Germany, University of Bonn.

As Ackerman Konietz was reading a piece of literature, his phone suddenly rang.

Glancing at the caller ID, Ackerman Konietz then picked up and answered the call.

"Professor Stein, what's the matter?"

"Ackerman, I think you should open your email now."

"Oh? Let guess..."

"Don't guess, that author seems to have quite the temper."

"Haha... There are plenty with a temper. They're just too young."

"Maybe, but I just took a quick look, and the paper actually has so insight. So, Ackerman, do you still stand by your previous opinion?"

"Of course. Why, you're not getting cold feet, are you?"

"No, I just really want to et this little guy who dares to speak his mind. Of course, I'll still support you!"

"Well, thank you."

...

New York University, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the editorial office of "Pure and Applied Mathematics Communications" is inside the Courant building.

If Spider-Man were working on the outside wall at that mont, he could see through the glass curtain wall, the leisurely scene in the editorial office.

Five editors were either holding coffee or desserts, enjoying afternoon tea in the cafeteria while chatting about the interesting things that happened that day.

"Jack, has Professor Konietz from the University of Cologne and Professor Snet Roman from Sorbonne University replied to the ssage?"

"Um-hmm."

"Oh? How did they react after reading the reply from that Huaxia man?"

"Ackerman remains steadfast in his opinion. But Snet's reply is quite interesting." Jack's statent piqued the interest of all the other editors.

Soone urged, "Don't hold back, Jack. What did that French professor say?"

"He asked if Ackerman Konietz was also a peer reviewer. Of course, he knew the answer. After getting confirmation, he said Ackerman Konietz is more thorough in this area of research, and he tends to support the German's viewpoint!"

"Pfft... Hahaha..."

Laughter instantly filled the coffee room upon hearing that.

Soone added between laughs, "You know what? We could conquer the whole world, but we could never conquer France because the French could very gladly surrender with their hands up before being conquered!"

The laughter grew even louder at this comnt.

After everyone had their share of laughter, soone asked, "Alright then, so the reviewers' stance is still 2:3, what's Carl's take as the chief editor? Are we going to use this paper or not?"

Jack shrugged his shoulders and then deliberately lowered his voice, obviously mimicking soone else's manner of talking, "Alright, Jack, set that paper aside for now. Damn, this is a tough one, you know? I have to carefully consider whether we need to uphold the pitiful and laughable self-esteem of our European colleagues.

My God, has Huaxia's new generation already learned to teach their ntors a lesson?!"

"Hahaha..."

The rry laughter sounded again.

"How are things on your side with the Huaxia people? They seem to be asking for a quick retraction."

"Well, as you said, it's just their request. We'll just wait... Maybe the next issue will indeed lack a paper, and our dear chief editor might feel no need to be polite to our European peers, and who knows, it might get published. Despite that student's strong reply, he will still send a grateful email thanking us when he receives the news the manuscript will be published.

I'm willing to bet ten bucks, anyone willing to take it?"

Jack spoke nonchalantly.

"Haha... Jack, don't try to swindle our money! But won't that completely fall out with the University of Cologne? We have to admit the mathematics level at Cologne is pretty strong. Perhaps it's only slightly behind institutions like Princeton, Berkeley, Harvard. Of course, Germans' level in mathematics has been strong the entire century."

"No, no, no, Ackerman Konietz doesn't represent the University of Cologne, just as we can't represent the attitude of New York University. And just looking at their suggestions, you'd know what they an. Maybe their research happened to clash, right?"

"Alright, folks, enough of that. We might need to change the topic. You know what? I don't like the Huaxia people, especially not the pushy ones. So let's talk about sothing else, shall we? No more discussing these mood-dampening topics."

"Hmm, okay, John, let's talk about sothing you're interested in. Did your wife say to you when you got ho, 'Ah, John, not having you by my side is as painful as when you are here.'"

"Hahaha..."

This ti, the laughter was even more joyful.

This damn Arican sense of humor!

Undoubtedly, it was a very amusing afternoon in the editing room. Perhaps years later when everyone reminisced, the mory would still be filled with the sll of aromatic coffee and the warmth of the afternoon sun.

And the paper?

It was just a piece from a mathematical desert, who would really care?!

But truthfully, the stances on both sides were quite amusing.

Really, it was hard to say what mood these editors would be in a month later when recalling this beautiful afternoon.
