George Garcia could tell that whoever wrote this report was intimately familiar with their daily operations—an insider among insiders. Just from the system log reports, they had deduced that eighty percent of their filed reports were resolved without any real follow-up.

Well, that was exactly what they did.

These people were clearly serious this ti. They even managed to obtain a variety of surveillance footage. Many violations had been directly exposed.

The good news was, he wasn't the worst offender.

His colleague, who often abandoned his post without authorization, had been captured on cara the entire ti.

When George Garcia noticed a familiar na among the signatories on the last page of the report, he imdiately understood.

No wonder they were so clear about their workflow...

It turned out that his old ntor, who had supposedly retired, had been dragged into this ss again. Was it really worth it to earn a bit of extra money on top of the pension?

"So, what are you thinking?"

John Belush, who was in charge of the review, noticed that George Garcia had flipped to the last page and promptly asked.

In a formal inquiry, he should have asked whether the respondent acknowledged this report. But John Belush didn't like the standard playbook.

He preferred to create a mont where the negligent party would attempt to argue their case—his personal favorite part of the process.

During monts like this, he could always see either the best or the worst of human nature, without exception.

What surprised John Belush was how calm George Garcia appeared, as if none of this mattered to him.

"I have no opinion. But if you insist on saying sothing, I think you should expand the scope of your investigation. Don't just look at the most recent cases. I suggest you go back three years. That way you can see what happens when procedures are followed properly.

I'm not trying to defend myself. Even if I followed the procedures to the letter, so what? After reporting it, no one cares. If we isolated the system and restricted access every single ti the firewall triggered an alert, there would be a flood of complaints.

Do you think the technicians from the next departnt over would appreciate us handling everything strictly by the book? Ha... They'd just think we were being difficult. Taking minor issues and blowing them out of proportion. And if it turned out to be a false alarm, we'd get yelled at for that as well.

By the way, I noticed Carter Smith's signature on this report. Why don't you ask him who taught all this? Oh, and while you're at it, I strongly suggest you look into how many vulnerability reports have been submitted about the firewall response delays and how quickly they were addressed on the other side.

Oh, one more thing—the technicians responsible for maintaining this security alert system earn three tis our salary. Why don't you look into their efficiency as well? If you really have the guts, you'd dig into where the tens of millions of US Dollars allocated for maintenance and repairs every year are disappearing to."

"Ha..." John Belush chuckled and said, "That's not really sothing you need to worry about. If there's anything that needs investigating, we'll definitely investigate it."

"I'm sorry, it's not that I'm looking down on you. Although I'm not sure if this investigation was triggered by so incident or not..."

Here, George Garcia paused, then continued speaking: "How about we make a bet? I don't know if there was so major event that prompted this investigation, but judging by the current situation, if there really were data leaks, your investigation would likely stop at our level. It wouldn't be expanded further because if it reached higher levels, it couldn't be covered up anymore.

If, on the other hand, there wasn't any issue, and this was just a routine check for negligence, and you happen to be the kind of guy who enjoys digging deep, you still wouldn't expand the scope. Because even if you wanted to, no one would let you. And if you forced the issue, trust , you wouldn't last long at Langley."

"Ha... Sorry, I don't like betting with others. But until this matter has been fully investigated, I'm afraid I'll have to trouble you to stay here for a while, Mr. Garcia. I hope you understand."
