Chapter 843: Chapter 829: Troops Descend on the City Chapter 843: Chapter 829: Troops Descend on the City Guo Mingyu handed a slip of paper to Ye Chen and said, “This is the address of Doctor Zhu Gao, who lives on Dragonfly Mountain. Go find him and tell him that you are there on my recomndation.”
Ye Chen nodded.
“This healer is a bit odd, but I believe he will help you,” Guo Mingyu added. “It has only been a few days since the Resentful Spirits possessed the girl, but the sooner they are removed, the better. The longer they linger, the harder they will be to get rid of, and the more suffering she will endure.”
Ye Chen was unable to express his gratitude.
But since it was already midnight, he said, “If there’s anything else, we can talk about it tomorrow.”
“Yes, indeed,” she agreed. “There really is more to discuss, especially about how we’re going to deal with the Dragon Slaying Clan. Of course, we need to strategize properly for that.”
“As long as there are no more issues, I’ll have soone guard the surroundings,” Guo Mingyu continued as he looked toward Guo Yuyun. “Yu Yun, you should also get so rest early.”
“Got it, father,” Guo Yuyun replied and vanished.
The Inn quieted down a notch.
“Don’t drink anymore, understand?” Guo Mingyu shouted from the doorway.
After Guo Mingyu left, Ye Chen remarked, “Is your father afraid I’m going to eat you up? That must be it; otherwise, he wouldn’t have tossed out that comnt.”
“Of course, he’s afraid,” Guo Yuyun said.
“There’s no need to wait until today if I wanted to eat you up. Instead, I’m sowhat afraid that you’ll be the one to eat up.”
Xuan Si also started feeling sleepy, having eaten his fill, and said, “I’m not going to keep up with your pointless chatter anymore. It’s been a long night, and I need a good sleep.”
“Have you seen my room? Don’t go to the wrong one,” Ye Chen said.
With a cold laugh, Xuan Si glanced at Guo Yuyun and remarked, “That monkey of yours needs a good sorting out. Make sure he doesn’t have it easy.” With that, he and Xuan Hong left.
“Hey, after all that’s been said, my mouth is dry. There really is nothing going on between Rong’er and ,” Ye Chen said.
Guo Yuyun stood up and headed towards her own room.
“Hey, you’re just leaving like that?” Ye Chen asked, suddenly left alone.
…
Bang, bang, bang.
The sound exploded like thunder as Ren Xiongbei’s door was violently knocked on. Startled, Ren Xiongbei feared it was the detestable Su Zhanze again, but upon opening the door, he found his son Ren Haotian, accompanied by a throng of people, including the chubby Qiao Haoyu. He inquired, “What’s going on?”
Breathless, Ren Haotian managed to say, “People from the Dragon Slaying Clan have arrived; they’re just outside the city gates.”
“How many of them are there?” Ren Xiongbei couldn’t imagine there would be many. The Dragon Slaying Clan was still under Fang Ziren’s watch, and it was unlikely that Longhun would have arrived so quickly.
“Over two thousand n, and there are also more than two thousand monsters,” Ren Haotian reported.
“What, that many?” Ren Xiongbei was so startled his jaw nearly dropped, mumbling, “Wasn’t there supposed to be only about two hundred?”
“What, father, you knew the Dragon Slaying Clan was coming?” Ren Haotian was puzzled.
Ren Xiongbei then explained, “Last night, Su Zhanze ca to see , ntioning that he had found a couple hundred of the Dragon Slaying Clan’s n in the woods.” He hadn’t expected there to be so many and began to curse, “Damn Fang Ziren, he’s as useful as a sweet potato. With so many of the Dragon Slaying Clan coming, he didn’t send a single ssage.”
“That guy is a complete bungler. I told you it was a mistake to entrust him with this matter. Look, it was bound to cause trouble eventually.” Even with the recent incident involving the Raging Wolf Clan, it had only been a few days since Immortal City Sect disciples had had a bit of peace. Much of the city’s infrastructure, including so Defense Towers and whatnot, had been destroyed, and it was taking months to rebuild.
“Father, it looks like they really intend to attack Immortal City,” Ren Haotian urged with so anxiety.
Ren Xiongbei was still dressing inside as he asked, “Is Longhun leading them?”
“No, they’re led by Mitra Monk; it seems they’ve already entered the Central Plains.” The more he thought about it, the more bizarre the situation seed.
Ren Xiongbei didn’t share the sa level of urgency.
“Father, our Immortal City might not be able to hold them off.”
“Don’t worry. It’s just a Mitra Monk, not Longhun.”
“But it looks like they ca prepared. We should ask for help quickly.”
Qiao Haoyu spoke from outside, “It seems they knew that Hu Nanyue had left and that’s why they’re making their move. They seized on that opportunity.”
Ren Xiongbei ca out, considering Qiao Haoyu’s words. He couldn’t believe a Mitra Monk could conquer Immortal City in just two days and said, “Don’t scare yourself. It’s not that easy to take the Immortal City Sect from my hands.” He then left in a hurry with Ren Haotian and Qiao Haoyu.
Su Zhanze, Jiang Ouyang, and Yuan Jingxing had already been on the city walls.
What they wondered was whether Immortal City could withstand the assault from the Dragon Slaying Clan. Now, they didn’t know what the people of the Dragon Slaying Clan had brought with them, but it was certain that they weren’t just here for a visit.
“It seems the Longhun isn’t present,” Yuan Jingxing stated.
Su Zhanze glanced at Jiang Ouyang and inquired, “Can we hold our ground?”
“I don’t know,” Jiang Ouyang was unable to guarantee it, as it was obvious that they ca prepared.
“They seem to have planned this, quite possibly a sche prepared by the Longhun,” Su Zhanze murmured.
Yuan Jingxing remarked, “This Hu Nanyue, he just left with the people of the Dragon Slaying Clan, and then they arrived—not coincidentally, but clearly prepared.”
Su Zhanze nodded.
Jiang Ouyang said, “I heard you discovered this last night.”
“That’s right, last night. We discovered over two hundred people, and even went to find Ren Xiongbei. At that ti, the guy scolded us and sent us back, saying we hadn’t figured things out clearly and told to co back after sorting things out.”
Jiang Ouyang shook his head, clearly very worried; he knew the battle between the Immortal and Demon domains and the Dragon Slaying Clan had just been triggered. Clearly, it was a contingency plan: Longhun didn’t know if the Raging Wolf Clan could annihilate Immortal City, so he made this backup plan with the clear aim to seize the Immortal City Sect. If they could capture the Immortal City Sect, many things would beco much easier.
They intentionally waited for Hu Nanyue to leave before approaching Immortal City—their intention was clear.
“Could they just be trying to intimidate us, waiting for Longhun’s people to arrive before they attack Immortal City?” Yuan Jingxing asked.
“Impossible. The confrontation between the Immortal and Demon realms and the Dragon Slaying Clan has already begun; this must be part of their plan.”
Su Zhanze looked over and said, “Uncle Master ans that they intend to take down the Immortal City Sect before anyone else arrives.”
“Definitely. Now, there’s nothing left to discuss between the Dragon Slaying Clan and the Immortal and Demon realms. Either we deal with them, or they deal with us. That’s how it is. And for them, dealing with us ans attacking Demon Palace City next. They want to seize Immortal City as quickly as possible.”
“Can they take us down within two days?” Su Zhanze estimated. Truly, if they couldn’t do it in two days, reinforcents should arrive, and then they would certainly be able to repel them.
“It’s hard to say. They know we’ve just co out of the Raging Wolf territory and have been trapped for over two months. Because they’ve seen this, many of our defensive devices have been destroyed and haven’t been repaired yet. So of our siege weapons have also suffered significant losses. They must have made preparations in advance,” Jiang Ouyang replied.
Upon hearing this, Yuan Jingxing shuddered and asked, “What do we do then? Are we going to abandon Immortal City?”
Jiang Ouyang took a deep breath and, knowing nothing he said would be useful now, declared, “Abandoning Immortal City is out of the question. We must quickly send ssages by carrier pigeon, informing the people of the Immortal and Demon realms of the situation here, and hope they can co help in ti.”
“I will send a ssage by carrier pigeon right now, informing them of our current state,” Su Zhanze stated.
“And pass the word to Guo Mingyu and the others.”
Su Zhanze nodded faintly, hurrying down with a few others. Clearly, Immortal City had reached its most perilous mont.
Ren Xiongbei ambled in belatedly behind them. Su Zhanze was disdainful of speaking with him, thinking that if only Ren had listened to him last night, the situation wouldn’t be so dire today. At the very least, there would have been the night to gather support from the Immortal and Demon realms. But now, what use was there in bringing it up?
Ren Xiongbei himself was taken aback upon seeing so many monsters outside the city gates, breaking into a cold sweat. Approaching Jiang Ouyang, he said, “We should send word to the other Sects, urging them to co quickly.”
“I’ve already sent Su Zhanze to do that,” Jiang Ouyang said.
“The Dragon Slaying Clan has co well-prepared,” Ren Xiongbei beca anxious.
“Yes, they have co prepared, and everything is part of Longhun’s plan.”
Ren Xiongbei, sowhat puzzled, asked, “What do you an everything is within Longhun’s plan?” He found it hard to believe.
“Yes, it’s all part of his plan. Longhun had a contingency in place: they hoped to get the ring by having the Raging Wolf Clan breach our Immortal City Sect, but since that plan failed, they had to go with their second strategy. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be so tily.”
“They want a grand battle with our Immortal and Demon realm?”
Jiang Ouyang looked surprised and spoke up, “Do we even have to think about it now? The grand battle has already been triggered, releasing the Raging Wolves marked the start of the fight. There’s no turning back now. If we don’t take them out, they will certainly take us out. It’s a definite conclusion.”
Ren Xiongbei, wiping the beads of sweat from his forehead, shouted, “Guo Mingyu and the others have co out; we must have them hurry over.”
“They’ll co if they can make it in ti,” Jiang Ouyang said as he turned away to attend to many tasks that required his attention.
Ren Xiongbei, at a loss for words, shouted, “Don’t stand there gaping; prepare for battle. I don’t want anyone slacking off.”
Ren Haotian murmured, “Father, can we really hold them back?”
“Even if we can’t hold back, we must. We absolutely must,” said Ren Xiongbei, unable to offer anything else.
Clearly, the situation had beco critical; there was no path of retreat left.
Ren Xiongbei looked out over the city walls, where the enemy was evidently ready to launch their attack.
