549: Chapter 548: Banquet 549: Chapter 548: Banquet After the eting, everyone chattering and laughing in groups of threes and twos headed to the largest tavern in the township.
The tavern owner, a chubby middle-aged man who always had a smile on his face, had been expecting and greeted them at the entrance.
“We are so glad to have all of you fine leaders grace our tavern.
Mr.
Hill, having you around in the township is our good fortune.
Recently, all of us can’t stop praising your efforts in fixing the roads.
You’ve been running around tirelessly for the good of our township.
We are truly blessed to have you.”
Peter moved in with the others and began to observe the tavern owner.
He noticed a certain aura emanating from the tavern keeper, an aura that resonated with that of Alexander Lee.
During his conversation, Peter noticed so interaction between Lee’s and the tavern keeper’s vibes.
Interesting!
Peter quickly understood that every job required a certain connection, a vibe, and if that vibe was wrong, no matter how hard one tried, the task could never be accomplished properly.
After hearing the words of the Tavern Keeper, Peter began to admire him.
Just look at him, straight off the bat he’s buttering up the leaders by praising their work on the roads, sothing that is probably Alexander’s proudest accomplishnt.
Unsurprisingly, when Lee heard this lavish praise, he broke into laughter and comnted, “****, Brynn Wilson, right off the bat you’re kissing my ass, haha.”
This interaction was insightful!
Peter had learned a new trick.
Though Lee was laughing, his expression and the mock slap he gave Brynn Wilson indicated that Wilson was one of his trusted followers.
His coarse language only served to further close the distance between them.
What a good choice coming here was!
Peter learned quite a lot today.
With a stride, Lee stepped into the tavern, his voice loud and spirited as he called out to the people inside, “Today is our comrade Peter’s day.
Everyone, be sure to treat him well.”
This Alexander Lee!
Peter noticed Lee, keeping his status in check, always referring to him as “Peter,” never attempting to bolster his status.
Looking at Eleanor Smith, Peter noticed that her aura was not one of power and that she didn’t have any visible support.
Instead, she seed to be enjoying herself in the company of others.
It was clear that Alexander Lee ruled the township.
With Lee’s proclamation, the atmosphere in the tavern beca lively and all eyes were on Peter.
As he took a seat, Lee told Peter, “Peter, the officials from our township behave pretty weird to the outsiders.
Their favorite pasti is making them drink till they drop.
If you can’t hold your liquor, they’ll look down on you.
Today might be a little tough”.
The Deputy Secretary, Fabio Wright, laughed and said, “When I arrived, they made drink till I dropped, though I managed to get a few of them down too!”
He seed pretty smug when he said this.
Alexander Lee gently smiled and added, “Sailor Williams also faced the sa scenario when he arrived.
However, the rules are different for female comrades.
They didn’t push her to drink.”
Eleanor, smiling, looked at Peter and advised, “Are you good at drinking?
You should also try to outdrink a few.”
Mr.
Hill laughed and said, “Peter, working in rural areas isn’t an easy job.
The local officials appreciate straightforwardness.
You’ll win their favor if you’re frank while drinking with them.
But, I can’t help you today.”
At this point, everyone started to laugh.
As they were talking, plates of fish were served.
While placing the plates on the table, Brynn Wilson said, “This fish was freshly caught from the pond, prepared with pickled cabbage.
If you find any flavors lacking, let know.”
“Bring up the booze,” Lee said to Wilson.
The director of the birth control departnt, Fiona Miller, comnted, “Our Mr.
Hill is a renowned light drinker.
He is well-known as the heaviest drinker in the township.
On this table, there are many heavy drinkers, so the only one you could likely get to drop down due to booze would be Mayor_Wei, hehe.”
“What the hell are you saying, Fiona?
What do you an ‘get Mayor_Wei to drop down’?
Can’t you speak properly?
You deserve a penalty drink!” Matthew Carter, the deputy town chief who seed unhappy with Fiona’s words, jokingly yelled at her while the others laughed along.
When Peter heard Carter’s words and saw Eleanor’s displeased expression, he realized the ambiguity in Fiona’s words.
This implication was indeed sowhat inappropriate, especially towards a female colleague.
At this point, Alexander Lee joined in, laughing, “All of you, look at Sailor and Peter, they are blushing!
They are more cultured than us, and definitely not as crude.”
Hearing this, Peter couldn’t help but shake his head.
To maintain his authority, Alexander Lee did not hesitate to use any ans, even referring to Mayor Wei as “little Wei”.
This clearly indicated that he preferred Mayor Wei to not garner her own influence.
Seeing Eleanor’s flash of killing intent subside, Peter developed a newfound respect for her.
This woman was indeed no ordinary person.
No wonder people said it was hard to survive in the political arena.
Sches were always being unveiled!
“Bring in the drinks,” Brynn Wilson announced as he personally carried a large earthen jar filled with liquor and placed it in front of Mr.
Hill.
“This is a fine drink I specially prepared.
It’s the strongest liquor in the township.”
The extre potency of the liquor was apparent as it was served at every table in the tavern.
“Peter, our drinking customs are drastically different from city folks.
We use large bowls to drink liquor.
Before the feast begins, each guest must finish a full bowl of liquor.
If you can handle a full bowl, you may proceed to the main course.
Can you take it?”
Despite the question being seemingly infused with care, Peter understood that if he decided to decline, he would lose all of his credibility.
With a smile on his face, Peter said, “I am also a connoisseur of liquor.
Let’s give it a try.”
“Good, straightforward!
Pour the drinks!”
With a slap on the table, Mr.
Hill shouted for drinks.
At that mont, he seed to be more of a liquor lover than a leader.
Everyone was given a large bowl as Brynn Wilson, laughed and poured liquor into each of the bowls.
Eleanor Smith, however, was an exception.
She had a bottle of red wine in front of her and was sipping it from a glass goblet, setting her apart from the others.
“Little Wei can’t handle liquor, so we don’t force her.
She’ll stick to red wine while we enjoy our white liquor”).
Noticing Peter’s attention, Mr.
Hill made an explanatory comnt.”
Looking at Eleanor’s unusual situation, Peter sensed that although it appeared that Eleanor was being cared for with a special provision of red wine, there was also a sense of exclusion.
The small bottle of red wine seed to form a barrier between her and the rest of them.
Peter didn’t have ti to give this much thought right now.
The drinks were poured.
It was ti for him to drink with them.
