Despite how precarious my situation had gotten as each day passed, my parents had no problem abusing the fact that the prince favored . My connection with the prince was abused in every way possible by my parents whether it be simple boasting at parties and gatherings all the way to manipulating results of business deals. Everything escalated and combined together until my situation was beyond repair and decisive action had to be taken.

The day when everything ca crashing down, I was allowed to et the prince one last ti so that we could say our ‘goodbyes’. Apparently that was how the king was willing to show his rcy; however, I was certain that Desmond had to pay a heavy price just to see one last ti before I needed to leave the country for good. Despite the king’s promise to let us et, we weren’t even able to have any private ti together. Desmond evidently looked distressed and that made feel that he was taking our parting much harder than I was. With three royal butlers and one of the ministers present, Desmond and I got to share words of parting for what was supposed to be the last ti.

“I’m sorry, Dahlia,” Desmond apologized in a voice that shook with intense emotions.

Although I would love to think that it was all his fault, I also knew that he wasn’t responsible for everything. Despite how our relationship had started, I had grown quite attached to the prince and I was certain that his love for was genuine.

“There’s nothing for you to apologize for. I won’t be here anymore but you have to take care of yourself. Make sure you do your duties properly,” I said as I tried to stop myself from bursting into tears.

“I’m going to cry...” Desmond declared and I quickly averted my eyes.

The other people in the room quickly did the sa to help preserve so of the crown prince’s dignity. When my gaze returned to his face again, Desmond’s eyes were red from crying but he was no longer shedding visible tears.

“Please don’t cry for ,” I said as I reached up my hand to cup the side of his face.

I felt the warmth of his much larger hand as it covered mine and then he pressed his face into the palm of my hand. When our relationship started, I never thought that I would dread the day when we would no longer get to spend ti together. The prince taught many things and he also shielded and protected when I needed it most. Although our relationship started out as helping and using each other, I had to say that I had grown very fond of the prince. He was definitely one of the people that I would regret leaving behind and not seeing again.

“Take care of yourself, Your Highness. I am sure that you will be an amazing King,” I told him what I honestly thought.

“Call by my na,” he instructed imdiately while reminding just how much he hated it when I addressed him too politely.

“Take care, Desmond,” I said again before trying my best to show him a smile.

“This is all my fault,” he muttered, and to my surprise he sounded so regretful.

Desmond probably never thought that our relationship would co to an end in this way.

“It’s not your fault. Even without this, I am sure that I would end up being banished so way or another anyways. There’s also that other matter, you know...” I said before trailing off.

I didn’t want to think or even talk about it because at that ti I wasn’t even sure what was the deciding factor that led to the king’s decision to force to leave the country. Regardless, I probably had too many sins that they felt were unforgivable.

“But you didn’t do that, did you? No, I know that you didn’t do it. You couldn’t have done it...” Desmond said in a hushed whisper as if he wanted his words to be for my ears only.

I could feel everyone’s eyes on , and I knew that I could never tell him the truth.

“What are you talking about? Of course, I was the one who did it. Who else could it possibly be?” I asked before I let out a soft scoff to dismiss his idea.

My decision was made up and there was no turning back anymore.

“I did it,” I said firmly without avoiding my eyes.

“It doesn’t matter. I promise that I’ll bring you back,” he said with conviction.

I just shook my head slowly from side to side while thinking that there was no use in harboring any hope. I told myself that it was probably best for everyone for things to end this way. Just like Desmond had his future to protect, I had soone that I wanted to protect as well.

“It’s fine. This is probably for the best,” I told him with a reassuring smile.

“No, it’s not. One day I will bring you back and I won’t fail to protect you like this ti,” Desmond said before pulling into his embrace.

He held so tightly as if he couldn’t bear to let go. I quickly hugged him back because I could tell that our ti was coming to an end. Soon enough I found that I was right when the minister approached us and politely inford the prince that I needed to leave.

...

**Back to the present**

I have to admit that back then I never thought that Desmond would be so serious about keeping his promise of bringing back to the country. His plan to officially pardon my sins and revoke his father’s order of punishnt was apparently at the very top of his to-do list when he beca king. Although I’ve always thought of it as the king banishing , there wasn’t a law that forbade my entry into the country.
