If this man wasn’t born the crown prince and wasn’t next in line to the throne, I doubted that I would have let him live as long as he has.

“We will not be attending the dinner,” I declared boldly.

“Says who? You or Dahlia?” the prince asked carefreely.

My eyes narrowed when I realized that he couldn’t care less what I thought. In fact, had Diana not been married to Anthony, the prince probably would have addressed his invitation to only Diana and end up inviting only Dahlia to the palace.

“Why are you so persistent about seeing her?” I asked as I tried to suppress my frustration.

“Why can’t I see her?” he asked imdiately in return.

“Why must you see her?” I repeated my question again.

There was a mont of silence from the other end of the line as if the prince was deciding whether or not to tell a secret of his.

“I miss her...” Desmond replied softly after a pause.

“You...miss her?” I repeated his words questioningly while wondering if I had simply misheard what he said.

An uneasy feeling bursted in my chest and I ended up wincing at his words. The most disturbing thing about what Desmond had just said was the fact that it sounded so sincere to my ears.

“I don’t think you understand. You see, I’m not asking you for permission to see her. I’m asking you to escort her to ,” the prince said with an edge to his voice.

“You won’t get to see her. I also don’t think that you should forget that she is my wife now,” I replied levelly.

“I wonder if she thinks the sa way as you do,” Desmond said before laughing softly.

“That doesn’t matter. Also, don’t send her anymore gifts,” I warned.

“I just wanted to send her a book that she could read to kill ti. She’s undoubtedly very bored spending her days locked up in your mansion,” he replied.

I scoffed at the ridiculousness of our conversation. Who would have thought that there would be a day when I would be having this kind of conversion with the crown prince about Dahlia. I found out on the exact day that it happened from Bella that Dahlia had received a suspicious gift. It didn’t take much investigation to find out who was the sender. Desmond wasn’t even trying to deny it, as if he hadn’t done anything wrong.

“Sorry to disappoint you, but she hasn’t been reading it. Don’t send her anything else,” I said.

I hadn’t bothered with doing away with the book after Bella reported that Dahlia had thrown it together with the rest of the gifts that I had sent her and she had not touched it since. It seed like the gift from Desmond didn’t catch her attention and was quickly discarded along with the rest.

“Is that so? Well, it doesn’t matter...” he replied calmly.

“Stop trying to see her,” I warned him again.

“It’s up to you to stop ,” Desmond replied casually.

The line went dead before I could say anything in response. I found myself clutching my phone tightly as I prayed silently for the rumors to be untrue.

...

**Three days later - Dahlia’s point of view**

“Instead of just staring at , why don’t you help choose my outfit for this evening?” I suggested before grinning at Bella.

The day when I was supposed to have dinner with the crown prince had finally arrived. Nothing had changed at all since that dinner in the garden with Bradon. It was true that at so point I had run out of ideas of what I could possibly do to convince him to willingly let et the crown prince but it was also true that he had been avoiding . My hands were balled into tight fists as my eyes narrowed when I thought of how he had robbed of all opportunities to convince him. However, that didn’t an that I had given up on eting the prince.

“I thought you were not going out this evening,” Bella said with a slightly astonished look on her face.

“You never know what’s going to happen. So, a girl better be prepared at all tis,” I said before winking at her.

“I see...” she murmured and I could tell that she was worried about .

Bradon hadn’t been ho much and today was another day when he was out for work. I doubt that he would return in ti to be my escort to the palace which made sense given that he had no intention of doing anything like that since the beginning. Finding a way out of here was going to be close to impossible.

Evening arrived and the outlook to my imdiate future seed so bleak. Bradon had not returned ho and he had been ignoring my ssages and my calls. Apparently getting our families involved in this through using a formal invitation from the palace wasn’t enough to sway Bradon into doing what the prince wanted.

“He’s really going to ignore this and not turn up...” I muttered darkly to myself.

Bella did an amazing job in helping dress up in a semi-formal evening gown in rose gold color. Even my hair was decently styled for a special dinner event. I tried giving Bradon another call as I stepped out onto the balcony of my room. It felt windier and colder than usual and that sohow made feel like I was alone and it was just against the world. After a long while of waiting, I realized that he wasn’t going to answer my call.

“Where are you going, Diana?” Bella asked with a slight frown between her brows.

“Out. I’ll take a walk in the front garden,” I said before walking out of my room.

I felt restless and even though I didn’t have a good plan as to how I could get myself out of the mansion grounds, just getting myself out into the gardens might make feel slightly better.
