Mainly because Qiao Ze is more interested in natural philosophy, not debates like whether human nature is inherently good or evil, or things like free will versus determinism.
Well, to be honest, Qiao Ze has so interest in the latter too. But discussions about free will actually still need to be based on humans figuring out the real state of the universe. This in itself is an ancillary proposition. If humans completely conquer the universe, these currently esoteric propositions will naturally have answers.
For instance, if the so-called multiverse truly exists and is proven, it likely ans that all choices are, in fact, inevitable. Human consciousness is like particles in the quantum world; all choices are determined by probability, and as long as a choice is possible, it could happen.
Conversely, if the universe is unique and there is no so-called advanced civilization within it, it likely indicates that humans are indeed among the few highly intelligent beings with true free will. The choices humans make concerning civilization and technology are autonomous and not influenced by any so-called super civilization.
Moreover, the ergence of such life forms with advanced wisdom as humans is not inevitable but rather coincidental.
In truth, genuine philosophy is not about engaging in verbal sparring or studying things that sound very lofty. It’s a prediction made when natural sciences have developed to the extre. That’s why philosophy appears too profound—because determining right and wrong similarly requires the natural sciences to reach that level.
Similarly, when natural science reaches that level, those philosophical questions that once seed extrely mysterious will beco trivial.
For example, the once mind-boggling Ship of Theseus—when a ship continuously replaces its parts and has all parts replaced over ti, is it still the sa ship? Without advanced biology, there was no conclusion, but now middle school students know that human cells constantly undergo tabolism, and almost all cells in the body get replaced over ti.
So, from the perspective of saness, we can’t say that a person as a child and a person as an adult are not the sa because their cells have changed entirely. At least in Qiao Ze’s view, debating such philosophical questions without the definite answers provided by natural science is sophistry.
Similarly, Qiao Ze is very eager to understand why the speed of light is constantly slowing down, so he presets many possibilities in his mind, then finds flaws in these hypotheses and disproves them himself until he finds so that are hard to refute and can stand as self-consistent theories, and proposes corresponding thought experints.
The significance lies in providing a direction.
Unlike other philosophers who propose various ideas to debate with others or guide future generations, Qiao Ze has no intention of debating with anyone or contemplating so far ahead. He purely does it to guide himself.
How to find a plausible explanation through pure theory in a situation where industrial technology has not reached a certain level and make it as consistent as possible with the current human observations of the universe...
Clearly, this is not a simple task. Otherwise, Qiao Ze wouldn’t have thought about it for so long without any clues.
What is worth celebrating is that on February 26th, the tenth day of the lunar calendar, the unveiling ceremony of the High-Energy Physics Laboratory, affiliated with the Physics College of the university, was successfully held. It was lively, and most of the invited scientists attended.
In addition, many top executives, including the Director-General of CERN and the Science Policy Committee, also gladly accepted the invitation to attend today’s unveiling ceremony.
