Chapter 1988: 562: Two Faces_2
Mandel Thompson said, “It was my mom who bought them. There are four of us siblings, one for each person.”
As he spoke, Mandel Thompson continued, “I like lying on them when I sleep at night.”
Isla Astir nodded, “Didn’t expect your mother to have such a girlish heart.”
Mandel Thompson didn’t pick up on that, but instead said, “In the future, we can talk about lying on them together.”
Isla Astir grabbed a throw pillow and hurled it towards Mandel Thompson.
Mandel Thompson caught the pillow, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly, “Miss Astir, if you don’t like this bear, we can change it for another one.”
“How co you’re getting less and less serious? It’s simply disgraceful!”
Mandel Thompson continued, “Miss Astir, have you heard of the idiom ‘a degenerate scholar’?”
Isla Astir: “…” She had no reply to that.
Ding dong–
The sound of knocking spread through the air.
Mandel Thompson looked at Isla Astir, “Miss Astir, please go open the door.”
Isla Astir went to answer the door.
“Miss Astir, hello, I am the maid of this house, you can just call Nanny White. This is a fruit platter specially prepared by the lady of the house; if you need anything at all, feel free to call for anyti.”
“Thank you.” Isla Astir accepted the fruit platter.
Nanny White said with a smile, “It’s what I should do; please, don’t be polite.”
After closing the door, Mandel Thompson further inquired, “Who was it?”
“It was Nanny White; she ca to deliver a fruit platter.” Having said that, Isla Astir picked up a cherry and tasted it.
The cherries had been air freighted from abroad just that morning, perfectly ripe and deliciously sweet.
“This sea coconut is also quite good.”
Mandel Thompson turned his head to look at Isla Astir, then asked, “What’s your first impression of my family, Miss Astir?”
“Very good.”
That was the honest truth.
She had thought that Mandel Thompson’s parents must have had so reservations about her, after all, her family was far from his in terms of wealth and status.
Putting other things aside.
The Thompson parents were intellectuals, graduated from prestigious universities, whereas her own parents were just ordinary folks—very ordinary; they hadn’t even finished elentary school, let alone college.
The gap between them was too vast.
But not only had the Thompson parents shown no disapproval, they had actually been so warm towards her.
Isla Astir then said, “Uncle and Auntie are much kinder than I had imagined.”
As she said this, it seed that Isla Astir rembered sothing, and continued, “Perhaps ‘kind’ is not quite the right word; anyway, they are very friendly, and I really like them.”
‘Kind’ is more often used to describe the elderly, and the Thompson parents weren’t that old.
After a while, Mandel Thompson took Isla Astir downstairs.
Mrs. Sumr had not left yet.
As Mandel Thompson held Isla Astir’s hand, approaching Mrs. Sumr, he took the initiative to introduce, “Aunt Sumr, hello, this is my girlfriend, Isla Astir. Isla, this is our long-ti neighbor, a good friend of my mother’s, Aunt Sumr.”
Isla Astir greeted her politely, “Hello, Aunt Sumr.”
Mrs. Sumr examined Isla Astir closely.
It seems Isla Astir is a bit taller than Jean Beckman. The young lady has an innocent and pure appearance, yet exudes a rare and gentle scholarly air.
Her features are refined, her lips red and teeth white.
She and Jean Beckman represent two completely different styles of beauty.
Mrs. Sumr had maintained so hopes for Mandel Thompson, but the mont she saw Isla Astir, all those hopes shattered.
It was quite clear.
Apart from her family background, this girl was superior to Jean Beckman in every aspect.
Nothing is more disastrous than a lack of self-awareness.
Mrs. Sumr concealed the expression in her eyes well, smiling at Isla Astir, “Miss Astir is really pretty; no wonder Mandel’s mother likes you so much.”
“Thank you, Aunt Sumr.”
“Isla, co over here.” Mary Perryne called to Isla Astir.
Isla Astir walked over to Mary Perryne with a smile.
Mary Perryne stood up, pinned a brooch onto Isla Astir’s chest, then nodded and said, “This brooch suits you well; consider it a welco gift from auntie.”
“Thank you, auntie.” Isla Astir, with her head bowed, couldn’t quite see the material of the brooch clearly. At that mont, she naively thought that Mary Perryne’s gift was simply a simple accessory.
However, Mrs. Sumr saw it very clearly.
She had seen this brooch at an international jewelry show abroad before. It was set with real gold and silver, and studded with diamonds of collectible quality.
Consisting of black, white, and blue diamonds.
The largest diamond weighed over fifteen carats, the smallest also around three carats.
Who would give such an expensive gift the first ti they et?
It seems Mary Perryne really liked that brooch!
