Chapter 58: Chapter 54: Qing’er’s Heartache

The injuries on his face were much worse than those from the fight with Zhan Ze.

“Ah, don’t bother yourself. I didn’t want to bring trouble upon myself. I even said that night, not to complicate matters, but they insisted on making

speak up. I can’t bla them, the blow should’ve landed on . All I want is peace, and not to attract trouble. It’s over and done with. As long as I’ve vented my anger, they won’t bother

anymore. If you confront them, when will this end? They’re free from trouble, but I’m different; I don’t belong to anything here. I really don’t want any trouble, really!” Ye Chen said.

Yu Qing looked at his expression and felt an unspeakable heartache.

“Ah, if a beating cos, so be it. It’s a common occurrence in the countryside. Today there are fireworks, tomorrow an attack, the day after that, another beating. When will it end? I really don’t want to continue playing in such manner. I can’t afford it.”

“Does it hurt?” Qing’er asked worriedly.

“No, pain is nothing, it’s just a minor injury. You need not worry about , it’s a lesson learned.”

“If you didn’t want to speak, why did you? Did they force you to speak?”

“Not at all. What’s the point in questioning this now? It’s in the past. Let’s leave it there. I bla nobody for this. It’s what I deserve.” Ye Chen sat on the grass.

Yu Qing also sat down.

“Ah, let’s forget the past. I can’t bother myself anymore, so don’t tell Zhan Ze. I really do not want to play anymore. There is really no aning to this. We are all from Immortal City. But what’s the aning of ending up like this, can we still face each other in the future?”

“Does your mother know?”

“Mmm, she doesn’t know the reason.”

“Did she hit you?”

“My mother is not a brute who hits people casually.” Ye Chen said.

Yu Qing smiled faintly, but still felt very distressed.

“Don’t worry, it’s alright. It’ll only take a few days and I’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry about . My skin is tough, one in a million, robust by nature. Thus, you don’t have to worry about .”

“Who ever boasts about their skin being robust.”

“Really, one in a million, hardened by beatings. Just like a water buffalo, exceptionally thick.”

At this, Yu Qing gave a cold laugh.

“What about you? I haven’t seen you in a few days. How have you been?” Ye Chen leaned against a tree stump.

“I’m always doing well.”

“Of course, you’re always surrounded by a crowd of people, how can anything possibly go wrong,” Ye Chen said with a hint of envy.

Looking at his swollen cheeks, like egg-filled faces, she felt unspeakable heartache.

Ye Chen then asked, “The martial arts competition is coming up soon, do you plan to participate?”

“I have no interest in that.”

Ye Chen still felt so pains, particularly when he lay down. He might have forgotten about it while chatting, only to be reminded when he accidentally bumped into his wound.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, just bumped into the injury on my arm.”

“Looks like you got hit really hard.”

“It’s not lethal. I have a strong will to survive. Rest assured. Once this is over, I won’t care about anything else. I’ll focus solely on practicing martial arts.”

Upon hearing this, Yu Qing gave a cold laugh.

“Anyway, no one should talk about this anymore. I really don’t care. As long as they can vent their anger, everything will pass. If they can’t, they will keep on fighting. Soone has to end this eventually. Everyone has their own frustrations. If they vent them on , I guess that’s not so bad.”

“Only a fool would think like this.” Yu Qing said.

“Actually, it’s not foolish. What’s the point of carrying on like this?”

The sun was out now, its rays breaking through the layers of dense forest, shining in.

“How are things going between you and Zhan Ze?” Ye Chen asked curiously.

“Hehe, you still have the leisure to care about our affairs.”

“Ah, of course, I hope to see you two doing well.”

“I don’t know, anyway, I think he is very childish. The more I think about this, the more I believe it.”

“What do you an by childish?”

“Just like a child.” Yu Qing said.

“Are you talking about

or Zhan Ze?”

“Both of you.”

“How is it possible? I’ve always matured faster than others. I’m not a child.”

“In my opinion, you’re just a big kid. There’s nothing mature about you.”

“I’m mature when it cos to handling things.”

Yu Qing said, “Really! For , if you say we are no longer friends, then we are no longer friends. If we don’t see each other, then we really don’t see each other. Isn’t it sothing children do?”

“Who said we’re not friends anymore? I never said that!”

“What about not seeing each other?”

“It was because I feared misunderstandings that I did that!”

“Is that a mature approach?”

“How is that immature? I seriously pondered the future before deciding.”

“Well I think I better find a way to return to the Demon Palace soon, and not stay here any longer.” Qing’er angrily said.

“What, have we beco that obnoxious to you!”

“Extrely obnoxious; super obnoxious. You all behave like immature kids, none of you are mature.”

“We’re still kids after all.”

Ye Chen continued, “You don’t seem to be any more mature than us when I see it.”

“I may not be mature, but I don’t act like you all.” Qing’er said.

“What do you an, how have we behaved?”

“Avoiding each other when you say you will, setting off firecrackers when you feel like it, and fighting when it suits you.”

“Once you return to the Demon Palace, if I get a chance, can I co to see you there?” Ye Chen asked.

“We agreed to be on bad terms and avoid each other, so why would you co to the Demon Palace to see ?”

“Hey, over here it’s to avoid misunderstandings. It’s not that we truly plan on being enemies. The more friends the better, it would be a big loss to cut off our newfound friendship. And who knows, you could perhaps co in useful in saving my life one day.” Ye Chen teased.

Yu Qing tried to slap him: “This beating hasn’t hurt you enough.” She raised her hand but quickly withdrew it.

“Who says it hasn’t? Last night, I was writhing in pain all night, I didn’t sleep at all. I have bruises all over. The injuries on my face and body are not even comparable. Despite protecting my face with my hands, look what’s happened. Just imagine my body…”

Yu Qing was left speechless.

Ye Chen quickly said, “But don’t worry about it, I am fine, my skin is really thick, a few hits won’t cause any serious problems. Who knows, it may even open my ridians and make

invincible overnight.”

“They were trying to kill you, forget about your ridians. You’ve probably been hit into confusion, invincible hah!”

“Ah, it’s not what you think, children don’t harbor deep hatred or animosity. The pain was just out of anger, it’s understandable. Once the anger subsides, it’s all over.”

“Right, the next ti I’m angry, I should get it out on you too.”

“You’re so good to .” Ye Chen chuckled.

“When do you plan to return?”

“Probably after the martial arts competition.”

Ye Chen nodded and said, “That’s good, I’ll finally get so peace.”

Qing’er pouted: “You can’t wait for

to leave, so I won’t get in the way of your incestuous relationship, right?”

“What sort of incestuous relationship? Who would want to be with a country bumpkin like ?”

“You definitely think that, it’s because I’m bothering you.”

“I don’t think so.”

“It hasn’t even happened yet, and I can already hear it.”

“I really don’t an that.”

“No need to explain, the more you explain, the more suspicious you sound.”

Ye Chen lowered his head in silence, voices conversing started coming from beneath the mountain.

The voices turned out to be from Shi Zi who had noticed that Yu Qing hadn’t returned for a while, so she decided to see what was happening.

“What are you two doing here, committing so unspeakable act?” Shi Zi asked.

Yu Qing turned around, glared at Shi Zi, and said, “You are really a mischievous girl, always thinking about the worst.”

“Reliving the night spent under the cliff?”

“Even without your incessant chatter, misunderstandings have already arisen. Aren’t you tired of causing trouble?” Qing’er retorted, clearly annoyed.

Shi Zi noticed Ye Chen’s injured face and asked, “Did you get these injuries trying to sneak a peek at soone bathing at night?”

“If I were to sneak a peek, it would only be at you.” Ye Chen coughed as he spoke.

“Then why are you bruised all over?”

“It was too dark at night and I fell into the ditch.”

“How is it that I didn’t fall into the ditch?” Shi Zi countered.

Upon hearing this, Luo Rui and Bi Chun burst out laughing.

“Your face is ssed up, just like a grizzly bear.” Shi Zi remarked.

“Isn’t it cute though?” Ye Chen asked.

“If you want to look cute, get soone to punch your eyes too, panda looks even cuter.”

Ye Chen chuckled.

“Who caused these injuries, who’s been roughing you up?” Shi Zi pinched him to see if it was real.

“What are you doing, you crazy gal!” Ye Chen exclaid.

“Just to see if it’s real.”

Qing’er pushed her hand away forcefully and asked, “What brought you here?”

“I wanted to see if this guy lied to you and brought you here for so funny business.”

“Damn girl, always talking nonsense.”

Shi Zi giggled mischievously.

“Recently, we haven’t noticed you coming to our place, have you found soone special?” Shi Zi teased knowingly.

“I’m not as carefree as you to have ti for that, who would even want a country bumpkin like .” Ye Chen laughed it off.

“If you find soone, make sure to enlighten , I’ll gladly play matchmaker.”

“No need for a matchmaker, just be the bride.” He shot Qing’er a glance.

“Disgusting! You’ve really been injured badly!” Shi Zi poked him again.

“Hey, you crazy girl, don’t you realize it’s an injury, and it hurts really badly.”

“Of course, I know it’s an injury and that’s why I’m touching it!”

“Go to Yuan Jingxing to touch, you can touch whatever you want.”

Then a slap ca flying and it hit Ye Chen’s injured arm just right, causing him to wince in pain.
