Chapter 1060: Chapter 1060: We’ve Been Deceived

Liu Siming’s current mood is very depressed. The Azure Sky Realm has suffered severe damage, and the financial loss is incalculable.

And that’s not to ntion, while the loss of money can be recovered sooner or later, the key issue is those researchers who were slaughtered by the experintal subjects, as well as the experintal projects that were yet incomplete. These represent losses that cannot be tallied.

Restarting those experintal projects and finding so many star divine officials adept at research is not an easy task.

Without those researchers and successful new projects, the various products produced by the Azure Sky Realm would soon be left behind by rivals, and that is truly the most frightening aspect.

The critical thing is that this laboratory incident occurred, and he still can’t find the person responsible. When the ti cos, he may have to bear this black mark alone.

What pains Liu Siming even more is that the No. 9 Subject has escaped.

He was so anxious to rush there before to capture the No. 9 Subject, because it was one of the ultimate creatures, the most valuable entity in the institute.

Regrettably, despite his leading so many people to attack the No. 9 Subject, he still failed to retain it.

The No. 9 Subject’s body, having been tornted for so long, was already not as powerful as it once was, and quite weakened to an extre level. Not being able to detain it, finding and recapturing it now seems almost impossible.

Liu Siming was thinking about how to explain this to the other star divine officials – this, after all, wasn’t just his issue alone.

After the escape of the No. 9 Subject, seeing that the situation had mostly stabilized, Liu Siming then led his team towards the institute.

The situation at the institute was shocking. Not only had most of the experintal subjects escaped, but also various instrunts, which were either purchased at great cost or developed in-house, were almost completely destroyed.

Looking at those instrunts, which now resembled scrap tal, Liu Siming’s heart bled.

There was no hope for the laboratory, so Liu Siming led his team to the warehouse, hoping that the belongings stored there were still intact and undamaged.

From a distance, seeing the warehouse caused Liu Siming’s heart to wrench painfully.

The main door of the warehouse was open, and one could see that the walls of the warehouse were damaged in many places, with several large holes visible.

“It’s over!” Liu Siming wailed internally; if even these little belongings were destroyed, life would be even more difficult for him in the future.

He rushed into the warehouse in just a few steps, but the scene inside caught Liu Siming slightly off guard.

The goods inside the warehouse were indeed damaged, but unexpectedly, there were two people inside.

No, to be precise, one person and a corpse. Liu Siming of course recognized the person – it was Tian, whom Wu Qing had always asked him to keep a close watch on, and the corpse, too, he recognized as Shi Yuqing, whom he had assigned to monitor Tian.

Liu Siming had assud that Tian had been torn or eaten by the No. 9 Subject, especially since even Director Lin and Zhang Jiahao had died inside, their bodies bitten to pieces. How could Tian, an experintal subject from No. 9 Lab, possibly have escaped?

He had never expected to find Tian here, and certainly not to encounter Shi Yuqing’s body.

The star divine officials who had followed Liu Siming had already surrounded them.

“Tian, how co you are here?” Liu Siming didn’t imdiately order them to be apprehended, instead asking with a frown.

“Lord Liu, please look at this.” Lin Shen stretched out his hand and tossed Shi Yuqing’s diary towards Liu Siming.

Liu Siming caught the diary, his body radiating a strange brilliance.

He flipped through it with so confusion, and his face imdiately showed an expression of enraged shock.

The diary, though unnad, clearly belonged to a spy undercover in the Azure Sky Realm from its entries.

Most of the content mocked and ridiculed the Divine Beings, including many of his plans and reflections upon their successful execution.

Previously, Liu Siming thought the nurous issues in the factories and research labs of the Azure Sky Realm were accidents, but it turned out that they were the spy’s doing.

Reading the scornful remarks about him in the diary, Liu Siming’s face burned with humiliation, and his mood turned extrely indignant.

Liu Siming saw an entry describing an event, and further on, he discovered plans targeting the research labs, intending to use subjects to destroy the labs.

Looking at the date this plan was written, it was exactly when Shi Yuqing was monitoring Tian.

Liu Siming figured out who wrote the diary, and even thought that Shi Yuqing’s request for surveillance access to the research labs through Tian was preparation for this plan.

“This bastard!” Liu Siming concluded that the recent riot by the subjects was orchestrated by Shi Yuqing, the traitor.

Although he did not know exactly how Shi Yuqing did it, the actions matched his written plans perfectly—it couldn’t have been anyone else.

“Did you kill him?” Liu Siming asked Lin Shen with a complex expression.

“Being sent to No. 9 Lab, must have been his ddling, right?” Lin Shen angrily kicked Shi Yuqing’s corpse: “This damn man from the Ancient Realm, he almost got killed. Luckily, I escaped and learned the truth.”

“We were all deceived by him,” Liu Siming sighed. “Let’s go back and help with the investigation.”

Liu Siming still had suspicions about Lin Shen, naturally, he couldn’t just take him at his word.

After all, it was suspicious enough that Lin Shen survived, and it was doubtful that he could have killed Shi Yuqing.

Although Shi Yuqing was only a five-star Divine Official, his powers were very strong, ranking top among middle-tier Divine Beings. Even the strongest lower-tier Divine Being couldn’t beat him.

Moreover, given his deep concealnt as a person from the Ancient Realm, a man of such deeply calculated sches couldn’t possibly be killed by a lower-tier Divine Being.

Liu Siming had the Star Divine Official take Lin Shen back for custody, then interrogated him personally.

“Tian, how exactly did you survive the scheming of this spy?” Liu Siming feigned a cordial deanor, looking at Lin Shen.

“If I didn’t have a special ability, I might have already died because of his plotting,” Lin Shen sighed.

“A special ability? What special ability?” Liu Siming inquired.

“Playing dead,” Lin Shen earnestly replied.

“Playing dead!” Liu Siming paused montarily.

“Yes, if it weren’t for the subject glitch while I was playing dead, I might have been killed by that No. 9 Subject. Fortunately, I have this special ability, which allowed to overhear him discussing secrets with two other people from the Ancient Realm, giving a chance to ambush and kill him…” Lin Shen sighed again: “Unfortunately, when I ambushed and killed him, the other two people from the Ancient Realm ran away, and I was too injured to chase them down…”

“You did well enough,” Liu Siming said with a smile on his face: “Can you show that special ability to play dead?”

“This is my Unique Secret Technique, my life-saving trump card. Lord, you may see it, but please keep it a secret, absolutely confidential,” Lin Shen said as he began to demonstrate how to play dead.

Having The Greed for Life and Fear of Death Elixir, playing dead was extrely simple for him.
