Chapter 216: Chapter 127: News Conference
Once Yu Xiaozhou and Eagle had left, only Yan Fei and Lu Pingping remained in the office. Yan Fei finally had ti to question Lu Pingping about the events of that night.
That night, as Lu Pingping was driving ho on her regular route, her car was blocked by a truck that suddenly cut across the road near the forest park. Several masked n then rushed out of the truck, attempting to capture her. Lu Pingping’s bodyguard imdiately leaped into action, protecting her while trying to drive away. Unexpectedly, the masked n were too strong, and Liu Hong and Wang Li were no match for them; they were quickly incapacitated, one killed and the other seriously injured. Had it not been for their desire to send a ssage to Yan Fei through Liu Hong, she would have t the sa fate as Wang Li.
After one bodyguard was killed and the other seriously injured, Lu Pingping, who was just an ordinary person, was knocked out by the assailants, injected with an anesthetic, and remained unconscious. It wasn’t until she saw Yan Fei, who had co to rescue her on a seaplane and under extre circumstances, that Lu Pingping briefly regained consciousness. Because of this, she did not know what had happened after she lost consciousness and could not provide Yan Fei with more information.
However, sothing had struck Lu Pingping as odd just before she was knocked out: all of her abductors were masked except for one. This unmasked man was tall and burly with a big beard and, judging by his attire, seed to be from the Middle East. It was this man who had instantly killed her two bodyguards. Although Lu Pingping was not trained in martial arts and had no understanding of the various levels of individual strength, she distinctly rembered the terrifying aura emitted by the bearded man during the instant kill of her bodyguards, which made her subconsciously perceive him as extrely formidable.
A thought struck Yan Fei, and he hastily inquired for more details about the bearded man from Lu Pingping. From her description, Yan Fei realized that this bearded man was not among the Black Robe individuals he had killed on the cargo ship. He wondered whether the bearded man had been absent from the territorial waters that night or had been hiding in a submarine and then sunk by the Drone. Yet even if the bearded man had survived, he wouldn’t escape from Yan Fei. After the battle from the previous night, Yan Fei had gained a profound understanding of the assassination techniques used by the Al-Assassin Sect and was confident that he could kill the bearded man.
Listening to Lu Pingping recount her harrowing experience made Yan Fei’s heart flutter with fear. He was thankful that Old Man Gu, who could foresee the future, had suddenly appeared and inford him of Lu Pingping’s location. Otherwise, given the Al-Assassin Sect’s cunning arrangents, he would not have been able to find Lu Pingping in the sea 1500 kiloters away and consequently could not have rescued her. If anything had happened to Lu Pingping because of this, he would never be able to forgive himself.
...
After Lu Pingping finished recounting her ordeal, she began to ask about what had happened during the ti she was kidnapped. Yan Fei honestly told her about the troubles he had encountered during that ti. Upon hearing Yan Fei’s story, Lu Pingping was first moved, knowing Yan Fei was willing to give up everything, to sell the Company, to rescue her. But then, she noticed so inconsistent points in the story.
Lu Pingping started to analyze these inconsistencies, thinking that the small group that had orchestrated everything in advance might have been secretly supported and established by Yang Liu. Their aim was to shut down Dream Technology’s Food Processing Factory and drive Dream Technology headquarters out of its current Office Building. Although this sche would cause discomfort to Dream Technology, it would not seriously harm the Company or even slow down its progress, as these issues were not significant; at most, it would take a month for Dream Technology to recover, and then the sa thod would no longer be effective.
However, the situation did not unfold as simply as predicted but beca very peculiar. In Lu Pingping’s impression, Yang Liu was not as upright as he appeared, and he certainly did not tell Yan Fei the whole truth when they t. The appearance of the Al-Assassin Sect at this juncture was unlikely to be rely a ploy to kidnap and demand a ransom. Together with the odd opposition from Shanghai’s Municipal Governnt, the evasiveness of Shanghai’s major banks, and the abnormal concessions from the International Venture Capital Institutions, nothing seed normal. Any one of these unusual events occurring would be rare, let alone all at once. Thus, if these abnormalities appeared together, there must be a major conspiracy behind them.
Hearing Lu Pingping’s analysis, Yan Fei reevaluated his suspicions and felt that too many aspects were indeed suspicious. Although he had rescued Lu Pingping, he had only managed to avert the imdiate danger of his financial chain breaking. However, the real mastermind behind the scenes had yet to reveal themselves. This person was still lurking in the darkness, watching Yan Fei, and might expose their fangs and pounce on Yan Fei and Lu Pingping again. Unless this person was dealt with, both Yan Fei and Lu Pingping would live in ceaseless anxiety.
However, with limited information, Yan Fei and Lu Pingping could not determine the identity of the hidden mastermind despite their analysis.
At that mont, Yan Fei’s mobile phone suddenly rang, displaying an unfamiliar number. His heart stirred, he answered the call, and heard Yang Liu’s voice coming through the speaker, “Yan Fei, I really underestimated you. I didn’t expect you to pull off such a move and make lose face in front of so many people.”
