“I heard from a maid already that he’d already left for the day,” I said to save her the trouble of breaking the unfortunate news to .
“I see...” she said before clamping her mouth shut again.
After many days of this happening on repeat, I figured that it wasn’t simply just a coincidence and that could only an one thing...
“He’s completely ignoring , isn’t he?” I stated my suspicion, and it wasn’t really a question.
“Of course not. He would never do sothing like that,” Jenna replied so quickly that I wanted to laugh.
I wondered if she knew that her attempt to defend him was in vain. My hands were balled into tight fists as my body shook from anger. I knew that I was partly in the wrong for running away from Zain and turning up at Anthony’s office, but he didn’t have to avoid like I was the plague. I could imagine things being awkward between us and I didn’t want to see him either.
I heard a loud sigh and realized that I was quickly running out of options. After wondering what would feel worse between talking to my father or talking to Bradon, I automatically preferred talking to Bradon. The fact that he was avoiding didn’t leave with many choices if I wanted to find out the truth about Anthony. I prayed that nothing bad had happened to him and that there must be a good reason for why he was missing in action from his job and basically all aspects of his life. Hopefully, he didn’t elope with the love of his life just like my sister did with hers.
“Why are you calling ?” my father asked the mont that the line connected.
I imdiately regretted calling him, but it was already too late to retract my action. My mind was already made up and turning back was no longer an option.
“I went to visit Anthony the other day at his office,” I said before waiting to hear his reactions.
“And?” he replied without any care.
“Anthony wasn’t there. I t Bradon there instead...” I continued.
“Why are you telling this?” he asked without much interest.
It beca clear to that he wasn’t about to explain anything to if I didn’t ask him directly. Even then, I wasn’t sure if this selfish and calculating man would tell the truth.
“I guess I can understand why the Vulkan family didn’t allow their precious heir to marry but why is Anthony not turning up to work or any of the important events that he’s supposed to attend lately?” I asked.
“Beats ...” my father replied dryly.
“Bradon has been taking his place and performing all of his duties. Do you know about this?” I asked as my eyes narrowed suspiciously.
“Let ask you again, what is it that you want from exactly? I’m busy...” he asked impatiently.
“Where is Anthony? Did...sothing happen to him?” I asked before holding my breath to brace myself for my father’s reply.
There was a mont of silence that lasted for a few seconds before I heard my father let out a long sigh on the other side of the line. Although he hadn’t said anything in words, I got the feeling that sothing unfortunate might have happened.
Did Anthony go missing as well just like my sister?
This is crazy...
“Answer . Did sothing happen to Anthony? Where is he right now? Is he fine?” I asked as I tried to tell myself to remain calm.
“Why don’t you ask that precious husband of yours instead of asking ? Like it or not, he’s still a Vulkan. You can ask him about his family issues,” he replied coldly.
“So, sothing did happen? What is going on? Hello? Hello?” I almost yelled into the phone.
I glared at the screen of my phone after bringing it away from the side of my face before I started chewing on my lower lip in frustration. For the life of , I had no idea why everyone I knew was keeping secrets from about one thing or another. I hated being left in the dark while everyone else knew what was going on.
Sothing must have happened to Anthony.
Sothing bad...
The fact that my father had told to ask Bradon about it ant that sothing must have happened. He knew about it but didn’t want to be the one to tell .
Why?
...
I had already lost count of the number of tis that I’d given Bradon a call. Given how hard it was for to summon up the courage and the nerve to call him, I wasn’t at all impressed that he wasn’t answering any of my calls. At first, I fooled myself that he might be busy with his work acting as Anthony. It wasn’t hard for to imagine that Anthony would have many etings to attend at his office but after hours of trying on and off to reach him, I was convinced that he was simply ignoring my calls.
I an, how hard would it be for him to find ti to call back?
“Jenna...” I whined when I spotted her in the living room.
“Do you need my help with sothing, Diana?” she asked with a look of concern.
“Bradon isn’t picking up any of my calls...” I replied before pouting to show her just how upset I was feeling.
“Oh, maybe he’s just busy with work. I’m sure that if you wait a bit, he’ll call you back,” she said before smiling a little my way.
I could tell that she was just saying that to try to ease my mind and that she probably didn’t believe a word of what she had just said herself.
“You have no idea just how many tis I’ve tried calling him in the past few hours...” I continued whining as I flopped down onto the sofa.
“Oh, dear. How many tis?” she asked as her brows knitted together.
