1660: Chapter 1658: Assigning Tasks 1660: Chapter 1658: Assigning Tasks Everyone sat down after shaking hands.
Henry Carter looked around at everyone seated, then said, “The main content of today’s eting is about competing for projects.
As we all know, although we are responsible for the current project, it is obviously nearing its end.
If we cannot secure new projects, we’ll have nothing to do.”
No one spoke.
The new team needed to sh, and without a clear understanding of the situation, everyone adopted the approach of listening more and speaking less.
Henry Carter looked at everyone again and continued, “Our project covers several surrounding counties, and we have been tracking several major projects, including two real estate projects, which is our forte.
There are also several road construction or dam projects, which we are also capable of doing but are not our strength.”
Matthew Clarkson spoke up, “Indeed, the current situation is serious for us.
A key aspect of the headquarters’ assessnt of us is the addition of new projects.
Previously, projects were continuously tracked, but now with personnel transferred or retired, almost all tracking has co to a standstill.
Several projects are coming up for tender soon.
We need to get moving.”
Henry Carter saw Matthew Clarkson interject, a hint of displeasure crossed his face, but he quickly concealed his dissatisfaction and said, “Two of the real estate projects are in two different counties.
I’ve discussed with Addison; we each will take responsibility for one of the projects, hoping to achieve so results.
Additionally, there is a project in our county, which Hadley used to track.
We can say we have completely lost contact with it now.
It’s a reservoir construction in the county, also involving tens of millions in investnt, which is equally important to us.
Our opinion is that Peter Brown should take over this project as well.”
With that, he turned to Peter Brown and said, “Peter, you have a good relationship with Hadley.
You might consult him to see if we can reconnect.
If this project is successful, we will also be able to expand our presence in the county.”
Peter Brown, who was not ignorant of the situation, and had so understanding of many matters as a forr deputy office director, knew that the reservoir project had very little hope; it was highly sought after, and assigning the project to him was Henry Carter and others wanting to see him squirm.
Yet, he could not refuse the assignnt, especially since the two of them had each actively taken on tracking a project.
“Alright,” Peter Brown didn’t say much and imdiately agreed.
Henry Carter gave a faint smile and said, “This county is also our base.
If we can’t secure this project, the superiors will still have their opinions on us.
Peter, for this project, feel free to make any requests.
Our company will provide full support.”
“I will.”
Peter Brown knew that from that mont on, he was entangled with the reservoir project.
Afterwards, the eting shifted to the assignnt of tasks; nearly each leading mber was responsible for tracking a project.
Apart from the two real estate projects, the rest didn’t offer much hope and were rely to be monitored.
However, it was implicitly clear that the superiors took a particular interest in the county’s reservoir project, as if not securing it would warrant reprimand.
When Peter Brown glanced at Henry Carter and Matthew Clarkson, a thought crossed his mind; they probably saw the benefits he stood to gain by being in the middle and were now sowhat united in putting pressure on him.
Indeed, there are no permanent enemies!
Although he realized this, Peter Brown didn’t show it on his face and sat there with an indifferent deanor.
The eting ended quickly, and Peter Brown then went to the operations departnt.
As soon as Salem Hill saw Peter Brown enter, he stood up and asked, “Manager Brown, what do you need?”
“Get all the materials on the Riverwater Valley Reservoir in the county.
I need to study them.”
Shortly, the materials were found.
Salem Hill said, “Boss, the county modified the blueprints yesterday and increased the budget.
They are planning to expand the capacity of the reservoir further, with the construction costs around fifty million now.
It has beco a key project in the county.”
Hearing this, Peter Brown’s gaze sharpened.
Henry Carter and the others had insistently placed this project on his shoulders today, without ntioning the expansion or the increased budget.
The project, already difficult, had beco even more competitive with higher costs.
As a newcor facing such competition, even if he could get so contact information from Henry Ford, there seed little hope.
It beca clear to him that this was indeed a ploy to demonstrate that he was not a competent manager, with the underlying intent of diminishing his reputation.
Should he fail to secure the project, others would perceive him as a paper tiger with no real ability, which would certainly impact his prestige.
He hadn’t expected them to be waiting for him here!
After reviewing the materials in his office and getting a basic understanding of the project, Peter Brown then called Reid Nelson.
As expected, being the forr office director, Reid Nelson was knowledgeable about the project.
Upon hearing Peter Brown’s inquiry about the project, Reid Nelson said, “Peter, the project used to be tracked by Henry Ford, but after the county’s leadership adjustnts, the project was taken over by a leader who didn’t get along with Henry Ford, and practically that’s when the contact broke off.
Everyone in the company knows this, and the project is basically hopeless for the branch office.
The major competitor wasn’t a governntal entity but a private company that used a bidding ring strategy with borrowed qualifications, and notably, they have established strong relations.
I suspect they have already made arrangents with the relevant personnel, and once the bidding starts, it’ll likely go to them.”
Only then did Peter Brown learn of these circumstances.
He asked, “What kind of person is this?”
“A boss in the city, nad Huxley Taylor, who has so connections.
If there’s expansion and increased budget, I suspect they might be manipulating it from behind.
Henry Carter should be well aware of this; the fact that he’s handed the task to you clearly ans to put you in a difficult spot.”
With a clearer picture, Peter Brown was actually less worried.
He inquired further about the mobile ga company, and Reid Nelson, full of confidence, reported many of her tasks.
After hanging up, Peter Brown sat there and began contemplating seriously.
He figured this was a hurdle he needed to overco.
If he could clear this challenge, there might be benefits for him as well.
