*Leo*

I heard the commotion before I saw it.

My heart raced as n started to yell and run past the room I was in, barking orders to one another. I could only make out so of the words but I gathered just enough to piece together that it had to be my n.

I struggled feebly against the thick binds around my wrists, wincing slightly when the tal further pressed into my raw skin.

Things were about to get ugly. I needed to get out of here and fast.

I lifted my head and watched as n continued to rush past my room. I felt desperation well up inside of as I looked at my surroundings. If I tilted too far, I would fall on my side and be even more immobile. The panic threatening to burst from was starting to beco difficult to press down.

I breathed in through my nose, long and deep, willing myself to once again think about Bianca and the precious baby she was carrying inside of her that was half .

I gripped the locket in my palm, my eyes widening when I rembered the cryptic way the guard was behaving.

Why would he have given this locket? It wouldn’t have been out of pity.

I tried to recall the expression on his face but probably due to a combination of my injuries, fatigue, hunger and thirst, I wasn’t thinking the most clearly.

I must have missed sothing.

I fiddled with the locket in my hand, running my fingers over the smooth tal. A thought crossed and I was able to wedge my fingers into the little slit to pop the tiny necklace open.

I couldn’t see what I was doing but I could imdiately tell what was inside of the locket. I imdiately recognized the feel of the smooth but sharp blade.

He wasn’t a traitor after all. He had been trying to help .

I grinned. This was exactly what I needed.

My body felt heavy and I was extrely weak from the lack of nourishnt. I had to struggle to get it out and carefully slipped it into the lock of the cuffs. I tried in vain to twist it but it was difficult to do it at this angle. I looked around wildly for a solution, once again forcing myself to calm down so that I could think clearly.

I shifted my chair back toward the wall. I only had one shot at this. If I missed, I would likely fall and be completely stuck.

I twisted my wrists so that they were facing the wall. I squeezed my eyes shut and jumped up, pushing my feet against the ground so I could get montum.

Pain shot through my arms at the impact but I forgot about it imdiately when the cuffs clicked open and fell to the floor.

A new wave of fatigue fell over and I was sohow able to pry the blade out of the cuffs so that I could slice the rope binding my ankles. I had been tied up for so long that my legs were completely numb when I stood. I gritted my teeth and ignored the pain that was flying through my limbs.

I didn’t have much hope that the door would be unlocked and my eyebrows flew up when I simply pushed it open. I had no ti to question it and sprinted out, ignoring the way my legs tensed up under the sudden pressure.

I looked around, trying to make sense of my surroundings. It was easy to just follow the sound of the chaos going in one direction. A guard turned the corner, his dark eyes widening upon seeing .

I willed my body to move forward to punch the guy but it wouldn’t obey. My muscles felt utterly useless. It might take so ti for to get enough strength to do much other than run at a moderate pace.

I tried to grab the guy before he could radio the other mbers to warn them of my escape. As soon as he had his hand up to his headset, a shot rang out and he fell to the hard floor, revealing the spy guard who had left the locket.

I t his gaze and I wondered if he could read the way I was putting the pieces of his actions together. He locked eyes with and nodded once, confirming everything with that one jerky movent.

I had been angry all this ti, vowing to puml this guy whenever I escaped but he had been helping the whole ti, waiting for a chance to help escape.

He was going to get a hell of a raise after this.

We could hear footsteps and booming voices coming toward us. The spy was suddenly alert and gestured to to follow him. I had no choice in the matter and I more than trusted him now after he helped escape.

He led down the hallway and we took a sharp turn down a dimly-lit corridor. It had to be so kind of secret passage.

We didn’t speak as we hurried along. My muscles were starting to work again. Every step I took was painful but it also seed to reignite my body. I needed to be moving around to get the montum back. I was already starting to feel like myself despite the fact that I was extrely injured.

It was more than likely the adrenaline that was allowing to keep going. If I was completely calm, I likely would be a ss on the floor.

“Not much further,” the spy called to , glancing back over his shoulder. He gestured ahead of us. “It’s just on the other end of this hallway. There’s a passageway that we can escape through.”

I nodded but then smirked. “You really ought to consider acting,” I told him with a gruff laugh, my voice still scratchy from lack of water. “You really had fooled. I was going to put a bullet through you before I realized what you had been doing.”

The guy grinned crookedly. “I had a feeling that I had you more fooled than I ant to,” he said. “Which I figured was actually a good thing. It made it much easier to fool the Angel mbers if you were acting all hateful toward .”

I was going to have to move this kid up in the ranks. He was wasting his talents in front of the surveillance screens back at the warehouse. We needed him where the action was. I owed him not just my life but Bianca’s and my unborn baby’s as well.

My heart ward as I thought about how close I was to seeing Bianca again. All of the torture and beatings I endured would have been worth it if I could just hold my fiancee in my arms again.

I could see the entrance leading to what had to be the secret passage. Just as the spy crossed over the threshold, a rattling boom echoed through the walls. My heart leaped into my throat at the explosion.

Ti seed to slow as the walls began to shake. I stumbled backwards just as a chunk of the ceiling fell and crashed to the floor, successfully blocking off the entryway to the passageway out and separating from the spy.

I cursed and stared at the pile of rubble for a mont, debating if I could be able to climb it and squeeze through the tiny opening between the pile and ceiling. It was far too risky. I needed to find another way out. I would most likely be crushed if I didn’t move.

I whirled around and sprinted in the other direction. I had no idea where I was going but I would just have to improvise. I cursed as another piece of ceiling fell in front of . I jumped over it and pressed on, ducking my head slightly as dust began to puff up in clouds around , further hindering my vision.

It was at that mont that I realized where I was. I was in the old abandoned steel factory building. That was evident in how old and rickety this building was. It was practically falling apart on its own without the help from explosives.

I reached down and plucked a gun out of the hands of a fallen guy. I had no ti to check if he was alive. I could tell right away he was an Angel mber.

I grunted as a piece of tile hit my bruised shoulder but I tightened my hold on my weapon and pressed on, determined to make it out of here. I couldn’t fail now, not when I was so close to seeing Bianca again.

I cursed when I ca to another hallway only to find it blocked off as well. My shoulders slumped and I looked around, knowing I was trapped.

This wasn’t good.

As if things couldn’t get any worse, I saw a figure appear through the smoke. Despite the fact that we were likely going to be buried in rubble, Andre looked almost cheerful as he grinned at .

I wasn’t afraid of him but I had to brace myself against a nearby wall to stay upright, the fatigue finally catching up with . I lifted my gun and glared at him. He must have known that I would co this way. He probably had this whole dump bugged so he could watch even as the walls crumbled around us.

“As pleasant as it is to see you,” I started sarcastically over the chaos. “If we want to make it out of here alive, we should get going.”

Andre just stared at before cocking his gun. “I would rather die right here and take you down with than risk letting you get away.”

I shouldn’t have been shocked by this. Andre’s hatred for ran deep and it showed in the way his dark eyes glinted.

I couldn’t help but goad him a little. It wasn’t looking like I was going to be able to escape after all. We were both trapped in here and I was far too weak to fight Andre off and scramble out of the rubble.

I looked down, silently apologizing to Bianca. I wondered if she had any idea how close I ca to returning to her and our baby.

Andre was directly in front of now. I refused to lower my gun or fall down, despite the fact that it felt like a ton of bricks was pushing down. “I had the perfect plan to run you all out of LA. Your little girlfriend completely ruined them!” He was practically shaking with rage now.

That familiar pride when I thought about Bianca blood in my chest. I smirked at him. “Actually, she’s my future wife.”

Andre just narrowed his eyes and lifted his gun even higher, fingering the trigger and preparing to shoot.

I shut my eyes in acceptance.
