in the riverbed.
The Louvre Palace was built by the forr emperors of France, with over half of the structures located above ground. However, for safety, the emperors included several escape routes in the design, all of which were located underground. Hence, beneath the surface, there are nurous secret structures of massive proportions, deed another Louvre Museum in itself. It’s just that the Louvre commonly visited by the public is entirely above ground, so the underground structures remain largely unknown.
