Chapter 1010: Chapter 996: Ambushed Chapter 1010: Chapter 996: Ambushed He did rember the two girls from that night, and Guo Yuyun. He had left the Central Plains with a heavy heart, compelled by circumstances beyond his control. Now, on the vast sea with no knowledge of what tomorrow might bring, how could he not worry about Guo Yuyun?
He thought that Guo Yuyun must be feeling quite miserable. But then again, with Guo Yuqing and the others by her side, there was no need for him to worry about her.
Their happy tis together had beco mories. It’s true, the days they spent together were indeed fun. Now that he was alone, he realized the true aning of loneliness and solitude.
He flipped through the “Acupuncture Essence” given to him by Yang Tao’er for the umpteenth ti, having read it three tis over the past several days.
Suddenly, soone knocked on the outside door. He heard a voice asking, “Is anyone there?”
The voice was so familiar that Ye Chen responded, “Yes, I’m here.” Ye Chen tucked the “Acupuncture Essence” back into his bosom.
With a creak, the door opened. Nangong Yan, however, was wearing her own clothes today, and the pink outfit she had carefully chosen for her departure looked naturally different.
“What, you’re just sitting here by yourself, waiting to mold?” Nangong Yan was not polite, as it wasn’t her first ti here.
“Hey, I’ve been waiting for you for so many days, hoping you’d co to see . I was afraid that if you did co, I wouldn’t be here, and I’d miss the chance.” Ye Chen sized her up from head to toe and then toe to head, genuinely surprised. She indeed stood out from the crowd, seemingly unaffected by the wind and rain, which was quite rare.
“And to think I never knew your mouth could be so sweet.”
“I’m only speaking from the heart.”
“Haven’t you ever seen such a beautiful woman before?” She noticed that he was almost drooling.
“Not bad, compared to those fierce girls, you do have so appeal.” Ye Chen sat up and asked, “You didn’t bring your maid with you. Are you looking for a date with ?”
“You’re really overthinking it. I’m bored on this ship. Those senior brothers don’t really talk much, and I don’t know anyone else on this ship. You’re the only one I know. Qi Xue is seasick, so she stayed in the room and didn’t co out.” Nangong Yan started cracking sunflower seeds that she grabbed from the table.
“Have you taken a fancy to ?”
“Oh, you’re so vain.”
“Then why co to ?”
“Is it wrong to be bored?”
“Of course not, I actually wanted to visit you too, but I was afraid you’d pretend not to know .” Ye Chen poured her a cup of tea.
“Are you from Immortal dicine Island?”
“No.”
“I can tell you’re not a simple person; you must be from so other sect.” Nangong Yan rembered how he had effortlessly switched the wine cups that night, which couldn’t be possible without so skill.
“I guess so, so say I have a few tricks up my sleeve.”
“Where’s your attendant?”
“He can’t stand the loneliness, went out to seek pleasure.”
“There’s pleasure to be sought on this ship?”
Ye Chen said quietly, “Indeed there is. I heard it from the sailors. They brought a few along to make silver, as so people can’t resist, so it turns out quite profitable.”
Nangong Yan blushed slightly and pouted her lips upon hearing this.
“But don’t worry, I’m quite reserved. I wouldn’t just go for anyone. Besides, I’ve already taken a liking to you.”
“Taken a liking to ?”
“Yes, you’re so beautiful, and the daughter of Immortal dicine Island’s Island Master. You’re his only daughter, so if I were to marry you, there’s a good chance I’d beco the heir to Immortal dicine Island.”
He wasn’t trying to hide it.
Suddenly, an explosion sounded, the cabin shook, and they heard the roar of the Winged Dragons.
Ye Chen was jolted and looked out the window just in ti to see several Winged Dragons approaching, accompanied by shouts that pirates were coming.
“Could it really happen just as you predicted?” Ye Chen rembered what the girl had said a couple of days ago, that soone wouldn’t let them reach Sacred Spirit Island.
Nangong Yan was the first to rush out. She saw swarms of Winged Dragons drawing near, and sothing resembling leopard-headed creatures surfacing from the water, trying to board the ship and capture people.
“Damn it,” Nangong Yan shouted as she launched several palms, slicing two creatures attempting to climb aboard back down into the sea, and yelled, “I’m not done with Smiling Tiger.”
Several Fireballs flew in, looking as if they would land inside the cabin. If they hit, the cabin would be torn apart by a huge hole. Ye Chen didn’t want to drown, so he leaped up and with a flicker of light, intercepted the Fireballs in midair. Then, with a crack of thunder, two bolts of lightning shot out, striking two Winged Dragons that were rushing toward them. The creatures fell into the sea.
Seeing this, Nangong Yan was astounded and completely frozen in shock; this man’s martial arts were far from ordinary—certainly not the skill of a re amateur.
Ye Chen rushed to the top of the ship and looked around. Through the hazy sea, he spotted three pitch-black ships erging like phantoms, with hulls as drab and wrinkled as old skin—they had surrounded the ship, and the Winged Dragons were flying in from those very ships.
“We’re surrounded,” Ye Chen realized. On land, he had so experience in dealing with enemies, but on the sea, he was completely lost. So folks had already been dragged into the water, and chaos reigned on deck as everyone was looking out for themselves, many trying to flee for their lives.
The man with the horse-like face and a bushy beard ran up, searching for Nangong Yan, worried she might be in danger.
“Yan’er, are you alright?”
Turning her head, Nangong Yan responded, “I’m fine, Eldest Senior Brother, you go and organize!”
Song Yi glanced around. People on the ship were on the verge of panic. Without soone to organize them, the situation would only get worse.
“Don’t look at ; I can take care of myself. Go quickly,” she urged.
Song Yi left Qi Xue behind and went down to organize everyone.
One by one, creatures with leopard faces, black skin, and green eyes leapt onto the ship.
“This is the end. If those three ships co at us, our ship is going to fall apart,” said soone despondently.
“Stop talking nonsense,” Nangong Yan shot back as she released her Crystal Beast to deal with the Winged Dragons in the air and the monsters leaping from the water.
Qi Xue shouted, “It must be Qiandu Xiang’s doing!”
“I advise you to stop shouting,” Ye Chen said angrily. “We’re all going to drown here. Don’t your pirates have anyone who takes charge?”
They had already sent out a distress signal.
There used to be people in charge. When Ke Yizhu was alive, the Sacred Spirit Sect usually led the way, with each Island Master responsible for dealing with pirates. But now Ke Yizhu was dead.
“There’s definitely soone who doesn’t want to take charge, which is why this is happening.”
Nangong Yan assessed the situation and then called out, “Hey, kid, don’t just stand there. Co over and help!”
“I think we should think about escaping,” Ye Chen said as he saw two ships drawing closer, launching Fireballs. “Where would you escape to? This is all sea. Only by protecting the ship can we save our lives.”
Ye Chen hesitated; she had a point. There was nowhere to flee—no islands nearby. It would be a miracle not to die here.
Nangong Yan knew this guy had good martial arts skills.
The number of Winged Dragons flying toward them was increasing.
After the horse-faced man went down, he seed to have persuaded so people, and they released their Winged Dragons and mutant beasts. They managed to fend off the attacks sowhat, but the attacking monsters were still nurous, chaotically flying all around, piercing through the ship’s top, causing the vessel to rock.
The ship looked like it would be torn apart at any mont.
“If you want to live, protect this ship,” Nangong Yan looked at Ye Chen.
“All I wanted was to catch a glimpse of unparalleled beauty; I wasn’t seeking any Sacred Spirit Stones. Had I known it would co to this, I wouldn’t have co,” Ye Chen said with regret.
“You can discuss that with Qiandu Xiang later,” Nangong Yan shouted as she ran to the other side. “What use is screaming like little girls, you lot? If you want to survive, help out. If this ship goes down, we’re all dead.”
The few panicked souls glanced at the petite girl above them as if being intimidated into silence.
“Why are you staring at ? If the ship gets blown into a hornet’s nest and sinks to the bottom, I’d like to see how you’ll scream then,” Nangong Yan yelled. “Co on, help out and release all your Winged Dragons.”
The people below, clearly flustered, stared blankly at the young girl commanding them.
Li Mo found Ye Chen, who was guarding the ship’s top.
“Ye Chen, are you alright?”
“For now, yes. But whether I’ll be okay later, I don’t know,” Ye Chen replied.
“Stop talking nonsense here,” Nangong Yan interjected. “We have another ship coming up behind us, trying to reach us, but we must hold out until they arrive.” She then charged ahead to confront the leaping leopard-headed monsters.
“Did you hear that? Protect yourselves!”
Winged Dragons attacked from three directions, and Ye Chen said, “I’ve heard that Iron Chains isn’t entirely bad. As long as you’re willing to surrender and have the skills, you could still live well with them.”
“What are you plotting now?” Nangong Yan demanded with fervor.
“Better than drowning here,” Ye Chen retorted.
“Can you guarantee those are Iron Chains’ people up ahead? They might capture you as a slave, condemning you to a lifeti of hard labor,” Nangong Yan was clear that the most important thing was to hold steady.
