I honestly ant it as a joke, but the sorrowful look that entered the depth of his blue eyes and his face told that he didn’t find my joke at all entertaining. Suddenly, the atmosphere around us felt awkwardly tense. Just as I wondered what I could say to ease the tension between us that I had unintentionally caused, Bradon spoke up.

"I’m sorry, Dahlia," he said as he pressed my hand against his forehead. I could hear and feel his regret, and I truly believe that he genuinely regretted his actions and that affected my heart.

For a mont, I was stunned into silence as all I could do was stare at him as my body froze in place.

"No, I didn’t an for it to co out that way. I’m not really blaming you," I said before trailing off.

"It’s fine. It is my fault," he said. I wasn’t sure at that point if my words bothered him more or if his reaction bothered more.

"You should try your best to fall asleep," he advised after a mont of silence.

"I think after 3 days of doing nothing but sleeping, I’ve had enough sleep already," I replied before smiling a little at him.

Strangely enough, it felt very peaceful now that I was alone with Bradon in the hospital. It felt like all the crazy things happening in the outside world could wait while we enjoyed so downti and peace in the sanctuary of the hospital room.

"Never mind about . You should go back and get so proper sleep," I repeated my suggestion once again.

Bradon did not even hesitate to turn down my suggestion. "If you don’t want here, I’ll be waiting outside," he said.

"Do you need to guard by yourself? You can leave Zain here while you go back and rest," I quickly ca up with another alternative.

"Zain is here along with other guards, but I’ll stay here as well," Bradon replied emotionlessly.

It seed like all my efforts to chase him away proved to be futile. Surprisingly, I didn’t mind his presence, and perhaps it was because I didn’t feel sleepy. Bradon looked quite worried, and I wondered if he was overly worried about my safety.

"I don’t think you need to worry too much. I an, this is a hospital, what can possibly happen?" I asked with a very carefree attitude.

"You shouldn’t let your guard down just because the Old King is dead," he warned , and I could tell that he was serious.

"What do you an by that?" I asked as I narrowed my eyes slightly.

"He’s not the only one who wants you gone," Bradon replied quite simply.

I sucked in a deep breath before slowly letting it out in an attempt to calm my nerves. I had to admit that he was right about Desmond’s father not being the only one who wasn’t in support of my presence in the country and my relationship with Desmond. The nobles were clearly split on the opinion regarding my relationship with Desmond. My family already had many enemies because of our close ties to the Royal Family, which made many other noble families jealous of our social standing. Therefore, my rebellious nature and my scandalous relationship with the then Crown Prince only added to the rift between the noble families. Now that I am back in the country as myself and after appearing in public with Desmond like that, I shouldn’t be surprised if soone decided to make a surprising move.

"Are they going to kill ?" I asked before I could stop myself.

It sounded more like a teasing joke than anything else, and I couldn’t bring myself to wrap my mind around the possibility that soone or even a group of people may want dead and gone. The dark look that crossed Bradon’s face told that that was exactly what he was thinking about, and that probably explained why he seed so hell-bent on sticking to my side and heightening security.

"I don’t think you should worry about too much," I said, while deciding to lay my fears completely to rest.

"If I don’t worry about you, who will?" he said before he stood up to leave.

His words truly caught off guard, and I wondered if he was the only one that was really worried about now that my sister wasn’t here. Maybe that made feel slightly lonely, or maybe I felt scared after being told that there is a possibility that soone was targeting my life, but before I knew what I was doing, I had already called his na.

"Bradon," I called his na softly, but I knew that he could hear .

"...Do you want to sleep together?" I asked.

Bradon turned to face with a slightly stunned look on his face that I thought was quite amusing. I could tell from his reaction what he was thinking and that he was about to turn down my sincere little offer. I scooted my body to the side on the bed before patting the empty space next to .

"It’s fine if we just sleep, right?" I asked innocently.

Bradon stared at silently as if he was debating his choices and his next course of action. While I honestly didn’t know why he was hesitating to that degree because all I was doing was offering to share the limited space of my bed with him.

"Well, because soone might co and kill , I don’t really want to be alone, so why don’t you co and sleep here with ? I’m really not going to do anything..." I said to brush aside his worries.

Bradon slowly ca to stand right next to the bed before he stared down at with a slightly confused look on his face. It seed like it was my turn for my words to catch him off guard.

"But I might..." he said after a mont of silence.
